  • Could stand to be a bit more tinny.

  • He will forever be the most beautiful. Lovely down to its core.

  • Everything sounds good but I think there was some notes that was off a little, it's just what I heard only.

  • God, his voice puts so much emotion into what were just words on a paper.

  • still amazing. makes the heart long.

  • you gotta be kidding, what's next? unchained melody?

  • it's funny, every time i listen to this song, something seems to get in my eye...

  • I adore this cover & the way he says heavenly.

  • JOYCE DANELEN FOR PRESIDENT.

    JOYCE DANELEN MS. U.S.A.

    JOYCE DANELEN IS BEAUTIFUL

  • I love how I love you for knowing how I love you. <3

  • Aditi thakur loves this song. And me, her.

  • @ZoeSquared21 it actually is 'mangum'. weird but true.

  • @ZoeSquared21 yeah sorry breh, it IS mangum. look it up.

  • @ZoeSquared21 You're an idiot.

  • @TheBrocheese Not really. It's just that almost all of the videos on Youtube AND the wikipedia page (at the time that I posted that comment- it changed now) said magnum. I'm corrected now. No need to be rude.

  • @ZoeSquared21 That's not true and there's every reason to be rude.

  • @TheBrocheese It is true. Also, one of the very first things I read about him was an interview where they called him Magnum and even made a really bad joke about how Oh Comely was his Magnum Opus (haha, get it?)

  • @ZoeSquared21 Dude, stop lying. No videos were titled "magnum" and the wikipedia page would not have said "magnum" considering how long he's been known to the general public. You always thought it was magnum but you were always wrong, just admit it. I can tell you're a chronic lier, but even on Youtube man??

  • @ZoeSquared21 whoa, I'm kind of shocked at how sure you were.

  • ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu. come back.

  • 4 people have never been in love.

  • God this album is classic and you were there filming it, I'm pretty jealous.

  • Fucking awesome performance of a beautiful song.

  • I would give anything to see Jeff Mangum play this song live!

  • freakin brilliant

  • Great cover. I just bought this C.D. at Chicago's Pitchfork Festival yesterday. Easily the best solo performance from anyone. I wish that this wasn't the end for NMH's/ Jeff Mangum's music career.

  • The version on 'How it all caved in' i.e. a torrent of the final gig in New Zealand is so much better. The way his voice falters at the beginning is amazing. Jeff = joy...

  • hello.

  • FUCK THE 3 DISLIKES!!!!!!!!!

  • The things that I'd do to get a chance and see him :/

  • PHIL SPECTOR produced but did not write it.

  • I can't stop replaying this song :)

  • I love the delicacy that's exposed here, compared to recoreded versions. :)

  • Holy crap this is awesome.

Why does jeff mangum make it so hard to give him money!? I'd love to buy a new album or see him live.

  • Sometimes I get so sad, that I'd like to believe that love doesn't really exist like everyone says it does. But I know better. Everywhere I look, I can see proof of love. If nothing else were to exist, I'd like love to be that one thing that exists. In terms of music, this is one of the greatest songs that show such feelings of love. Especially it's sung by such a moving singer as Jeff Mangum. That Astra Taylor is one lucky woman.

  • i love this songgg <3 so amazing

  • Effortlessly brilliant.

  • This is so beautiful. Jeff Mangum is such an inspiration.

  • My exboyfriend used to sing this to me. I miss him so much. ))): </3

    hahah

  • Ughh !!

  • thank you a million times for posting this. i love this version, and jeff mangum.

  • Great song. Too bad Phil Spector murdered that girl. <_<

  • chyeah too bad

  • I hold the opinion that, but when Phil Spector gets his share of justice, it will be recognized as his appropriate share of vengeance-- and, always, vengeance is uniquely individualized

  • I just heard "ANd so this is Christmas (War is Over)" and almost sang this song right in its place - I'm surprised Phil Spector never sued John for totally stealing this

  • John Lennon and Phil Spector worked together, in fact, he most probably produced that song.

