It all has to do with how many lines are taken off the goal for different line clears and the fact the any additional lines that SHOULD be taken off when you advance levels are not. You can abuse the system to score more points.

And this is why I don't play "official" Tetris games. I don't have the patience to master an extremely oddball (to put it kindly) scoring system that, instead of rewarding continous Tetrises, actually PUNISHES you for that.

I still don't quite understand this. Are you saying that you score more points by doing 1x lines until towards the end of the level and then you do a tetris and T-spin?

So like if the level had 8 lines until you progress to the next level, you score more points in 1x,1x,Tetris(4x),T-Spin(2x) than you would with Tetris(4x),Tetrix(4x)?

Honestly that wouldn't make sense. I thought you're supposed to get more points with each Tetris? That is, One x 4 < Four x 1

Read the 'more info' for this video. Splash uses a variable goal system, a Tetris takes off 8 lines from the goal, not 4.

Thanks for posting this. I've been wondering how you guys get such a high score... The highest I've gotten was just a few days ago...715413. That put me in 2nd place for a day or so. "UKnOwULiKeThAT" is currently in first with 902859. Apparently, he knows your scoring system, just as well.

Actually I'm back online again. Yes, I do play on facebook. Right now I've got 7th overall with 941,600. I don't use the keyboard though. Never could. I use a xbox 360 controller. :-)

Why are combo chains higher than x1 bad?

It's all to do with the math. Any combo 2x or higher will take off additional lines from the goal. Doing a 1x combo will remove the same amount of lines from the goal that you clear onscreen. A 2x combo or higher will give you a additional amount of lines to the lines that you clear onscreen. Since you will have less lines to clear because of the combo bonus, that limits the amount of available lines to clear, thus putting a cap on the score you can get in any given game. It's all about ratio's.
