many advantages : with the s950 you got the keygroups, the possibility to cut off all sounds with the mono function. the low pass extremely powerfull and the sound isn't the same.
s950 is 12bit, mpc60 is 16bit who stock in 12.
but now i only use an mpc3000LE and a yamaha motif xs6.
one month ago i bought a tascam 2488 neo and i'm pretty satisfied with it. better sound than a pc sound card.
to me, there's abs no differences between the workflow of the 60 and the 3000. but the 3000l got more sampling time pretty useful for melodies editin'. and filter of the 3000 is dope for ,the drums.
hi, the mpc60 is a 16bit machine who's stocking in 12bit, and the s950 is a "real" 12bit sampleur.
i use the mpc fot the beats cause the pad assignement is better for the workflow and i use s950 for samples of melodies with the greats mono keygroups .
i connect the midi out of my mpc to the midi in of the s950. PEACE

man, that shit sounds decent, but I still can't get over how a lot of you hip hop dudes rip off sounds to produce hooks that were already used in the first place. If you use someone's music/sounds they should get 90% of the profits, ESPECIALLY if your only putting on vocals and some shitty base synth... Also, if you guys were really that good of musicians, you would learn how to play instruments instead and come up with something FUCKING ORIGINAL you FUCKING WHORES OF MUSIC
the rip you're talking about is the foundation of hiphop.take a part of sound and create another music with it.for me it's a kind of tribute and far more honest than other type of music who pretend to "play instruments ans create" copying all the notes ans chords of another group, like in the rock'n roll.they are the fucking whore of music cause they just copy each others.
i also like to compose orchestal or ballad joint but i love the sample philosophy of the hiphop.
yeah, I may have gone off the deep end a bit... I have mixed feelings about it. I like how you used the word tribute. It just drives me crazy when I see this kids spewing a tiny loop from another well known record, then put some bass beats over it then call themselves 'geniuses' afterwards. This shit is not rocket science. I just think the attitude and direction of hiphop needs to go beyond where it has been for the past 10 yrs...
If a famous producer uses a sample, the price of the record he/she uses doubles + the creator (band/singer) gets their royalties.

Under edit sample, go to pg. 2 Change it from "monitor" to the name of your program. Then you can trigger from the pads while in edit sample mode, and chop while the sequence in playing.
I find it easier to put my sp below the s950 and have my s950 near at eye level for chopping.
i think i commented this before but i had to again... this shit is dope as fuck! fuck all these haters.. they don't remember late 90's east coast shit... all they know is crunk. so they're not too familiar with that style sequence of drums.. but i know! and i feel you! that's real hip hop right there. keep doing your thing.
for all those teen's i have to say : listen krs-one : hip is the knowledge, hop is the movement. and stop this murder of the hiphop culture named crunk..;hiphop is not on the clubs...
meh, not a very creative way of flipping the sample, and ya drums had no rythymic pattern to em' whatsoever kid..., shit wasn't mixed right either...I think you should revamp this ASAP...
lol, don't get offended, I wasn't trying to diss your dog smellin ass, It's just constrcutive criticism, I ain't realize how sensitive you was....lol...

Wow, you really know how to use the S-950. I've wondered how people really get it going like the way you got it. Did you somehow chop up the sample in the S950? I've been trying to figure that out for the longest time. I need to go fire up the beast.
I've been using my S-612 for my 12 bit samples, its almost analog sounding especially running it through the Akai AX-60 analog synth.
it's not because they are both akai that it means they are the same....the s950 is a basic sampler 12bit with a huge sound dirty and a crazy low pass filter, the mpc60 is like his name say : MIDI Production Center : a sampler very clear, much more than the s950 and a kick ass sequencer many more creative than the fu...ing computer.
well the mpc60 has the same sampling engine, the s950 is just a sequencerless rack version of the MPC60 (as far as I know, though I don't have either. I want to get the s950 sometime, it looks awesome. :D )
it's what i though too but now i'v got both, i can say, and why.
the s950 is a 12bit sampler and you can choose beetween 3000 and 19200 hz of bandwidth.
the sampling engine of the mpc60 is a 12bit but you can't change the frequency of sampling. it's an high 40khz. that's why mpc60 as no sound colour like s950
really good!

So why do you have the s950 AND the MPC-60 when they are basically the same thing? :D

it's not because they are both akai that it means they are the same....the s950 is a basic sampler 12bit with a huge sound dirty and a crazy low pass filter, the mpc60 is like his name say : MIDI Production Center : a sampler very clear, much more than the s950 and a kick ass sequencer many more creative than the fu...ing computer.

well the mpc60 has the same sampling engine, the s950 is just a sequencerless rack version of the MPC60 (as far as I know, though I don't have either. I want to get the s950 sometime, it looks awesome. :D )

absolutly wrong, they aren't similar.
it's what i though too but now i'v got both, i can say, and why.
the s950 is a 12bit sampler and you can choose beetween 3000 and 19200 hz of bandwidth.
the sampling engine of the mpc60 is a 12bit but you can't change the frequency of sampling. it's an high 40khz. that's why mpc60 as no sound colour like s950
