  • I definitely agree, these believers are totally ignorant

  • i think the blood type just describes your personality briefly, but each person differs from the brief definition.

I don't know if anyone here actually applied it to themselves, but I did. I'm O, and in the middle of reading that, I was like: WOW! THAT IS SO ME. Except some factors like "O types r always late" and "O types r messy".

  • i'm an idiot... well then you're a big fat meanie face!

  • I think the whole determining ones personality-type is stupid. Whether it's Astrology, Blood Type, Numerology, what your shit smells like, etc.

James Randi debunked the whole idea a while ago. The descriptions are all so general and vague for the supposed personality-types. Everyone shares some part of all the characteristics listed for each blood type. Perception is reality. Blood type ain't gonna make a difference.

  • Sorry but the whole blood type personality start with the Germans during the Nazi era and as usual the Japanese Ape everything Europeans do or think. Well I'll give a Type A+ for those Japs admiration of Hitler.

  • Man ppl are pretty harsh to you on this video. I think that with the limited amount of time that we've as human have been able to view ourselves we don't really know what we are. The negative positive aspects of bloodtype seem to have a matching property. We are still finding out about ourselves. The best question is why do ppl have different blood types? There is a reason for everything.

  • Don't ever use the words "what not" it's a hiphop slang term and white persons need to avoid all associations with hiphop.

unless of course you wish to be labled a wigger.

  • @azkeyz 1. Don't tell me what to do. 2. you sound like a racist 3. I don't know what "what not" has to do with hip hop, nor do I care what you or anyone else wants to label me as.

  • Maybe there is a gene on the same chromosome as the blood type gene that has a slight influence on the way your brain works. Even if there is such a gene, its effect on your personality would be negligible due to all the other factors, but it is far more plausible than astrology.

By the way, 1970s is only when the theory was revived and introduced into popular culture. It started in the 20s as a serious theory among researchers, but interest faded in the 30s when proven to be unscientific.

  • well i have to agree that its ridiculous to see people horoscope shit. blood types are just for the fun mostly, but it follows a general patterns of personality it doesnt mean every one with B type is that every one with O is that

it means that they usually and ive heard that 80% or less follows the general personality some are totally off. Btw white people mostly have bigger pointy nose than asians those kind of things are just general features.

  • lol japanese ppl r stupid

  • I think you are very stupid, very arrogant and quite rash in your judgements. Current science cannot prove everything. dont think current science can prove everything. BTW, FYI most whites are either A or O and therefore it is not useful to them but in Japan and Korea, all the blood types are evenly distributed(A, AB,B,O) you are an igornat asshole.

  • @willy517 Don't blame me for your inability to filter out bad ideas. You are correct, science cannot prove everything, that's not the purpose. For example, if you said "hey science, go prove santa exists", it wouldn't happen.

As for your second bit of non-sense, most people are A+ or O+, not just white people. and all blood types are not evenly distributed. Asians (listed data is +Rh) O 39%, A 27%, B 25%, AB 7%. Caucasians O 37%, A 33%, B 9%, AB 3% - Data from the red cross web page.

  • @RisuMiso you are so stupid...do some research( blood types and distribution among different natioanlities). btw I am a Harvard graduate..what about you?

  • @willy517 I guess Asian wasn't specific enough for you. here from another site (bloodbook) Japanese O 30%, A 38%, B22%, AB 10%. This would show that Japanese people are also mostly O and A blood types. I'm not sure what you are trying to prove to me by saying "it's not useful to them", what isn't useful to them?

Learn to form an argument of some sort, and do as you say "some research" and back yourself up with a fact or two. They probably teach that at Harvard.

  • @willy517 Well, willy, I just took 2 minutes to look at the Red Cross web site and it says exactly what he said it would say - just the opposite of what you said. It shows your utter ignorance and arrogance to think that because you (claim to have) attended Harvard, that you know everything about everything.

the redcrossblood site on page : learn-about-blood/blood-types

Has a chart that show EXTREME disparity of blood types and difference among the races.

Maybe Harvard has a janitorial class.

