  • Obviously Arvan doesn't match Paul, but to say it sounds bad is just ignorant. These days, thousands of amateurs can blast through Scarified with ease. Back then, to play this well was a mean feat, so give Chris Arvan some credit.

  • Racer X without Paul is like censored porn.

  • fuck lars

  • underrated band

  • that guy took lars drum kit

  • @TheNameIsOZZY

Lol, Lars is nobody compared to Scott.

  • @TheNameIsOZZY hpaphaphaphaphap, what a joke. :)

  • bruce bouillet is one of the most underrated guitarists nowadays, i even think both paul and him have the same guitar level.

  • would i be correct in saying those bridges are Kahler 7300 Flat Mounts ???

  • @RACERXrg550

Almost correct! That is a Kahler 2300 flatmount. The (newer) 7300 flatmounts can be locked into a fixed bridge. Both still available....awesome bridges.

  • that yellow ibanez is fuckin sick.. NOW IF ONLY IT WAS A JEM IN TAT COLOR

  • why so much reverb

  • @AngryLlamaz 80's metal dude..

  • What humbuckers are those? looks LesPauls or very old emg's.

  • Always Nice To See A Master At His Craft!

  • Scot is by far the best drummer out there period!

  • ya without paul it just doesnt have that punch

  • @paulaintbuckethead22

I've never been a fan of the early Racer X tone myself. Absolutely no mid range whatsoever.

Very tinny, and very bassy. Like nails on a fingerboard.

Nowadays when Racer X play, Paul uses much better quality gear.

    Nice name btw lol.

  • Racer X is Paul's Band

  • Im pretty sure that that's the worst guitar sound iv ever heard in my entire life

  • hell yeah @ josiagust Billy Sheehan les claypool etc etc etc

  • Why is he picking so close to the neck??? Like directly over the neck pickup??? BAD

  • @wingeddemon5807

    Why is that bad?

  • @Phrygian12 Because you get a different sound from where you pick and what you have the pickup selecter set to. So he should be in the bridge pickup right now, therefore picking in between both pickups for a best sound.. Not over the neck practically..

  • @wingeddemon5807 so that makes it bad?

some of players like the warm sound you get when playing near the neck others like that bright sound near the bridge every ones different just because he isn't playing like Paul Gilbert doesn't mean hes wrong or bad try telling Marty Friedman that.

  • @Phrygian12 It should be played the way it was intended to be played. Which is not like that

  • @wingeddemon5807 .... Everyone develops twists to their picking style. I think no matter what some of these guys (Malmsteen, Gilbert, Vai, Impelletieri, Friedman, etc.) do, it will sound incredible. And I remember when I was taking lessons my teacher tried to get me to change how I pick (coming down on the strings at an angle instead of straight), but sometimes I like the harmonic sound you get by picking that way. It all works. =) (Does Les Claypool play bass in an orthodox way?)

  • @milpoolXXX I guess you have a point. I just think the sweeps/legatos/arpeggios and things of that nature sound bad picked this way.

  • @wingeddemon5807 .... It depends on the style you like. I know a lot of guitar players who prefer blues (I am talking old school like Robert Johnson) or folk guitar to blaring electrics, but then again some folks try to appreciate everything. That is tough. I used to dislike Clapton because of all the hoopla around him (while SRV got no respect, seemingly). In retrospect, I should not have even thought that way because admittedly Clapton is great.

  • Juan Alderete, such an underrated bassist! Metallica fanboys, who consider Cliff Burton the best metal bass player, have to listen to this guy!

  • @ter50 Yeah, I love Metallica and Cliff was good, but there's a lot of bass players that are better.

  • SICK!!

  • John Alderete is the man.

  • too much distortion

  • well this Chris Arvan actually can't be compared with Paul...and besides Chris is not "shredding" anymore...in the 90s he met Nirvana and throw all his talent away for making another kind of music.

    sad but true.

  • bassist is incredible proby the best

  • @xlespaulgothicx i would have to say steve harris from iron maiden is better

  • @junkyturd well i would have to say there are thousands of better bassists than these two

  • @junkyturd can steve harris beast bass sweep?

  • that chris guy is good i think there better with out paul plus he looks a lil like lynch bby

  • Your kidding right? Chris who? Paul is god

  • maravilhoso esse vídeo !!!!!!

  • That makes a lot of sense. Thank you for you're input.

  • sounds butt without paul WHO ELSE THINKS SO

  • is not racer X whitout Paul!

  • @guidojara This is an instructional video by Scott Travis, not a Racer X performance.

  • @guidojara cool story bro

  • The editors sucked at putting this video together. They should have shown the appropriate people when they were playing the most impressive parts. Like at 0:55 when they show the drummer. Yeah, he's tossing his sticks, but the bass and guitars are doing this awesome tapping. -Or, at 2:09 when they show the guitarist doing nothing when it should be the other guitarist who's playing.

