  • That's the right description of my flightplan with my ginger angel. I love you my peppermint patty, wherever you are in the universe. This song is in your memorial.

  • Amazing voice, brilliant song.

  • ooo que emoción! :O es increíble su voz... la amo! :´D

  • Donna Summer "The Disco Queen" at her best in the hey days of her years, even a fan or not she is part of music history as "The Disco Queen".

  • Ah....gorgeous!

  • I heard this song when I was 17 in 1999, Donna Summer has some Jams!

  • I have LOVED Donna since 1976, I was 12!!!..and this is by far probably my most favorite song of all by her...I've seen her live in concert over the past 15 years and she STILL sings like no one else!!!!! seeing her live last August here in Atlanta was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE this post, thanks so much!!!!!...a very rare performance of this song!!!!!!!!!!

  • Too good!

  • too bad she never thanks her fans!!! selfish says she didnt like gays! they made her famous like gaga!! she needs to look back and say, wow if it wasnt for gays! who would have bought my music?????????????????/

  • @madonnarules Know what your talking about first, she has through the years thanked her fans in magazines like The Advocate, and Genre. Further her song, Friends Unkown, says like no other artist has ever done.

As for Madonna Rules, PLEASE !, Madonna is NOTHING !

  • This is an amazing video! Yes, VERY rare indeed. I had never seen it until now. Brings back so many memories from that wonderful Disco time when I was living in NYC and dancing my booty off! Thanks for posting this gem from the past.

  • TGIF one of my #1 all time fave movies up there with The Chicken Chronicles man where did the time go...I will always love Disco & Rock for Ever!!!

    Cheers

    Mr. Chip's

  • How many singers today, aside from Jennifer Hudson, could sing this song LIVE without backing track? Most just lip-sync and mime to a track. Donna proves here once again that she is a peerles SINGER of the first order. I saw this as a kid when it first aired on TV and still sounds as fresh today as it did over 30 yrs ago!

  • the queen!

  • 'AYE, SHE'S A RARE CHANTER' as some people in Glasgow might say

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

  • my favorite song from donna- along with the double 1977 album Once Upon A Time..to listen to the album is timeless..Donna and Georgio were ahead of the time..

  • i love you to babe

  • It's tragic that the effects of thinly veiled racism (disco sucks) and lies (anti-gay comment which the SF Gay press had dismissed as untrue) impacted her career! Really sad because she continued to record some incredibly great albums!

  • @1146beaver it really didnt impact her career....she continued making hit records into the 80s...

  • I remember seeing this' first run'. She really was wonderful!

  • donna set the stage for a lot of singers, whiteny(powerful voice) mariah(song writing) Idont see where madonna would fall into this at all!

  • @kamimura73

actually it's not obvious but madonna did benefit greatly from donna's career. you must remember that donna broke alot of ground. she really was the first of her kind in pop music field. she had the first all-electronic hit with "i feel love". she was the first african american female to win a grammy in the rock category. she dressed in lingerie for her "bad girls" album in '78. her first hit was banned by alot of stations for its overt sexuality. she WAS the madonna of the 70's.

  • @craybee06

1983's "unconditional love" tanked donna's career with that reggae, afro centric sound and she never recovered from it. a few months later during late 1983 madonna emerged.

  • These were the days....thanks for uploading this song/video. This was always my favorite Summer song and this is the best live performance of it I've seen.

  • Love it! Haven't heard this since I was a teenager. Thanks so much for posting. I loved her opening, spoken recitative. Donna TOTALLY set the stage for Madonna and Whitney. M for killer club music which wasn't averse to story songs. Whit as mega singer who combines Gospel and Opera. And, to this day, I'm not sure either could seriously hold the stage with Ms. Summer.

  • hi donna! greetings from mexico! I love you!

  • GREAT!

  • I love this song.... I really do!!! TY for posting :)

  • Donna - I love you!

  • Is it me or does she look like Kim Wayans

  • @spirit69warrior Actually, if there is a resemblance, Ms. Wayans would look like Ms. Summer.

  • @spirit69warrior Not one bit...

  • Thanks for posting this....this was always my favorite Donna Summer song. YouTube is something else. How else would could you see such an old clip? lol

  • My all-time favorite Donna Summer song. I just saw her at the Hollywood Bowl. I wish she would have sang this! Thanks for posting!!

  • A person had to be there when this albunm came out, to really appreciate the excitement of the era. This IS DISCO! Donna was (and still is) the bomb!

I was there - I remember. Thanks for posting.

  • i love this album. when she says, she means it!

  • Flawless, simply flawless. I miss singers like this. Today they have to have fifty dancers on the stage and the lead singer is doing hardly any singing. Video not only killed the radio star. Video killed the music industry and downloading of music nailed the coffin shut. Well we got it quicker, faster and lost a lot with the technology.

  • @antoineporche I agree with you about the singers today having to dance when, sometimes, all we want them to do is SING THE SONG. And DS is one of the real and great singers. I think YouTube may help us get back to real singers because when a singer posts something on here live, you can tell if they're lip synch-ing because they DO NOT have fifty dancers behind them.

  • My favorite song of hers along with MacArthur Park. So beautiful, powerful, and pleasant-sounding. Thanks for putting this one up!

  • This one of my very favorite Summer songs, and was fortunate enough to see her perform this live at Wolftrap a couple of years ago( her voice was still unbelievable strong, just unreal), but I always wondered if this performance on Carson was lip sinked or live. Her mouth forms every word perfectly, but her pitch sounds almost to perfect to be live. If this is live, then she truly is a gift from Heaven.

  • Donna Summer is and always will be the Queen of Disco..........I LOVE YOU DONNA!

