  • this is f ing awesome.. congratz, u guys made a great occupation. Im an anarchist communist and love this shit. Dont listen to the haters u guys are taking the fore in the radical action that is needed not just to fix the schools but to challenge all these structures of power and attempt at creating a better life. Great job. hope to see these protest everyewar. I have faith that we can still help create a better world

  • the american uprising!

  • Nice job! It is a shame that more American youth are not politically aware.

  • You guys should try wearing different clothes. Your clothes say that you are wealthy. Try wearing hand-made robes. I think it will elicit more sympathy.

  • Does participating in a protest like this on, having professional photographs of you in windows, and being arrested get you a better job after college? I am thinking such an act is attention seeking and is like a resume for political activism. I also love the Che Guevara and muslim looks; how retro. Come on guys, your high priced clothes don't give me the impression you are poor students. Try robes and ashes.

  • u should see how we did it in P.R

  • Hi, occupy everything!!!!! u should know that in Puerto Rico (thats righ, the caribbean island wich is an american territoy or colony) the students and workers are having a similar fight for the right to having acces to education!!! if u want to know more about our strougle let me know. We got to occupy the Universidad de Puerto Rico for 60 days!!! And we got won all our demands!!! But we continue to fight the intentions of the administration to end the acces to an education.

  • @reinadelosaces amazing, congradulations to the puerto rican people. They dont ever show that news here, not much. Fuck yankee imperialism

  • selfish children want an education but dont want to pay for it boo hoo

if you don't like it go to the library, they have books you can read for free.

  • Good for them! Occupy everything!

  • Fantastic video!

  • What happens when people that don't want to pay or cant afford for their education refuse and go and occupy their classroms?

  • excellent civil disobeying!

  • What exactly gives you the right to commit the crimes of burglary, felony vandalism, and criminal trespass? Do you think that because your outraged that your tuition has gone up that entitles you to commit crimes? O thats right you don't. These fools should be expelled.

  • @mikesternberg you are quick to judge these student's crimes but you fail to see the crimes committed by the state. it is called critical thinking, you should try it.

  • @jenndawg000 I already did my critical thinking. Your justifying crime based on outrage against government policy. Let me help you out since I already have my degree with a hint: "Two wrongs don't make a right. "Now can you see the logical fallacy in your making excuses for the clearly criminal behaviors of others.

  • @jenndawg000 You do realize those abortion clinic murderers use the same "justification" and "nullification" (corrections terms look them up) techniques as you do to excuse their crimes. I grade you a F for bad logic.

  • @mikesternberg what exactly gives the boston colonists in 1773 to commit the crimes of vandalism, littering, theft, trespassing, etc? (Boston Tea Party) Do you study american history at all? according to your assessment over this protest, it seems like you would fit in very well in china or some country with a dictator.

  • @jenndawg000 simple they were fighting against tyranny. Your whining about a tuition raise that is occurring because the state is broke. There is no comparison. Those crybaby protesters can work two jobs to pay for college like I did. BTW you get free tuition for enlisting in the US Army if your that broke then I suggest the GI Bill. Nobody owes you an education go out and earn it like I with my military service.

  • Fuck riot police.

  • Embarrasing... this could really lower UCs reputation. The students protesting against the liberal ideology ("privatization") while the govurnment is going closer the fascism. (The opposite to liberal (or "privatization")).

In other words the student are verry uneducated in politics or economics.

Btw is nothing free. The meaning of "free education" is that someone else pays for you because you won't take responsibility for your own actions. I know this since I live in Sweden, where it is "free"

  • Normally people from Sweden are quite educated. You are not. Fascism is a tool of the capital (Henkel, Theissen, Krupp, Farben IG paid the NSDAP) opposing labour unions, democracy and social rights. Compare poverty in Sweden and the US and think about it, when demanding "education only for the rich"

    Long live Olaf Palme!

