The only singer that ever mattered ,but whenever Joe n the clash/mescs played festivals etc it never worked..The best band ever needed a smaller indoor venue..stay free mate..still got the hat
Joe strummer, a hero of mine, all i can say, the peeps in this vid didnt know what they was listening to. I'd give anything to have been in that crowd.
Can't say enough. Whenever I hear a song in my head, it's probably Joe. THere's so much to take away from him. Music, words, attitude. Joe IS the man.
saw the Clash in California, 79or 80 Give em enough rope tour, and in the middle of the first song , Joe Strummer jumps off stage with guitar , goes 5 rows into
the crowd and breaks up a fight. gets back on stage and the Clash play a killer set, and all is peaceful. Joe was the real deal. God bless him,and his family. thanks for posting
I put on the fucking playlist so I can listen while doing some work meantime but I can never stop watching Joe ... such a tragedy. No other singer can use his voice to convey emotion, to send chills down your spine, to make works of art, like Joe Strummer.
this is great because hes not trying to emulate the clash- this is closer to an authentic reggae feel- just as powerful and in no way does it seem disingenious- nothing worse than seeing old punk groups trying to act like their 20(see the sex pistols) Joe strummer's later music was not only pretty good but it had no sense of nostalgia or trying "too hard "- RIP Joe you were one of a kind!
@salvadory I agree the new sound is as valid as the old - but I disagree about old timers and love to see the greats play their old stuff. I love a good dance-up the wrong side of 50 - it's a laugh - so I can see why they do it. And there's always a bit of irony too: last week I made my fingers bleed shredding 'til late with my mate's teenage sons, but I still put the bins out for the morning. The clincher: say it was Joe palying the old stuff, with Paul, Topper, and Mick, would you say no?
this man was a template for me since 1977...thank christ I saw The Clash in 79, 80 and 81...saw Joe and The Mescaleros on most of the UK tours they did.....can't really accept that he is gone...
Joe Strummer belongs to a tiny group of truly unique musicians which probably only includes Morrissey and Page & Plant other than himself. What a legend - and I miss him all the time.
For the right amount of Money you can actually buy an exact replica of
Joe Strummer's signature black telecaster from Fender, worn and battered just like the original. They even made sure that the words "Revolution Rock" are just
where they should be. All mass produced of course. I believe they sell for
over a thousand dollars. Is there any limit to how crass and greedy corporations
@derpdederp101 i was just about to leave a comment asking why some fool would be pointing to a rhcp t-shirt.....when theres a real legend on stage......
strummer is as cool as they come...he will never die ,,and ill tell you why,,,cause his spirit will live for ever..hey but the new groups are nowhere,no one comes close,,,not today,,,we need a revolutionery in music
This was it. This was the song that made me go from liking the clash to me loving them for life. It was also this song that made me really start thinking about politics, even with how young I was. Joe strummer, rip. you are missed.
Damn someone wake that crowd up! For the love of jupiter do they know the privilege of who they stand before? I THINK NOT!!! Fortunately I had seen the Clash 3x and knew I was standing before true greatness. Wished I had seen Joe with the Mescaleros though.
I had the pleasure of seeing him twice - albeit late in his career. Once at Glasto in 99. Immense, as generous as ever. & once walking down Portobello rd 4 the first time ever, thinking about The Clash, and there's Joe and 1 of his kids (I guess) outside a tattoo parlour - Joe joking about the designs (I was close enough to hear, & desperate to say something like: you're my no1 hero. But I said nothing, not wanting to intrude. I wish I had, because I've heard that Joe was incredible with fans).
Its beautiful yet strange to see this guy totally at ease w/ himself. Not sure which whether he was more interesting when he was younger or when he was older, but I'm glad he found some peace before her went. God bless Joe Strummer. We need more like him around today.
Joe Strummer (John Mellor) went to a really exclusive public school (City of London Freemen's School in Surrey) and enjoyed a childhood of exclusive privalige. Very posh was Joe. Joe Strummer (John Mellor) went to a really exclusive public school (City of London Freemen's School in Surrey) and enjoyed a childhood of exclusive privalige. Very posh was Joe. The rest was all an act - as he later admitted - he even told me (in 1983) he was a closet Thatcher fan! This doesn't detract from his brilliant music and the fact that he was a really nice, decnet down to earth bloke.