  • @willy517 Not everything but it can prove that blood type has nothing to do with any objective trait of a person, as a matter of fact. Many things it can't, this it can.

  • dude its a joke

    chill

  • @backfan

There is a teapot orbiting around the sun. But our telescopes are not powerful enough to see it yet. Do you believe in the teapot?

The default position is not believing there is a blood type relationship until proof is provided.

There is nothing complicated about testing this. What is wrong with the simple test he described?! You obviously have no scientific background.

BTW, this originally came from racist Nazi ideologies in the 30s. It was revived in the 70s.

  • There is no evidence that blood type dictates personality, but it has been proven that blood type effects the way your immune system works.

  • i love how western people call japan's categorising by blood type 'ridiculous', yet horoscopes are so readily accepted. thats what i call ridiculous.

  • @ochappyrinka Don't worry, I equally condemn astrology. All of it falls into the same pile of credulous thinking.

  • me makes my personality.

  • Bakarayo temee

  • blood type personalities kinda singles the person out. once you say your blood type they'll compare you to the traits, or expect you to turn out as predicted. i mean the concept seems fun, like teen magazine amusing. but, it shouldn't be an issue to determine further communication towards someone or a job position.

hope no one is hating or characterizing the O negatives ;D

    haha!!

  • @backfan Your rational is amusing. You obviously don't understand how the scientific method works.

  • blood type, statistically/probability, DOESNT PROVE ANYTHING!!!!!! there is NO relation between bloodtype with personality...!!! wake up japan!!

but racism exist... there are differences between races.... fortunately! much more fun with diversity than homogenity...

  • It is unfortunate that people like to categorize things but this is just one of many ways that we like to do it. It is very much like gossip and entertainment.

  • What I was trying to say is we should again evolve, and realize that we are all the same; as well as different. There are approximately 6.9 billion people on the earth, so in 'my' opinion approximately 6.9 billion personalities; but overall we are 'all' the same... To a certain extent of course.

  • The world is full of silly nonsensical theories that seem to exist only to separate people from other people. I watched a documentary once that showed that for most of mans history we naturally evolved and lived in tribes between 150-200 people, but in an extremely brief period we started forming large civilizations. So things like religion, class systems, and apparently 'blood types' are just tools we use to live in a smaller more comfortable world. Just a theory, but I think it makes sense.

  • when you are O- it is quite obvious that blood group matters

  • How so?

  • well I have always been accused of being anti social but recently discovered that the few good friends i do have and which I trust are all O- too.

    it is an interesting science

  • @RisuMiso I'd like to know as well lol

  • you probably don't even know how many blood types there are... you don't believe in it just because of seeing some obsessive believers, or being pissed of by the girl who doesn't like you just because of your blood type... hiding behind of the mask of science for every little bit of obsessive behavior doesn't make you an "educated" person.

  • There is 30, but when we are talking Blood type personality it's only ever talking about the four main ones. I'm married, I don't care if people don't like my blood type etc. Science is not a mask it's a candle in the dark. I don't believe it because there is no evidence in favour of it. If there was evidence I would be inclined to believe it.

  • Sorry I mean no offense. but there are reasons and "evidence" for people to believe it. (doesn't mean I do...) I find many people are different from their bloodtypes that claims them to be... many Japanese people believe in this because of this video: watch?v=_941810K74s

I find it's intriguing. I do think it's rude to ask people this kind of questions.

  • Well, that video I wouldn't consider a very good test. The students know they are grouped by blood type, and already know what the "dispositions"(i.e. how they should act) are for each blood type. The teacher knows what the experiment is (not double-blind), etc.

Don't worry about offending me, it's only the internet!

  • They also didn't have a hypothesis, they just saw what happened and drew conclusions after.

  • blood type can digestion its a comon fac... if digestion canbe dependend on blody why personality not? of course it doest mean that youll be in 100% as books about blood the types says but the type of blood could tell you what predisposition for what behaviors you have....

  • I would require scientific evidence that has been peer reviewed and published in a recognized journal. Currently the scientific community (Japanese included) has dismissed the notion as pseudoscience. I don't have time to believe in myth when there are plenty of mysteries and wonders in the real world.

