Hi Rob, I have the same mic setup as you, i find my floor tom buzz out real bad to the point of feed back are the Beyers super senstive or am doing somthing wrong. help Thanks from nz
@christhunda Hey man. Well I can't promise this will solve your issue, but I sometimes have a problem with FT hum myself. Normally it's solved by a couple carefully placed MoonGels, usually closer towards the center of the head. Check the position of the mic as well. I swivel mine all the way out. The closer it is to the rim, the more 'rim' you're gonna pick up. As far as level, while setting it I give it a few hits at full volume until it clips, then back it off. I do that with all of em.
@Jakelikesxbox Dude. Your floor tom will sound killer doin' this. Big, beautiful low end. Especially with a good 2 ply skin on it. Do the top and the bottom, then choose a tension rod on the bottom skin for adjusting/fine tuning the pitch where you want it. Or you can just leave it where it is n'love it looooow. :)
@Theayto Hey Bro. First of all...THANKS! :) I don't really have any tricks for bass drums other than to start with a killer head, like an Evans Emad, Remo Powerstroke Pro or an Aquarian SuperKick I. Loose batter, just a turn or two past finger tight and a slightly tighter resonant (front) head and try to use as little muffling as possible. For sound, I try to go for a good balance of 'big' & tight. Im also a huge fan of the KickPort.
to maintain even pressure the whole time, would you recommend using like a small 10 lb. weight or something that can rest securely in the center of the head? Just so you're truly applying even pressure the whole time. What are your thoughts?
@ChrisBakerDrummer Absolutely, man. Thanks for bringing that up. That would be a great trick for tuning at home or in the studio. It's something that I thought of demonstrating in the video as well but I wanted to keep it short n'sweet. But, yea. You can use a 5 or a 10lb weight and do the same thing. My wife has a couple of those round sand filled weights and they work great for this. The other benefit, of course, is that it'll stretch the head out a bit, too. And it's probably even faster!
Thank you so much for FINALLY debunking all this perfect pitch, harmonies, etc. it takes so much away from the kids actually practicing. just tune till it sounds good kids!
Good point, Rob!! Ironically I've found a very easy method for tunig drums, just when I was messing around with my Sequencer, which is quiet similar to your method.

I did it with my 12" and it worked amazing. Is the floor tom the same deal?