  • Luv ya Donna!!! Please, please give us something new in 2010.

  • This is Donna at her best. Had this on single in 1977, and on cd today.

When are they going to re-release Once upon a time... remastered?

  • How about it Bro,Once upon a time is is the BEST!

  • I love this tune

  • Still a great song after all these years.

  • she s so pretty, she looks like a black barbie dolly, her face was perfect

  • One of the reasons this sounds so good is Donna's sisters, Dara and Mary, singing backup. Check out their sweet harmony with Donna when she holds the final note, my God is that beautiful.

  • This is pure singing. Donna sang LIVE, she always sang live these days and she always will.

OMG Donna has always impressed me in that her face and jaw are SO relaxed when she sings, even the highest notes. It's as if that high belting is just her naturally singing, which it really is... it's just part of what she did, she just emoted and emoted and it was just fantastic.

These days, singers don't really sing, they do all this runny shit that doesn't show offf their voices at all.

  • This is one of my favorite Donna Summer songs and this footage is a gem,I was born in 75 and I happen 2 be queer and will love Donna 4ever!!! I feel alot of whats been expressed on this page ! i truly LOVE U !

  • omg...while a small skip in the middle, this is great... with Johnny who is no longer with us... Thanks for posting!!!!

  • One of my favorite Donna Summer songs. Should have been a #1 song for the queen of disco.

  • it wasn't? as nice as it was, i love this song!

  • It peaked at #36 in the US, although it went Top 10 in the UK. It did have the distinction of being the only her 3rd Top 40 single in the US though, and the 1st to use her full voice instead of the falsetto she used on her early albums. This was the first song of her's that caught my ear, and it's still a favorite.

  • wow, thanks for the history on this song, it's really cute, it caught my ear too :-)

  • Purely awesome!!!

  • Bravo LaDonna!

Good to see - this is one of my favorites.

    She's the best.

  • Love this Song!!

  • me 2!!

  • My favorite Donna Summer songs!!! and she's really singing and sounding just like the record. you gotta love this. this gets saved,,, Thanks for the post.

  • This is such an awesome tune!

  • And no lipsyncing!

All those nontalented idiots: take note

  • Now here's a true diva, eat your hearts out all you so-called-diva's (Beyonce,Aguilera, and all you other note bending puppets who think that singing the way they do is soulful..learn to sing a straight note first, maybe the soul will come later..MAYBE!!)

Now THIS lady CAN sing a note without bending it a million times per second and still have soul, now that's SINGING!!!

  • I love a good vocal twist as much as anyone else, but I have to say that I totally agree with you on this one! It's not always what you put out there, but what you without that is the most seductive (just like sex and a lot of other great things in life). Donna was a master of this technique, and with every bit as much soul!

  • @jkj10 I agree with you for the most part (Massive Donna fan here.) However, you may want to check out Aguilera covering Nina Simone's take on "I Loves You Porgy." I think she may be the real deal, with the potential to become a great singer like Ms. Summer.

  • @lokijordan :I'm not saying some of today's stars can't sing (cuz Aguilera can sing,I now that.),it's just the way they 'act' when they are singing..All the note-bending,not to mention those hands moving along with all those bent notes trying to accentuate the 'soul' they believe they have..Not Donna though,or many other of the 'older' singers, her voice alone is good enough..And,like Strongdr said, less is more..

  • @lokijordan Christina screams and screeches to much to be considered a great singer. She needs to tone it down a lot but she thinks vocal gymnastics equal soulful singing. It doesn't. Just once i'd like to see her sing a song without bending every other note.

  • @dsfddsgh I'm so happy to see others agree with this, cuz these days you start to think that this is the way in the future for soulsingers to sing. But have a good look (listen) to the 'old' (in my ears/eyes,they are timeless),classic soul singers..Gladys,Aretha,yes Donna is up there too,and many others, they didn't need to over-do their performances with notebending and over-the-top hand moves, cuz they all knew they had one thing going for them..a true SOUL voice..

    cheers dsfddsgh and discovery781

  • @jkj10 well said

  • She makes singing seem so effortless. Projection of her voice is so strong without haveing to scream the song. thank you for posting.

  • She drives me fucking nuts. I wish I knew just one person besides me who goes as nuts over her as I do.

  • You found one!!! She takes me back to a period of my childhood that I long to relive. There are many songs of the 70's that do that, but ALL of Donna's take me there. Sometimes I just can't get enough and I listen over and over and voer...and over and over...and then some more. I said it before, but I'm captivated how a simple song can instantly transport your mind, body, and spirit to a different time and place. God bless the true artists that know how to satisfy the crazies like us.

  • You found another!

  • PUT ME IN THAT COLUMN!

  • Count me crazy. I have loved her for over 32 years!

  • You are not crazy I have loved Donna since 1976, I was just a kid and I'm now a 43 year old gay man and I will always love Donna Summer and we are not crazy! We are fans of good music. Thanks for your post! Enjoy a little Summer Music!

  • tld818, you must be my twin, LOL. I'm also a gay and 43, and have loved Donna since '76. I remember when I started high school in the fall of 1979, and everyone was starting with the whole "disco sucks" nonsense. This music will always be awesome.

No, you're not crazy. You just have impeccable taste.

  • Each time I watch this I'm reminded how incredible Ms. Summer was back in the day. She was the hottest female vocalist of her era. A true gem.

  • God,that woman can SANG!

  • FANTASTIC...no one today compares to her!!!

  • I love you TOO

  • Donna rules! :) Disco lives on!

  • I was 17 when this song came out and I just loved it back then. People like to slam on disco now but it was awesome and fun music then and I still dig some of the songs now.