  • the way i see it its not that you have to believe it just for fun not take it seriously just saying it has it own some effect that differs from other types if your not than your not, thats all. but some claim things like Brazil has lot of O blood type and Japan has lot of A type

also in Japan theres this blood type personality manual book that did quite well in 2008, if your interested and can read Japanese, go check it out ^^

  • Oh men you're right! Blood type=personality is stupid! Does it mean if you're type O ( since it's universal donor) means a sharing guy. I personally know one that's he's O but he's definitely not! Blood types are just blood classifications of antigens in the RBC inherited fr, parents so babies dont have a choice do they? Yah this is similar to racism. It's more reliable if you judge the person fr. it's inner character than the pigments of their skin or what's inside it.

  • Yup, great comment!

  • Blood type is ridiculous and more than a little racist! Now Astrology that's the real deal ;)

  • Yup, and haha.

  • Dave is a "Z" blood type.

    Or is it "SM" type?

  • Lived in Japan?? Cool man!

  • Yup that's where I live!

  • Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but.. a lack of an open mind can be just as annoying. I'm not saying that I believe that bloodtypes are associated with personality... However, having said that, there have been actual studies that different blood types respond differently to certain diets/food groups. Even longevity. And these are statistics. Not myths or speculation.

  • I also agree that everyone is entitled to their opinions and are free to speak them. My mind is not closed, I just will not believe myth portrayed as science as it is misleading. Blood personality research has an ugly history on the purposes of 'reducing certain attributes of other races such as the Ainu and Taiwanese'. It is completely unfounded research that does not follow the scientific method making it not science.

  • Present me with quantitative and qualitative evidence that is repeatable (and repeated by other parties) and I'll withdraw my statement in a heart beat.

  • No need. I never was debating the fact that blood types most likely hold no credibility, concerning personality-traits. They may, they may not. I'm not basing my life around what my friends blood types are. I do quite a bit of research on the concrete, physical proof for health purposes.

  • Personalities are just like music. Every music tune is made of a mix of rythm, melody and harmony. Of course, you will rarely encounter a music purely made of one of those elements, it would be pretty boring!... But you always have one or two of those elements which are prevailing in a tune, up to a certain degree, and when none of those elements are prevailing it is a complex music.

  • There was a french psychologist in the 30s, called Leone Bourdel. She believed that personalities and the capacities of the individual to adapt to the world, were linked with musical tastes. She studied a number of test subjects and classified them according to their main musical tastes, harmonic, melodic, rythmic and complex. And then she proceded to find a corelation between those tastes and their physical caracteristics.

  • She took notes of their age, sex, height, cephalic index, occulo-cardiac reflex, blood pressure numbers, and so on... She found no positive corelation, until something struck her in 1942, when she looked upon their blood groups : the huge majority of the B blood group people (something like 90%) had taste for rythmic music, the big majority of AB blood group people had taste for complex musics, and to a lesser extent, the majority of O blood group...

  • ...had taste for melodic music, and the A had often taste for harmonic music. Then she knew she was onto something, and pursued her researchs which were the basis of two books published in the 60s. Before and after her, many doctors like Karl Gobber, Fritz Schaer, Raymond Cattell, studied the link between blood type and personalities, and they all have found some pretty strong links between them, but they did not necessarily come the same conclusions than their japanese peers

  • The Japanese peer who started this 'study' was a sumo sports reporter. So far there has been no strong evidence in any study I am aware of even remotely linking blood type to the 4 blood types. To put it plainly it is on the same level as astrology. There are no published studies that even come close to proving it, because it's a false correlation.

  • A long time before Masahiko and Toshitaka Nomi, there was Takeji Furukawa in the 30s, and I am not sure he was even the one who started to research this topic, because just in 1930 the german Karl Gobber started his own research apparently ignoring what Furukawa was on, and then later refining on what the japanese found. For Furukawa the O and B were the "active" blood groups, while the A and AB were the "passive" blood groups...