  • @nonameposter

Haha yeah right. And I guess you are from Sweden just like me, and that you are as normal-educated as many swedish people and believe that people with low income in the US can't afford an education. US have a higher ratio high educated people than sweden and anyone can study for example engineering if they want to in state universities. And you can't differ just like many swedes the difference in state capitalism, interventionism or Laissez fare. (Fascism = state capitalism)

  • @nonameposter

Gone? I wanted to inform that Olof Palme is one of the people responsible for the increased fascism of swedish politics during the 70s and 80s. He is also the one with most responsible for the swedish economy going from the world third richest to bancruptcy. He took money from profit making organizations and put it into to huge non-profit organization and motivated a massive laziness. Of course this result in an hugh debt and abnormoly high taxes that our generation has to pay off

  • @nonameposter i'd like to see u get into berkeley

  • @andrefantastisk

An education at the University of California isn't free and never has been. They were protesting a 32% increase in tuition.

I assume an education was unavailable to you in Sweden, judging by your ridiculous statements.

  • @JoeThePhilosopher

If somethings feels "free" so is probably someone else paying for you. I never said that the university is "free". And what tution fees they wan't to take is all up to them. But what I said to the other swede above is that there exist university educations for tution fees a lot smaller than what we see in many american movies. But I guess I'm not having this discussion with the brightest guy on the planet either.

  • @JoeThePhilosopher Actually it used to be free. Why don't you actually do some reading. Also, a $20-$350 fee to go to college is still virtually free.

  • damn this video was like a movie. GREAT JOB!

  • As serious as the issue is, I definitly give props to the producer of the video!

GJ! KEEP FIGHTING ! JOIN THE CAUSE!

  • This is not a Birth, but a Re-Birth of a Powerful Movement.

Several Occupations happened on Alcatraz By Native Americans, in March of 1964 and November of 1969 (Occupied until June of 1970).

We need lots more people and massive long-term occupations to start seeing an affect.

    I have hope!

    keep up the great work!

  • ron paul 2012 freedom vote

  • they are cowards and spoiled rotten children. They gained nothing. They did nothing. They want attention and an excuse not to study.

  • no it's because i've been there u idiot.and i have friends there so i know the situation

  • I've been there twice and I once had a girlfriend that immigrated from there.

  • Decades of liberal policies finally take their toll. This is the inevitable result of an entitlement society. The red diaper doper babies are finally reaping the whirlwind.

  • I applaud the both sides... protesters did their jobs and police did theirs. What it's all about. that's the problem with this country people see everything in black and white, you either on one side or the other. Just stand up for what you believe left, right or center. goodbye.

  • Birth of a new movement....bowel movement!

  • ROFL

  • buzzz what a dumbass lol

  • Don't they realize that California is in a horrible budget crisis? They're like bankrupt.

  • They don't care. Have you ever heard of the Cloward/ Pivon stradegy?

  • Solidarity my ass. The solidarity movement crushed your communist murdering utopia in the USSR. Go home you communist pig.

  • man you must be some really sorry ass fascist piece of shit.aren't you?mabe if it weren't for fucks like you,the world would be a much more pleasant place to be.shark, man eating fuck

  • Sorry to disappoint you but I am not a socialist but an AMERICAN. :)

  • and????read "THE DECLARATION OF PHILADELPHIA".then we'll talk about America from a different point of view

  • The media showed none of this. Not even FOX. Obama doesn't want good Americans to get any ideas about protesting his agenda.

  • (on decent)

  • Democracy was founded decent

  • Come on, boys and girls, at least *try* and break the stereotype.

  • How long has this protest been going.

  • I myself was active in the protest, but at CCSF (City College of San Francisco) on the 18th where it was very peaceful (not silent!). I didn't realize how intense the UC protest was.

There are so many things I could say. There is a lot that I think was handled poorly, and vise versa. I agree with many statements here as well as disagree. We have to think in new ways. As such, I am on an assembly against budget cuts. Keep going fellows, the future depends on us!

  • Get a job you lazy bum instead of mooching off the hard working taxpayers of California.

  • o_O...

Does that anything to do with what was said?

    I am indeed befuzzled.

  • Second, the UC's are PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS OF EDUCATION. Hence, by definition, education needs to be affordable. The UC's are NOT PRIVATE! So everyone can stop hating on students/faculty/ and other folks who believe that education should be affordable. No one needs to drop of because they can't afford Berkeley-the system should and NEEDS to change so people DONT drop out. Stop being to scared to challenge the system. It's been done before, it can be done again.

