  • what do you do when it rains???? rain is not good with electricity or generators says right on the instrutions brother not to run them when it does really bad idea if you do can kill yourself or some else .. when power goes out unless it is sunny sky's i would worry with your set up..

  • @drivin69 I connect a large piece of plywood over the engine which completely keeps all the rain off of it.

  • and all ways check for leaks with soapy water and run your like he said but not every few months but every 2 to 3 weeks runing it 2 to 3 weeks will keep every thing lubed and less wear !!!!!! thats why stationary ones run every week

  • @MrBigbmcc I wish I was as diligent as you and ran it every two weeks. But I am not. This seems to work fine for me.

  • at 10:00, why would someone pay 200-$300 at a mechanic shop to clean a guncked up carb!! i work on small engines and how they clean them out is by socking it in gas then blowing it out with a air compressor!

  • @cooey84 Thank you for your comment. Hopefully you have just saved many people the expense of a small engine shop repair.

  • Great video. We did this maintance on our generator. Runs good but not producing electricity. What could be the problem?

  • @texasprepper007 That happened to me too. I had stored it outside and it got rust inside the generator which shorted it out. The engine was good but it would not produce electricity. You might check with a small engine repair place to see if it is worth fixing. It wasn't for me so I sold it on craigslist to someone who just wanted the motor.

  • After watching your original video on the conversion kit I put it on a list of things to do and now I have it and am in the process of hooking it up, thanks for doing the video.

  • @rchopp Awesome! I'm glad this video helped. Enjoy the peace of mind.

  • ¡Great!

  • I grew up on the Texas gulf coast, and when you cranked up your generator, I thought..."Ah yes, thats the sound of hurricane season that I remember", LOL. Thanks very much for the walk-through.

  • @AnnBearForFreedom My niece said she wanted to leave after hurricane Ike because of all of the generator noise.

  • so no issues from the gas company about having that valve on your gas line? Seems like it would be a safety issue as anyone could turn the gas on or does it lock? Also can you run your A/C or heat off of this generator?

  • @logun1970 I called the gas company. They told me that I could do it. It does not lock. No issues so far with anyone messing with it. I looked for a locking valve but could not find one. I can not run my two house A/C units as they pull 8KW when running and 11KW at start up. It works great with my window A/C units. No problem with the heater since that is gas.

  • A great, great video. You are a true prepper, Thank you for so many ideas. Love your channel.

  • They make a device called a generator interlock. Basically it will not allow you to turn on the backfeed breaker until the main breaker is turned off. Search google for interlockkit

  • In studying for my HAM General license last night, I came across a question that asks what you have to do before running your house off of a generator, and it says to make sure that the power from the grid is turned off before hooking up the generator. Apparently this is a serious safety issue? I'm not an electrician, but is this something that should be stressed, to make sure that the grid power is disconnected first? I'm just asking, not criticizing.

  • @SultanOfShinola Absolutely right. If the main power switch/breaker is not opened you will be sending voltage down the power lines witch is, of curse, dangerous to workers trying to restore power or others who may come in contact with downed lines. You would also be 'wasting' some of your generator's limited capacity.

  • @SultanOfShinola Yes it is a big deal. You can kill linemen. That is why I mentioned twice in this video to turn off the main circuit breakers before connecting the generator. Best of luck on your HAM test.