  • For Gobber the Bs were indeed active people because of their lack of influenceability by their environments, while the Os were active only in reaction to their environments (even if they don't want to admit so!...). The A placed in the right circumstances could become as active as others, and with even more sense of the aim to reach. ABs were a mix of the others. Those who are familiar with the rythmic, melodic and harmonic personalities portrayed by Bourdel will see...

  • ...that Gobber was already on the right track. What is problematic with the japanese is that they often lacked synthetic spirit when compiling their observations of the blood groups, and were often taking an element out of its context to make a generality out of it.

  • Furukawa had no credentials, and his study involved only 10 - 20 people.

There is no proven correlation between blood type and personality. The scientific community dismisses such beliefs as superstition and pseudoscience.

If you believe in such things I feel sorry for you.

  • Furukawa was a psychology professor, and one of his test groups involved up to 248 students. Apparently you seem to be completely unaware of the european research on this topic, and you haven't even documented yourself. Superficiality and showing you are feeling sorry for others, are typical O traits, and not sincere ones. As Gobber put it, Os believe they are making one with the world and they don't understand why they could be an opposition between them and...

  • ... the rest of this world, hence their stubborness. Japanese are wrong to believe that Bs are stubborn by nature, the Os are far more stubborn. Bs are far more pragmatic even if they don't like being influenced by others. They can reach compromise more efficiently, in order to get back into action, their strongest "raison d'être".

  • In western european countries, the "celtic" people have a huge reputation of being stubborn and hardheaded, and they even pride themselves in being so. Incidentally those areas exhibit some of the highest concentrations of O blood group in the world. Asiatics on the contrary, have the highest concentration of B blood groups, and they have the reputation of being pragmatic and focused : those are exactly rythmic caracteristics...

  • You are delusional. Since you like copy paste so much here is a modern quote not based on poorly conducted experiments for the purpose of scientific racism.

Blood type is determined by the proteins in the blood - hardly a determinant of character. "It's mere superstition," says Tatsuya Sato, associate professor of psychology at Ritsumeikan University. "Linking blood type and personality is not only unscientific, it's wrong."

  • It's wrong because blood type is an hereditary trait and hence linking it with temperament is "racist" : yeah, I know what you mean... You are getting close to getting a Godwin point my friend...

PS : I am not copying and pasting, because the useful informations on this topic, on the net, is rather scarse in english language. Most of the good stuff is in french...

  • Well, you are basically wasting your time trying to convince me. If this were true don't you think perhaps it would be published as fact in psychological journals and text books instead of being dismissed by reputable doctors and scientists?

Nothing good comes from the spread of this non-sense.

  • What you call reputable doctors and scientists, are people afraid of losing their chairs if they were even conducting up to date research on this topic, because so strong is the taboo in today's world of being labelled a "racist", even if blood type has nothing to do with race. It is hereditary stuff, so it doesn't sale, so to speak, into the democratic consumer society pushed on the rest of the world by the western countries...

  • Last but not least, I am never losing my time, I am just practising, as a good rythmic that I am... ;-)

  • Unless you can prove that ALL people of one blood type share certain traits than it's basically irrelevant to the INDIVIDUAL. If you cannot predict individual behavior by blood type there is no point in insisting it is "true."

  • The individual as you put it in big letters, is worth nothing without its mates, that's why we are living in a SOCIETY. Anything that could make that society runs better and smoother is good in my book. If I was asked my blood type, I would see nothing wrong with it. There are no silly questions, only silly people. Such kind of questions would be a good starting point to shatter stereotypes not by chatting in emptiness, but by your ACTIONS.

  • I agree questioning is good. But think of this, if there were any truth behind it the Japanese could have done REAL research using thousands of people -- which is what REAL research demands. THEN the research would have to be validated by other researchers. If any real research was out there, others would have found the grant money to try and validate and/or refute it. That is not the case.

It is irrelevant to the indies & the decisions we make in life as indies unless it is true for all of us.

  • Lastly, what are your qualifications? Why should we believe you over the prof at Ritsumeikan?

  • Even if I was a fully fledged diplomed scientist, you wouldn't believe me. This need to get validated by other researchers, is the root of the problem, as we live in a world who can't stand any hereditary determinism. Unless there is a revolution, it wouldn't change.