  • Get a job you lazy mooching bum so you can pay taxes and support the public universities. You and others are such cry babies.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't entirely agree with the occupation because I think that there are other forms of approaching this educational crisis. Regardless, it is undeniable that the regents needs to be DEMOCRATIZED! Life is not fair. Duh. But we live in a "democratic" country, so let's fight for that as much as possible!

  • i love it when people say silly things like this. "you know those protestors have bank accounts and they say banks are bad." this really has nothing to do with the issues being brought up. get a life, you half-wit.

  • My favorite part of this is when the girl in her hip anti-establishment gear holds up her IPHONE to relay the message of school administrators.

  • i think that it's videos that i've contributed to. i don't know how to edit them.

    brandon

  • Has anyone else post a video response to this movie that has not appeared?

Also: It seems curious that out of 20 Related Video's listed on the right side of this page, there are no related video's. As of Dec 3, 2009 Youtube's Related

Videos box lists no other videos related to the UC strike or Wheeler Hall. Does anybody have any idea how this could happen?

  • Correction: There is one related video on the side box. But why is there only one related video when hundreds of video's about the Wheeler Hall action on nov 20th have been posted on YouTube.

  • Forget those animals that spend there days in front of the computer saying stupid things and trying to desmotivate the real revolutionary ones!

WE are all over the world to change what's wrong!

    Solidarity from Portugal!!

  • Astronauts on the International Space Station support the student strike. Keyword search: UC campus + BetterBadNews

  • if rich american's cant afford it, how would third world children?

    your stupidity exceeds national levels.

  • why leave a school that they love their protesting because they may have to leave because of money

  • Or they could just take it over and open it up to everyone.

  • unless*.

  • SOLIDARITY FROM UOB

  • Cry baby.

  • ashole

  • solidarity from UCD!

  • Cry baby, Cry Baby.

  • sorry.i ment asssssssssssssssshole

  • I am an asshole. I don't deny that. But it takes assholes to tell it like it is. Stop crying like a damn baby and go get a job instead of sucking off the system and whining.

  • i'm an embryologist performing ivf and i've worked my ass off to get to where i am.also 4\6 of population has a job u idiot.only bloodsucking canibals take away their dignity and their quality of life

  • get a job?is that all you have to say?it is because of assholes like you that the planet is heading towards environmental distruction, policies you support.and 4/6 of the population living in poverty you piece of shit.now go to work like a good robot and leave people alone writting what they want

  • 4/6 of the population living in poverty and all you do is cry and whine. If you got a job you would learn about those in the work place that suck off the system. They try to distract and take away the attention from themselves and their laziness by pointing their fingers at others and whining instead of rolling up their sleeves and working. It causes more problems and less gets done. LOL It has nothing to do with the policies cause every organization has problems. Get a job!

  • first of all u don't know me..

  • the system as u refer to it is unfair and

  • the system as u refer to it is unfair

  • Life is NOT FAIR. But some economic systems are A LOT more unfair than others. Why the hell do you think the Soviet Union fell. It was the workers who fought and died who finely got the right to organize that brought down the corrupt system of socialism there.

  • ,unequal and most of all unethical

  • Give me a break. You are just plain ignorant and stupid if you believe socialism is more fair. Socialism hurts the poor and middle class a hell of a lot more. Not only do you lose more by having to work a lot more but you also lose more of your rights. Why the hell do you think they organized these kids to protest? to help the working class? It is them that are on our backs.

  • it's not worth it if it can't provide a fair quality of life at least for people who try hard.and it certainly doesn't do so

  • So your plan is to take from the last few who are working? To take from those who have at least the hope of escaping by giving them some bull crap illusion of a social utopia. That was tried and it failed because the thieves of the working man were exposed and defeated. It didn't work. I'm sorry to break the news to you. It was proven and found to be lacking.

  • people with better economic background have a far better start AND finish regardless of their own quality

  • Won't argue that point. There are some real dumbasses who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Timothy geithner is one. Obama was another. Neither worked an honest days work in the lives and got where they are because of their parents political connections but I'm not gonna screw myself or my kids future because of that. I'm not gonna take away or let my kid's rights be taken away because of that.

  • some people without the same background might also make it but those are the exception to the rule.

  • and i'm talking about hard working people, not lazzzzy ones

  • so spare me with your"get a job"stereotypes

  • don't u see that social unequality and dogmas like shut up and work 15 hours a day ruin social peace?

