Takes place in the future, actually. The stars are the descendants of the original cast. I lost the link, but you can look up the official article on Nintendo's website. It might be easier though just to link to it from the Wikipedia article.

It seems as though the game takes place after the rise of the Golden sun and the New age of Alchemy that tigers an enormous rise in technological and scientific advance. As civilizations seem to develop new threats arise.

I think the Descendants of the original main characters are the new heroes. I wonder if Alex survived the fall of Mt. Aleph and if he did he must still have the power of the golden sun, maybe he is one of the new threats. With so much power he may have survived, Speculative...

@ssj9cloud Yes, you play the game with the offspring of the main characters from the original 2 games. Or at least 1 of them is a child/grandchild of the former main cast.

Also, the title of the DS game would first be something like 'Alex strikes back', but they dropped that later.

@supermario2084 Turns out it's supposed to take place thirty years later. There's a few discrepancies because the characters look IDENTICAL to Issac Mia and Garret, but the names are all changed and they always talk about "A new generation stepping up." I believe they are new characters.

In better response, because it is on a different platform, Camelot wants to appeal to new gamers, not just the old ones. I'm pretty sure the plot will be somewhat different but for sure contain old elements.

There was a time when my family and I were on a journey, we traveled in the morning filled with fog, through the trees we went and reached a cliff. I could see fields below filled with clouds going up the mountain, and the grass was alive, as thogh joyous of the occasion. Later as we came back from the trip, the sun was setting and clouds were at mid with the mountains, the sun as it went down made the droplets give way to a wonderful streak of colors, more beautiful than a rainbow.