  • As you are talking about me, yes, I have seen the corelation firsthand, because in my job I have to check identity papers. When people are opening their wallets in front of me, I often see what is written on their blood cards, or even their ID cards (some countries put the blood type on them for emergency use). That way they cannot cheat me. And I often see big differences in behavior, that positively corelates with their groups.

  • Of course, it is just my word or that of now passed doctors, against thousands of "validated" progressist people. I think I have finished for today, resting on the convinction that there is no worst blind than the one who does not want to see.

  • Even if I was a fully fledged diplomed scientist, you wouldn't believe me.

    ---

Of course I wouldn't believe you because you were that...but I would believe you if you could present a good argument. And I'd be more prone to believe you if you had at least gotten others to give you a doctorate.

Not that the PhD is almighty. I know people with PhDs who are idiots. But I see by your comments that you are guilty of the same thing you accuse me of being guilty of. Assumption.

  • What is a good argument? Only one you agree with... For somebody who wants a break, you are not very keen onto giving it to others. Yes I am assuming, especially when from your own admission on your own channel, you are here to put on "random verbal diarrhea". Maybe there is a doctorate in America for that kind of thing, you could scan it and display it on your blog, so we all know you are talking serious stuff when fooling around... :-)

  • Wow. Now you're a dipshit. Thanks for clearing that up by doing 2 things.

    1-Emailing me privately.

    2-Showing you cannot read.

I'm always interested in a good discussion. If you cannot answer even the simplest questions I am wasting my time. I wasn't insulting you. I was simply asking questions. The fact that you act so defensively only makes your position seem less tenable.

Take care. Don't PM again. If it can't be put in the comments, I ain't interested.

  • dude calm down

  • 040221 相葉雅紀-血型and性格的實驗

  • haha, I'm so glad you made a video on this, great idea. I had discussions about this with my wife, and had to disagree with her on this. Shit, I don't even remember what my blood type is, I think all that shit is in their head, they tell people it's true and everyone starts thinking it and really believing it. Or putting blame of whatever personality on IT. PEOPLE! IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD! or maybe I don't know my personality yet because I haven't looked into it, yeah that's gotta be it.

  • Yeah it's frustrating when people believe pseudoscience.

  • In general, Koreans also believe in Blood type Personality. I'm AB, and that's why I'm sometimes shy, and at the same time Out going. Depending on what situation I have, I use instinct to pull A or B blood type personality, and that looks very strange to some people. But, I do not care because I love my blood type...

  • If you want to believe in fake science made up by a sumo wrestling reporter than that is your choice.

Can you honestly believe that their are only 4 personality types?

  • I don`t know my blood tipe either becouse i`ve never donated blood. But i agree with you becouse there just can`t be 4 types of personality.

  • Same thing happening in Korea. Girls here also don't like B blood type guys, and because I'm A, I apparently have a 'narrow-mind'. Says the people not willing to talk to me because I'm a foreigner...

  • I think classifying people into 4 personality types is pretty narrrow-minded too. At least in Japan people won't snub you because you are a foreigner. All the people I've had to deal with have been friendly here.

  • Yeah, I've noticed the difference in interactions between Koreans and Japanese with how they deal with foreigners, and I'm pretty sure I prefer Japan. It's a bit easier to become friends with Koreans though once the initial hurdle is jumped, I find anyways.

  • Yeah, I've heard Korea likes to blame all of their problems on foreigners.

  • I just had to watch the video again....."if you believe in astrology, your an idiot" I couldn't stop laughing. Epic win!

  • I'm not the most subtle person.

  • Very annoying false belief. My friends went more over the edge with "Word Power" based on lucky numbers connected to the number of stokes in kanji. They actually changes their names based on the kooky idea.

And crazy fortune tellers who would drop sticks and base your future on this. Some people must ask a fortune teller before making any decision.

    Japanese are highly superstitious people!

    Drove me nuts!

  • Yeah some of them can be very superstitious.

  • So in Japan they only know 4 personality types? Must get boring quick =P

I wonder if some people go as far as to act like their said personality type hahahaha.

As for putting your friend on the spot, priceless rofl.

