Because of TSA screenings, wouldn't they make you TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF THE COAT POCKETS????? Don't they use X RAY SCREENINGS?? If anything looks suspecious, you'r valuable time will be wasted.
Great advice! I've been on a foreign exchange for 10 months now and I'm going home soon, and I have WAY to much stuff to take with me! I'll try this and see if it works. Thanks! =)
I did this once, you don't have to give them your suitcase sometimes when you check in the rolling luggage, so I went to the bathroom, took out the heavy stuff and put it in my carry on, checked in the bag, then went back to the bathroom and put it back in...they aren't going to weigh you a second time!
Some nice tips. Next time you're on the continent, check out the waterproof trousers at Decathlon. They have very deep pockets and can quickly and easily be placed on top of another pair of trousers.
Ever had to do this in a really hot country? Doing it in Barcelona in July is really not pleasant!
Most airports don't check luggage size at security.
I'm wondering how long it will be before the airlines figure out a way of restricting this.
Yeah, be nice. That's a great advice :-)! I was in Paris last year, only traveling with hand luggage. And my briefcase was way too large (and probably too heavy as well). At security there was a guy who asked us to put the briefcase into a container, and I had to squeeze it into it. I laughed a little, and so did the guy who work at the airport. I thought he would say that I had to check it in but he was nice and said that it was ok. I was really lucky! But I'll never take the risk again!
i had a small eyeglass repair kit in my coat pocket last time i flew and they confiscated it,i doubt i would try what you do.ha,wires batteries, small electrical devices.unreal/
Some innovative stuff. :D Of course the ideal situation is that you just don't have much stuff with you. Quite easy in warm climates, but becomes impossible for example in Finland in winter with all the clothes etc.
@Keeko78 Not quite easy if you travel with your entire house like I do! Most people who travel for a few months have a base to come back to where all their stuff is waiting for them :P
I don't think just clothing is an issue. You might need to take lots of books with you for example.
But yeah, the ideal situation is being a minimalist!!
@irishpolyglot I just managed to negotiate a sabbatical leave with a possibility to do remote work. :P So I will definately have these issues sooner or later, since I am going to travel... somewhere... :D Not sure yet about how to handle the "stuff" I own.
@Irishpolyglot Hi there, we have an interesting offer for you - how would you like trying our stuff? Contact us at info@jaktogo.com.

I bet if you tried this in the US you'd get flagged for additional screening.

when you go through the security part, don't they scan your sweater for any silverware or anything? how do you get the electronics past them?

@timtranslates about to do exactly this. Barcelona --> Ibiza and back. Might get chilly. I'm thinking it won't. Wish me luck.