  • It can also motivate. It sure motivated me in getting an education and bettering myself. And I am not talking about going to school. I am talking about getting an education.

  • this type of development leaves a huge percentage of WORTHY people outside the doors of "paradise"

  • So your solution is throw everyone out. Your solution doesn't work because those who have fought and worked their whole lives to better themselves will just quit. When the productive members of your society quit, you will be f-cked. I mean really f-cked and a barrel of a gun won't work.

  • ofcourse people are going to protest.maybe not allways in aproved ways.

  • but u could clear your ears and hear the manifestation of a savadge market controling lives and spreading infelicity

  • instead of happines and prosperity.there is a different way, with priorities that have HUMANS in the centre of attention

  • Banking was concieved in inquity and born in sin. The bankers own the world. Take it away from them but leave them the power to create deposits and with a flick of a pen, they will create enough deposits to buy it back again. But take that away from them and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear as they ought to disappear, for the world would be a happier place.

  • But if you wish to live in slavery and pay the cost of your own slavery then let them continue to create deposits -- Sir Joseph Stamp (England's Central Banker).......Marx wasn't stupid when he called for a strong central bank in the Communist Manifesto......The same assholes that did this to us are the same assholes behind these student protests.

  • first of all i'm NOT a ussr supporter

  • it was a fascist failure

  • and there u go again with the stereotypes.MOST of people are working very, very hard man

  • I don't dent that. It pisses me off though that the same people mobilizing these students are some of the very same ones responsible for a lot of this crap.

  • so?most of these kids have pure hearts and instead of just partying at least they are fighting for something

  • far better than just trying to fuck people over to make money...

  • a lot of them will grow up to find their way, mature and hopefully become educated openminded people

  • and not carnivors seeking for a carier

  • and hopefully they will still be fighting for something worthwille

  • in a more clever and efficient way

  • i know they will still be a minority but with 90%of people out there being zombies, they are a ray of light

  • but not receiving what is deserved for the hard work they put

  • I agree 100%.

  • not only a little proportion is hardworking u know

  • and no.i'm not satisfied with fate declerations:life is not fair

  • what's that suppoised to mean.with attitude like that we would still be living in the dark ages

  • things change u know.also"my solution"already DOES provide a FAR more balanced and fair society

  • look at every factor that counts for quality life in sweden and u'll know what i mean(even though they have shitty climate)

  • I wasn't too impressed.

  • yes i know that he's a pupet too

  • at least he isn't a religious freak..to start with.and there are some other minor but still important differences

  • i think...

  • since u've been there u must have noticed that their system doesn't produce 65 mill.people without healthcare...

  • among many other vast differences

  • long conversation that one though

  • i would promote Bush for unworthy rich asshole instead of Obama

  • They were both cut from the same cloth. Just different corners.

  • banks should exist for financing development, not producing fake economy, destroying the real one

  • I agree :)

  • goverments should restrict them to that instead of sucking their dicks.and they do have the power but not the will

  • restrict them? they are bought by them including your beloved Obama.

  • and i'm talking about a change in values hierarchy.the one we have now is distroying the plannet hence it can not be continued...

  • The monetary system is based on a fiat money system that is expanded by fractional reserve banking. Money is loaned into existance and must forever keep expanding to keep a collapse from happening. It promotes consumerism. Why do they continue? Cause it enslaves people to others. Obama is a puppet of this system as much as Bush was.

  • and human dignity instead of profit

  • and there are countries that actually apply that kind of policies

  • that provide a far better life for their citizens(Sweden)

  • I guess that is why people are flocking there by the millions every year. That is why they have to put up fences I guess? To keep all the illegal immigrants out. ROFL Somebody REALLY FED YOU a load of crap! LOL

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that people aren't flocking there by the millions. Why do you suppose? O well, because the boob tube said it, or a professor said it, or a book said it, you believe it. LOL

  • and yes they do have an immigrand problem.and also i told u THEY HAVE A REALLY SHITTY CLIMATE

  • ps:not that i think that u care, but u gained my sympathy for admiting u were an asshole..

