I don't know if it's John or Scott, but all I hear is "We need a new cab. This one is getting us lost. We're gonna come in last, etc." Then I hear from the same guy "STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE!" Really? He hasn't said A THING. You've been the one suggesting negative ideas, and just because he doesn't answer HE'S being the negative one?
Why is that the old folks always miss clue-box way more times than the youngsters. With the admitted slow'n'steady approach you would backed them over a younger team to see it.
@torpedofish Maybe, but I think that it's pronounced more like "San"; the Portuguese language is spelt in a unique way. Among the "Romance" languages, it's nearly as far from the old Latin as Roumanian.
@KaptKan1 I had a roommate from Brasil, and if someone said it like "san" he would always correct them. Sometimes it can sound like that to the western ear I think because we have certain expectations, if that makes sense.
@torpedofish Thanks for the correction. Speaking a wee bit of Spanish as I do, I probably don't pick up on the differences as I'm straining so hard to hear the similarities. It's fun to see these teams that speak Spanish doing so well in Brasil, anyway. Portuguese speakers can almost always understand Spanish, but it doesn't work the other way round for some reason.
Anyway, it would be so cool to take that chopper ride over Sao Paolo, however it's pronounced, no?!
@KaptKan1 I'm Portuguese and study languages. According to a teacher of mine the reason why it is more difficult for Spanish speakers to understand Portuguese than vice versa is because Portuguese has a few vowel sounds that Spanish lacks. Mainly closed vowels.
@KaptKan1 I'm Portuguese and the reason why its harder for Spanish speakers to understand us than the other way around is because while in terms of grammar and vocabulary they are very similar, Portuguese phonology is much harder than Spanish and it's closer to French or Catalan. For example, Portuguese from Portugal has 9 vowels, and Spanish has only 5 simple vowels.
@patisabel2 I studied Romanian for a year, had Latin in highschool. I can understand Spanish a little bit, and I can understand Italian a little bit more, but when I hear Portugese, I don't understand a thing. When I read it, I understand a little, but it sounds so different than the other Latin languages.
No way! Being in a race doesn't mean that being the fastest or strongest will win. The elderly may not have their youthful energy anymore, but they have plenty of experience. And in some challenges, that may be much more advantageous than speed or brute strength!
@whipwhip: You're right. I don't know why people gave you the thumbs down for your comments. I can't believe people actually think that the seniors have a chance because of their having plenty of life experience. If they watched all seasons of Amazing race, they wouldn't say that anymore.
@tinjmail I'm not surprised about the thumbs down. I'm just being true and sincere to myself and my opinions. And not being a hypocrite. If I offended many people here, then my apology.
The second time the cluebox was right in front of them! They remind me of my grandparents. Sometimes, they have a hard time figuring out the most simple things.
I admit Fran and Barry are no Merideth and Gretchen but they are still a very good team. I also like the hippies and frat-boys...they seem to have the right attitude to the race.
This old couple is not as good as Meredith and Gretchen from the 7th season. And the nerd couple is too sweet for my taste. So far I am with the hippies

Shouldn't Amazing Race not include elderly people? Like Seriously.. They aren't gonna win anyway.
