Hi, my question is more of a cultural one than a language one, but do people still bow to each other in japan as a sign of greeting ? (or did they ever ?) Is this something that is only for formal occasions or just in the movies ?

@yeeyoh Japanese keep bowing all the time, so it's not just formal occasions or the movies.

@yeeyoh Bowing is such an important part of the greeting and has many contexts, like greeting in the west with hands. The lower you bow, the more formal it is. (they even have like what degrees you should bow in order to convey x level of formality)

If I have one in the back of my van and we're in a place where I don't want people hearing, I'll stick a towel soaked in Shochu in their mouth and duct tape it shut. But if it's just a run of the mill date rape at a love hotel or karaoke box after a nomikai, yeah, the high pitched stuff comes out.

Thanks for the lessons. I just started learning japanese(on my own) like 2 weeks ago. I've already learned hiragana and will soon be going on to katakana and kanji. It was cool having you post the characters thoughout the video cause I could actually real some of them.....even though i have no idea what they mean. At least i can read it, so thanx.
