@YCreek It didn't hit the dock in this video, but it is possible for the boat to contact the dock if it gets enough of a push. I often grab one of the spring lines and pull the boat in close enough to the dock to get aboard without releasing the whips, for example. The closer the boat gets to the dock, the more force the whips exert pulling it away from the dock. The whips are from Mooring Whip Sales of SC, great outfit to deal with.
No exception, the Captain/skipper is ALWAYS responsible for his own wake. Living on a river myself, and being a USCG 50 ton master, my experience is that more powerboaters than sailors fail to operate their vessels in a seamanship-like manner.
@specialk18701 No, not a no wake zone. It's a river with lots of traffic and wakes are to be expected. We get everything from 60mph bass boats to slow moving 300 ton barge tows. I don't sweat the normal wakes, it's just that when these big cruisers go by with the throttle set to 'dead plow' it gets excessive and they could easily mitigate it by either speeding up and planing or slowing down to hull speed. Big wakes damage the river bank, btw; I've lost tons (literally) of rip rap stone to them.
I'm interested in those whips. Did the sailboat ever hit the dock?

doesn't look lke a no wake zone to me in themiddle of the lake. No shore there to mess up either just a drop off