This is going into the faves.

  • Haha. And how can an O like myself be so stubborn and difficult? Isn't that a B trait?

I still like her just the same, even with her mislead views on personality types. Plus it gave me good material for a video!

  • Haha I wouldn't let it affect my friendships either. I guess its just another fun little thing unique to Japan, heck, my family in Mexico likes to rub their sick family with eggs and appearantly its supposed to help them out....weird stuff =P I'm sure the Japanese dont take it THAT seriously to the point they you're crossing swords over opposing blood types xD.

I can see it now...."ur an o?!?! EN GUARDE!"

  • Yeah, it's just another one of those 'things' here.

  • I'm a mutant with superpowers so I don't really fall into the same category as you guys. Don't even know my blood type as my invincibility makes needles break on my skin. Just sayin'...

  • Haha, impressive!

  • my wife was actually surprised that i didn't know my blood type... i vaguely remember there being a "B" in there somewhere. :)

in regards to discrimination, i've read that some japanese employers actually use blood type to determine their workers' job assignments...

  • That wouldn't surprise me.

  • I'm working on creating a new blood type just to throw things off here.. you know... rock the boat a little ;)

Might need your fluid mechanics expertise on this one!

  • You are the fluid mechanic expert! I just know how to blow rupture disks and launch stuff! Well maybe a bit more. I miss having a career and big machines. I don't know if I'm cut out for Japan some days.

  • Big machines, Japan has not. A career, soon you will find!

Until then, keep making cool stuff for us to watch! ;)

  • It has big machines, and if we stay(as if I have a choice!) I plan on going back to them once I'm fluent in Japanese.

I just need a job, gogo cabin fever!

I will continue making videos though! As if I have any other hobbies at the moment!

  • yeah that is pretty retarded. I wander what bright fellow made that up in the 70s

  • Wonder no more. Masahiko Nomi.

  • ahhh

  • I don't know my blood type. I've been asked so many times... I get the strangest looks... "What?? how is it possible that you don't know!?!" gey!

  • Its only annoying if people take it really seriously and believe it as a fact. Astrology can be some fun though.

  • Whenever someone asks me what star sign I am I always lie and when they say "Yeah thats just you" I always smile :)

    lesson learnt: don't trust racists.

    peace out.

  • Yeah I knew that. I noticed while I was there that on TV shows with music artists it always said their blood type. I was like wtf?

  • i agree with everything you said dude.

and wow blood type personality's LOL FAIL!

    5/5 xP

  • Hey man, I get it, but trust me, understanding how it all works opens doors to conversations with many fair members of the opposite gender. Early on when I didn't know or care about this, I would respond by insisting that I was type C, and that it existed overseas but not in japan. Remember, even though it's crap, it's probably the best icebreaker you can use in Japan.

    Peace

  • Good thing I'm married! Allows me to go on being my normal skeptic self! Good advice for anyone on the prowl though.

  • Blood Type Evolution... O came 1st , then B, Then A, Then Ab.. so maybe something to be said for that.. Watch & Learn :)

  • When I tell people what my blood type is, the nod and say it fits me... or I fit it. Either way, if they feel they can derive some sort of information from knowing, more power to them.

I thought about making a shirt that says my blood type..

  • It bothers me to know people are making life choices based on pseudoscience though. For example one of my friends refuses to date B type people. I wonder how many possible partners she has missed out on because of this. But then again, not my problem.

  • Masahiko Nomi was a nut. Bloodtype personality stuff is nonsense, but whenever I am asked about my type, I ask them first what theirs is and then give the ideal response. Hehehe.

  • I agree, unfortunately people took his writing to be science, when it is anything but. I'm think I'm just going to tell people I don't know what my blood type is just to prevent myself from starting arguments.

  • hahah shit, whats my blood type?

  • I don't know Eyobe1, maybe ob?

    My jokes are lame.

  • yay!

  • wow thats pretty crazy.

  • I enraged one of the programmers at my old job by pretending I thought astrology might have some credibility. It was funny.

  • yes I agree, astrology is for the insane.

  • That's milder than I generally put it.
