Tree cutting is good. There are 80% more trees in north american than there were in 1760. As long as logging industries keep planting trees after they cut them down, forests will be better off. A variety of trees ages young, medium, and old, offers a larger variety of species. A young tree also uses more carbon than an older tree. If the loggers don't replant then they run out of trees to sell for money.

It has no use for it as water is transpired up though the outermost part of the tree, thus maintaining growth and biomass production while achieving maximum efficiency. I agree, the old growth should be off limits now. There is plenty of timber to cut elsewhere, re-harvest the pine they keep planting. The old redwoods are not replaceable and there aren't that many left in the scope of things.
