Today, 5/30/'11, on FACEBOOK, "The Los Angeles Free Press 60's Music" Page just posted some cool ads and Posters, and an interview with Elephant's Memory"! Check it out!
except for those first two albums, Lennon's work was just crap after the Beatles. Same with McCartney. This song is awful. And Yoko, good god keep that voice away from a microphone.
@welcome2myhell Oh gimme a break! What would you rather have? Yoko doing her USUAL screeching like a banshee? I personally feel that if people were introduced to THIS Yoko on this album instead of the one who screamed her head off at the Toronto concert, the public's reaction might have been a little different. I think this is a very cool album, very eccentric, and while some might not agree with it's politics, it's got personality to it.
@Timeofflux Ringo was as Irish as any of the other Beatles, 3 of his 4 great grans were either born in Ireland, or had Irish parents. All four Beatles have Irish ancestors on both their mother and fathers side. From what is now the Republic, and the North, and from both traditions, Protestant and Catholic.
@Timeofflux actually McCartneys ancestry is a bit more complex Paul McCartney is also Scottish. His Scottish ancestors originally has the surname MacIntosh and it became McCartney when they settled in Ireland. His father is English and Scottish.
@seonidh That's actually a myth promoted by a sloppy US Genealogical tree (albeit it one even his brother Mike seems to have been misled by). I'm a pro genealogist and have done extensive work. Apart from his Parternal Grandfather, Owen Mohin, an Irishman who lived in Glasgow for ten years, Macca doesn't have any Scottish links in his ancestry. His McCartneys were originally Catholics from Belfast who crossed over to Liverpool 1820's. Can 100% prove that. George and Ringo do have Scottish blood.
rumpraisin... false. Lennon was English and he still worte the song... genocide is genocide no matter where one is from. I'm sure she would have been as critical of the Japanese if they had written a song about it.
That being said... we miss you John and thank you for thinking of us Irish.
@cking597 rumpraisin John Lennon's original root name is Linnane , an IRISH name! You should know your facts before you open your raisin hole! You are stupid.
all true the good stuff below but also: chronic alcoholism rivaled only by iceland and russia, violent scruffs, an almost genetic disposition to idleness, (and the Irish themselves say this so don't come at me with racism bull shit).
in all the Irish have been very unlucky - but half their suffering comes from internal causes.
** today they are just fine as they appear to have 'grown,' up.
@caesarcerf Yoko Ono accompanies JL in the singing of this song. Seeing as she is Japanese, I wonder has the thought ever crossed her mind that the Japs have had the same relation to China as the Brits have had to Eire. Having said that, if they did ever write a song about it, it wouldn't sound like this.
Very good song " The Luck Of The Irish " by John Lennon !
Beautiful tribute to Ireland and to the Irish !
Beautiful melody in spite of their sufferings !
I've been there only once ... and this country reminds me of a nice trip in July 1978 !
I found Ireland ... so green and beautiful ... with its brightly coloured houses and steep village streets ... with its charming little roads ... and its numerous " painted " flocks of sheep ...
Grey stone walls, green meadows, peat fields, gorgeous hilly landscape ... and breathtakingly high " Cliffs of Moher " !
And Lively Music ... and delicious Irish stew ! ( no comment on beer, not " my cup of tea " )
Courageous, painstaking & cheerful people ... having gone through hard times ... so many times ... and yet, always obstinately searching ... " the pot of gold " ... among the shamrocks !
I'm from Ireland .....

i spoke too soon. now look at Ireland's bank health. But that has nothing to do with laziness - the Irish were conned by bankers like the rest of us.
thank god most of the 10% of the Irish population - Poles who'd glommed on to the Irish miracle have left. Two-faced bastards. May they never return
