I can honestly say that The Kinks have greatly enriched my time on this earth. They made my life so much better than it would have been without them :)
I am definately sure the studio version is a billion times better than this piece of shlock!God save the original version with ray dave pete and mick and no fucking horn sectionnJEEEsh!!
Maybe I don't know what the *uck I'm talking about because I'm an American but it strikes me odd that twats like Jagger and hacks like McCartney get knighted and R.D.R. hasn't..............he'd probably refuse but still who exemplifies Britain better? Who didn't run to France as tax dodge and stayed on the Island through strife, energy cuts etc?
Absolutely love them. To me, their goldylock's porridge. Not too cold like the Beatles or too hot like the Stones. My favorites. MUCH love to Ray Davies and Co.
I can't say I'm a fan of Andy Samberg... but I must admit that he's had (and continues to have) his moments. And when you/I look at Ray's face... c'mon... [I mean,] are you gonna seriouly try and tell me that Samberg IS NOT a dead-ringer for Ray? I mean, wouldn't it be perfect, spot-on casting for a bio-flick? And a Kinks bio-pic would - at least on the surface - seem like a hell of a lot more interesting proposition than the upcoming Runaways movie.

I am Italian, and I say that Village green... is one of the mya favourite song if ever, also I can't understand completely the lyrics... it's an outstandig piece of pop music,perhaps Waterloo sunsete is better...
The Kinks are one of the best bands of all time, I saw them in the early 60's in our local dance hall, they were brilliant.

You may have gotten the studio cut on this, but this live version is much better.

The genius of this song (and the album overall) is the way it blurs the line between satire and sincerity...

Criminally overlooked at the time (like the Byrds 68 album with Gram Parsons) but now appreciated..and about time too!

@farnsboro
And this sounds every bit as good as the original album recording.
It's not a little different in tempo and texture-what with the horns here- but it's every bit as affecting as you say.
