This looks awesome. Shiren for the DS is easily one of the funnest games I've ever played.

Shiren is a very old series, and Chunsoft has been making this style of game for ages. Both their own and spinoffs for other companies.

PS: Chunsoft made the Pokemon spinoffs for Nintendo too

I always called these type of games dungeon crawlers, but I've seen the term roguelike a lot ever since I got Shiren for DS. Is dungeon crawler only used in a negative sense?

This is more like a roguelike. A dungeon crawler is more like Etrian Odyssey. The difference is pretty much in the gameplay. I can't wait to play this game. Chocobo's dungeon was good but this will be better.

Roguelikes are dungeon crawlers but they have a few things that make them distinct from a regular rpg. Roguelikes have randomly generated dungeons, with random items and enemies, permanent death and while the gameplay is turn-based it's much more action oriented than standard rpgs.
