@muslit Then why listen to it? You're familiar with Carter's works, have made up your mind that you don't like the composer, yet you decide to spend your time looking up his music and actively condemning it?
i wouldn't blame anyone for not liking this music, or even hating it. but saying it "stinks" does make you sound like a spoiled brat, though. not saying you are, but that's how you come off saying things like that. there have been times when people, myself included, had to wait years just to get to hear a piece even once. now people just stumble through the music on the internet and say it "stinks". still, i do think it shows good character to occasionally listen to composers you don't fancy.
Thanks a lot ! if per chance you can find a recording of his work Réflexions ( for ensemble 2004) I heard one time in concert , it should be great ! Something in my memory still wanting to catching this echo he made as a kind of darmstadtian reflections ...merci ;-) and long life again to Elliott Carter with his unexhausted musicality...
To me, it sounds more Boulezian than Cartesian.

I didn't expect that at such an age (over 100 ) Carter is still very capable of composing interesting things.

Wow. . . over 100 years old and still creating such vibrant, wonderful music. Elliott Carter is a true American treasure.

@fcyeznikian Réflexions was written for one of Pierre Boulez’s birthdays, presumably a birthday divisible by 10. -Tassilo