  • I even start too itch when i like those guys... the hair xD

  • who on earth is on bass!?

  • Jon Alderette ...i dunno i forgot how to spell his name. Great bassist anyways..

  • AWESOMEEE BASSIST

  • Yeah, I miss the PG twang tone. I used to hate, but he made so awesome

  • im a huge PG fan but Bruce Bouillet is fucking amazing

  • Me too. They're both awesome ;-)

  • Racer X with Paul Gilbert was the best band ever.

  • This is pretty awesome although it is lacking that Paul touch. I still gave it 5 stars, but no one can really imitate Paul's awesome technique.

  • Damn that suck it doesnt have that Paul Gilbert Tone. =( this isnt Racer X with out paul

  • Technically same as original but they are missing...missing...PAUL!

    Therefore, nonsense to me.

  • wow really? faget

  • Watha fuck mano massa pa caraio!

mas porque tu num bate msm XD bacteria? *Bateria

  • pg shuda appeared as a special guest in this but....his solo may've taken the fame lol

  • Scott is an awesome drummer. The Human Metronome was what we called him. Lives in VB and a great guy.. really solid and down to earth. Always love seeing him.. sometime playing with a "small" local band just keeping his chops up.

  • Paul gilbert Aka the guitarist in Racer X he wrote all the songs

+ That yellow guitar id kill for that one so fawkin sexeh

  • geez Paul Gilbert is a beast to have composed such a song O_o. It gives the drummer, bassist, 2nd guitarist a not so easy time too. These guys are beast too :D

  • i dont think paul gilbert composed it - in was of his videos he says scarified was written FOR racer x

  • he was in racer x, he wrote it.... and he says "this is a Racer X song, its called scarified" exactly.

  • scarified was written FOR racer x BY paul gilbert...

  • n00b

  • It's Scott Travis from Judas Priest!

  • It's Scott Travis from Racer X!

  • It´s Scott Travis from Fight (with Rob Halford)!

  • who's the drummer?

  • that bassist is a beast

  • were ibanez' with the sd minihumbucker the rage with racer x or what?

  • that isn't gilbert, it's bouillet and someone else i don't know.

  • QUE ANIMALES!!!!!!

  • DAMMIT! there goes my chance of the perfect band!

  • Good lord, the bassist is practically sweep picking with his fingers.

    That's insane.

  • super human fingers

  • Alderete is a monster especially his Mars Volta work

  • hey whos the other guitar player(the guy playing the red one) and how soon after this did scott leave

  • thats bruce bouliette, him and paul gilbert were the origional members

  • Bruce isn't an original member of Racer X, their first album Street Lethal, was recorded without Bruce.

  • Yo estube en una audición de Racer-x como baterista. Cojieon a Scott porque él es colega. Por cierto, paul dile a Palop que el sábado tengo que acompañar a mi abuela al podólogo y llegaré tarde al local.

    soytuso

  • so this is after paul left

  • Scott Travis just fucking ownz! Bruce Bouillet's guitar solo on this clip is just fucking scary as hell!

  • i saw scott travis with judas preist this summer and I have to say he is a MACHINE on the drums!!!!!

  • I dont know that Sacott is in other band,Judas Priest owna, but racer x is not bad rsrs

  • is george lynch on guitar??

  • THATS WHAT I THOUGHT

  • My favorite Racer-X song right here and now !!!

    Thanks for posting this !!!

  • hahhahaahahahha when the bassist takes a bite 2:00 to 2:03

  • Wow 150bpm isn't it? John Alderete you're great!!

  • Scott Travis is A GIANT! lol awesome playing.

  • good guitar playing man. CTROCK THE HIP HOP ROCK GUITAR ARTIST

  • Wow, what song is this?

  • Racer X - Scarified

  • what model ibanez are they?

  • I've met Scott Travis. He was really cool. I saw him at a Poison and Ratt show. Since we both live in the same town, its not unusual to see him.

  • dude, I've always wanted to meet Scott. Your lucky.

  • amesome!

  • Wow, someone's pretty cool trying to be hard over the internet.

  • The bassist is amazing :|

  • i arge man that guy is awsome and travis is one of my fav drummers since he started in priest

  • PAUL GILBERT FTW

  • Paul Gilbert is not in this video. The blond guy with the yellow Ibanez is Chris Arvan who was supposed to take his place when he left to do Mr.Big. He only did very fews show with them, one of which was also Paul's farewell show at the CC. But then Racer X decided to go forth as a 4-piece with Jamie Brown on vocals. Jeff Martin formed a new Racer X-type band called Bad Dog with Russ Parrish (pre-Fight) on guitar and Todd DeVito on drums. Todd had played in Black Sheep with Paul Gilbert earlier.