  • I am an asshole. I was made an asshole by the people who organized these students. They screwed me royally when I was the same age as these students. I didn't know what I know now. I learned the hard way. I was educated. The ones who organized these students are the same exact people. They made me what I am today and I REMEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Solidarity from UCLA!

  • Berkeley has a lot of idiots...schools won't help. Kick their asses.

  • Solidarity from Turkey!

  • 43 students and their 400-800 freeloader supporters of course do not REPRESENT 55 MILLION TAXPAYING (working for a living) RESIDENTS of CALIFORNIA.

The cost of things are rising everywhere, why should education be free... .NOTHING IS FREE, we even have to exert effort to breathe and piss....

SORRY, TOTALLY MISGUIDED PROTEST will only lead to these "students" receiving some form of punishment. Of course, they are heroes "in their own minds".

  • everyone should be entitled to an education so that they have the opportunity for upward social mobility.

but the students occupying the building still did it for the wrong reasons

  • Is a Cheeta in the Savannah "entitled" to a Gazelle?

Is the Ditch Digger "required" to pay more taxes, so that some brat kid can their "entitled" education??

Why should anyone be "entitled" to upward social mobility??

Should the individual earn their "mobility"??

NOBODY IS ENTITLED TO SHIT, NOT EVEN A MOTHERFUCKING CHEETA IN THE SAVANNAH.... the gazelle is not even entitled to live!!! LIFE IS HARD!!!

  • ok calm down just a little bit :)

of course a cheetah is not entitled to its prey. it has to work hard in order to obtain its goal, the gazelle.

likewise an education is not just a diploma that is handed to students, they have to spend several years working towards it. the point is that they should be entitled to the right to do so.

the cheetah is born with ridiculous speed in order to accomplish its needs. we are born with incredible brains. use it.

  • hehheeehhehe.... pretty good drama, eh:)

I worked full time to put myself thru engineering school (undergrad and Masters).... Full-time Work and Full-time Engineering School at the same time for 8 fucking years. It was the best time of my LIFE... that's why I speak with CONVICTION.

Trust me, it is totally worth "EARNING" it.....like I said it was the "greatest time of my life"... I loved it, that is actually how I got thru the drama!

    Aloha, UC

  • was this before the cost of education had inflated to the level it is now?

many students work near full time jobs and can still not afford the cost of attendance. The point of a public school is so that is accessible to the general public (even if they have to "work" for it). At this point it is beginning to surpass its accessible nature.

  • Well, since I graduated after 1913, when Fed Reserve took over the money issue....

Look, we have been inflating money supply every year since 1913.. Every year, everything cost 3-4% more than previous.

Schools tend to hold tuition steady for awhile, and then make another jump...but, then so do wages...

Sorry, these kids are under no greater burden than kids 10,20,30 years ago....remember, wages were lower. I remember my minimum wage in H.S. was like $2.35/hr or something...

  • even after you account for inflation, today things are far far more expensive

if you think what we have to deal with today is the same as what americans had 40, 30 years ago, please refer to historical tuition rates and historical wages and see for yourself

    peace

  • ik999,

If not inflation....then you tell me "why UC raised tuition"... are they a profit seeking org? No! (they are gov)...

    California is in deep doo-doo....fiscally!

    Aloha, UC

  • they raised prices because of gov interference

the gov makes low interest loans for students, which causes the price of tuition to go wayy up.

almost all students take student loans - and if they didn't have that available, they wouldn't be able to attend college/uni. but if the gov stopped subsidizing the tuition, the price would have only stayed with inflation, and almost anyone would be able to afford it.

  • Ik999,

How do the "guareentied loans" (school doesn't issue) raise tuition??

Sorry, I don't see that "money flow"...

But, I do agree with you, that gov should not subsidize tuition....

  • normally, prices are regulated by what the buyer chooses to buy and what not to buy they make the choice by what they can afford and the seller adjusts prices to respond. but in the case of the uni if the students cant afford, (and hardly any can) they just borrow more and bear the debt. even if the students are crushed with debt they will still show up to class -thus the uni never has any reason to respond with lower prices if anything they raise them to pay for useless bells and whistles

  • Amen! And that is what pisses me off about Obama's plan. It continues the practise and ups the anty. With the government stepping in even more it will cause prices to shoot up even more. They need to get the hell out but then prices will drop and they don't want that.