  • I was just reading Albert Goldman's "Lennon Remembers" and Spector even knew he was ripping him off...Lennon responded by saying he was stealing from the best, so it was ok" Spector is obviously a sick f*ck, but at least he had some loyalty in terms of not taking Lennon to court.

  • I don't think you understand the simplicity of this chord progression and just how common these cadences are in pop music.

  • its the lyrics

  • With that logic I suppose all 12-bar songs should be disregarded then, right? Basically the entire spectrum of blues? Most of early rock and roll? Good music has nothing to do with complexity, it's about the soul.

  • woah woah woah. I was replying to the person who said this song was a rip off of War is Over by John Lennon. I wasn't criticizing the song and certainly not this amazing performance.

  • I am sorry if I seem uninformed here. I am. Who are you saying ripped off who?

  • I love this song.

So much. Reminds me of better days

  • "i love you how think of me without being told to"

the boy i fell in love with played this for me on our 3rd date. :)

  • I'd be kinda creeped out if someone played this for me on only the third date.

  • haha. im going on my third date with this guy and i thought about sending him these lyrics, but then i was like....wait a second.

  • *heard

  • i just hear about these guys a couple days ago and this by far one of the greatest covers i've heard. :]

  • I love his voice!!!

  • this song made me cry when I first heard it.

My favorite line is "I love how your heart beats/whenever I hold you." I don't know why.

  • The first time through, I got chills.

    The second time, tears.

  • I love how he pronounces 'heavenly'

  • EPIC.

  • Aw. Tear jerkingly beautiful ^_^

  • Fabulous, my new favorite song

  • You can get this video if you just buy the CD. It's enhanced. I just bought it yesterday. It's sweet. Just look up "Jeff Magnum - Live at Jittery Joe's" on Amazon or it might be at your local record store. That's where I got mine. The guy that recorded this was a filmmaker named Lance Bangs.

But you guys should definitely pick up the CD.

  • that's where i got these.

  • Something so saintly about these recordings, thanks Person X who was there with a camera. Peace

  • incredible

  • theres always something about jeffs voice that turns the simplest of songs into such a beautiful piece of hearing art.

  • Extraordinary. The sincerity in his voice turns a pappy pop song into something that sounds holy.

  • that is such a perfect description.

  • Pappy pop song? Open your mind, indie boy. Jeff's version is great...and so is the Phil Spector/Paris Sisters' original.

  • exuse me but what could u possibly be referring 2? generic53's comment prehaps? i sure hope u r or else ur gonna get some utube commenter fury war thing.

  • Nice job...

  • Nice job...

  • something tells me you're missing what his fans are hearing.

  • He was musical genius. Still is I'm sure. There's a simplicity about him that brings out the beauty in anything he performs.

  • Well Simon, if this were American Idol, you might be right. However, it is much deeper than that. Creativity... Music how it should be.

  • actualy he isn't, this clip is taken off a live album, and he isn't drunk.

  • Never heard this song before, but it is so great

  • jeff mangum's voice is so purdy

  • i've had the mp3 of this performance for so long and its just so weird and amazing to see the video of it. thank you so much for posting these performances, they're really amazing.

  • yeah, definitely. i know what you mean. seeing it really adds another level to it. glad you enjoyed it.

  • do you have the mp3 you could send to me via email or something?? i'm trying to find it as we speak. it's a rather tough one

  • this song is beautiful.

  • I miss neutral milk hotel oh so much.

  • We all do.

  • im not gay but, i would so make out with him if jeff mangum sang that song to me.

  • So be it. At any rate, he pry wouldn't. He only sings that song with Anna in mind.

  • love it

  • chills. literally.

  • too bad phil spector just shot some broad.

  • The way this is filmed makes this song even more touching.

  • beautiful

  • stunning

  • we need more scott solo's.

  • Neutral Milk Hotel is one of the greatest bands to come out of the 90s. PLEASE COME BACK, JEFF!
