@KanadianKyuubi Windows Vista is actually Windows NT 6.0, Windows 7 is Windows NT 6.1.
I´m actually surprised they have the nerve to make people pay the full price for a minor upgrade. A minor upgrade which is properly reflected in the name for the serverversions, as you point out.
Actually, Microsoft really called it 'Windows Server 7' during the early builds of R2. They didn't stick with it of course. I thought it made sense seeing as the kernels are joined. Type in "Windows Server Build 6801" in search box above and look for "taylorover9000". You will see the "Windows Server 7" branding logo on the beta build.
will this server permit me to play fsx (flight simulator x) cause it has the build number of win7 7600 ! so ! and how to get gadgets in this os ! if i can enable all functions of server 2008 r2 then great i might as well move completely to this ! As i have noticed that it lets you choose what services and other functions to
install instead of win7 giving you all and give you other install options in add remove section in control panel ! please someone rely to me because i'm confused ! help much appreciated ! thanx in advance !
is this 7 or vista based ?

@cyberjackcyberjack 2008 R2 is based off 7. Now why didn't they just call this Windows Server 7 instead, 2008 R2 sounds odd.