  • I think hes talking about Paul Gilberts music when he says "PAUL GILBERT FTW", even if other players are playing.

  • Todd was the drummer for Racer X for a VERY Short time, after Harry left to go back to Austria. He goes by Vito DeVito, if you can believe that...and his dad owns a drum hardware company.

  • I know, I've seen Vito at NAMM at the Dunmar booth. I think he was also teching for Vinny Appice at one time - maybe he still is. Do you have any Bad Dog live videos? I know they played a few shows around Hollywood, incl. the at Roxy.

  • kiss the severed head!!! eyeballs in a jar!!!!

  • Are they wearing sweat pants??

  • well they're wearing clothes from the 80s so most likely spandex.

  • The Bass player is not billy sheenan u asshole.. he is John Alderete.. He's now playing for The Mars Volta

  • Its billy Sheenan... ;)

  • Anyone know who the bass player is? he's reallllllly good i mean that's fast as!

  • Damn they hold their instruments ridiculously high.

  • To play that technical, you can't sling it Sex Pistols low.

  • scott fucking rules!

  • No. You mean Scott fucking Travis!!!

  • yeah i believe this is when paul left racer x to form mr big, scott travis took his spot while chris arvan also joined racer x when declining a record deal.

since then, mr big has come and gone, and now racer x is back together again. although each member of racer x is out doing their own thing. IE paul's get out of my yard solo debute' =]

    -matt

  • how the fuck could scott travis take paul gilberts spot, scotts the drummer dumb ass

  • Scott Travis Now drums for JUDAS PRIEST

  • switch scott travis and chris arvan in my post, i was somewhat drunk, excuse the minor detail failure -.-

  • very true. you get a brownie point for being right.

i bet you didnt know this was scotts life-hold dream now did you?

  • yea he did know that you little bitch. you think you can hang with the big boys now huh?... you're nothing, alright

  • your opinion doesnt matter. no one asked for it. so keep your fucking mouth shut you little shit and fuck off.

  • HAHAHA what did you say? dam man, pull that cock out of your mouth when you talk

  • I wonder if the bass player ever choked on his guitar? He has it higher up on his chest than The Beatles wore their guitars.

  • gotta have it hung that way for technical playing , jimmy page never played an arpeggio

  • It's also from Scott Travis' instructional drum video. They must have both used the same footage.

  • Also from John Alderete's instructional tape. I think the footage is a little different. Alderete's video obviously shows a little more of the bass playing. Everyone in this band rocks, though.

  • Really? He made an instructional video!? How it's called?

  • This is from a bruce boulliet(sorry if i spelled name wrong) instructional video. Paul wasen't here but scott travis and Juan(or john) alderete is.

  • Yea, Chris Arvan gave up a deal on Shrapnel to join Racer X after Gilbert left so I hear.

  • This is a great song when was it recorded

  • What the f? SCOTT? IS THAT YOU?

  • were's gilbert?

  • In Mr. Big at the time. Chris Arvan took Paul's place in Racer X for a short time, and played in this Bruce Bouillet instructional video.

  • theese guys have great rythem...also the bassist is just fucking amazing. the guitarist is good but i would not call him virtuosa, but still fucking amazing man. but there rythem...shit! its just too damn good

  • Putz!

  • really you wouldn't call paul gilbert a virtuoso? do me a favour and don't EVER make another comment to do with music again.Alright faggot?

  • Paul Gilbert isn't playing in this video. This video is from the Racer X website, and it is Bruce's instructional video. The other guitarist is Chris Arvan.

  • Scott Travis tought me the drums 15 years ago...and I am grateful. Masterful.

  • RACER X!!! Probably the most underrated/not nearly as popular as they deserved to be band of the 80's and 90's.

  • definitely, they are timeless, i know of a lot of metal/rock bands today who couldnt play this song. They kicked ass in the 80s and 90s and still are kicking the shit out of modern metal! Except hardly anyone knows who they are, which is a shame.

  • i can almost play this, I can play all the shreddy rhythm in the intro but probably couldnt play all the lead parts without messing up, and when I can, i dont know where im gonna find another guitarist to do the harmony :D

  • wow.. so you can play the rhythm part...yep you definitely qualify as being able to "almost play" this piece. Faggot

  • juan/john alderete on bass, now with TMV

  • This is some heavy shit, man.

  • SCARFIED?

  • Yup.

  • That bassist is mad good (scott always kicks ass). Who is he?

  • John Alderete.

  • He's fuckin crazy. Awesome bassist.

  • He's currently playing bass for the Mars Volta

  • Scott Travis is gold!

  • Scott Travis is such an awesome drummer

  • where is paul gilbert?

  • This is from Bruce's instructional video that I posted on the Racer X site. Paul had left Racer X to play in Mr. Big and Chris Arvan was recruited to join Racer X. Go to the Racerxband site and I have an interview with Chris that explains most of it.
