  • dat bitch got robot armz... jk. sick version. much sadder than the original.

  • Marvelous!!

  • she's one of THE best interpreters of songs and makes everything her own!!!!!!

  • I LOVE the use of squeaky toys for birds chirping. I LOVE all their unconventional sound makers...awesome.

  • Excelent rendition, I'm sure Neil has heard it and gave his approval. It's creative, provocative, moving, colorful. All the qualities of great musicians.

  • puta que pariu

  • This the most beautiful peace of music i'v heard.

  • I like the way they were making the bird sounds also.

  • that is my first name and last name:-)

  • The entrance song to heaven

  • Watch

  • one of the giving-life-a-meaning songs..

  • how come someone not like this amazing song?

  • This is now our song. Should have played it at our wedding, but didn't discover it in time. Perfect.

  • Only Cassandra Wilson can take a song like Neil Young's Harvest Moon and sing it like it was meant to be her song. How does one do that? Just ask Cassandra. Thumbs UP and THEN SOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Cassandra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

  • such an amazingly smooth, subtle voice, truly stunning- but sorry, neil youngs version is my idea of heaven :)

  • whoah didnt expect that voice very nice ...

  • just beauty

  • nice. only thing, I wasn't crazy about the squeaky toy sounds. I'm all about some ambient noises but that didn't seem to fit, in my humble opinion.

  • @jumeau1 parfaitement raison, on pourrait faire sans; mais c'était - et ca l'est toujours dans le weird folk - fashionable - je déteste

  • @jumeau1 --the squeaky noises weren't too bad an imitation of bats hunting.

  • Wow

I felt quite reluctant to listen to this take on Neils vibe, though I want to thank you for keeping it pure without losing it's integrity & and I do feel Cassandra has done the song great justice.

A new found level of respect for Cassandra Wilson.

    Lovely, thank you so much.

  • This is how we all feel like when we live life from our HEARTS. Beautiful.

  • amazing recording quality although the video sucks, i'm listening with sennheiser hd600 and i'm amazed

  • I want to go sit in a bar, dinking and listening to this song!

  • Saw her in Denver if she is ever in your area do yourself a favor!

  • I want that guitar...

  • @JohanSebastianCruyff a dobro hahaha pretty

  • Outstanding voice and atmosphere!

She does this as a person recalling a lost love, and wishing.

Neil Young does it as a celebration of two people that have been together for years and are still deeply in love.

I like both versions, but Neil has my vote as I am in that stage of my life.

  • @Crusty727 I will use your quote on face book, my centime's the same, tomorrow is my 30th year anniversary...thanks Niko.

  • Quanta bellezza...

  • "I'm always imagining some sort of story behind the song, even the ones I haven't written. I'm actively engaging in playacting." ~ Cassandra Wilson #quotes @CarmaDillon

  • This is what it would sound like if you were floating on a cloud with no musical direction. Even though it's a beautiful characteristic song/melody, this ends up just floating/flying. Weak.

  • beautiful

  • i cried when i first heard it, such a sweet song ^^

  • I hear ya loud and clear Cassandra... "You can't be contentious and make love all at the same time. Which would you rather do!?!" Thanks for posting Rodehihi. Good to see someone else that enjoy the heart and soul of real musicians.

  • @gentleall I'd rather be contentious. Contentious is forever, making love is transitory.

  • Can anyone tell me who the slide guitar player is? I've seen him in a couple different performances of different artists, and I think he's amazing!

  • @AbmyMINOR I was sure that his name is Marvin Swell.

  • @Rodehihi Marvin Sewell

  • @Rodehihi

    His second name is Sewell...

  • Kevin Breit, probably...

  • @AbmyMINOR The guitarist is Brandon Ross

  • @ohfiveseventy no, the guitarrist is Marvin Sewell

  • @AbmyMINOR Actually, I think the last name is Sewell

  • @AbmyMINOR marvin sewell

  • they could have done this song so much better.

  • @mindhwhanna How could they have performed this song better in your opinion?

  • When a friend played this album in the mid 90s I had to know who this was. I have remained captivated by this woman from then on.

  • She's a goddess.

  • She is too good!!

  • Un bloody believable, to good to be real.

  • Esse vídeo foi enviado pra mim por meu amor, e foi ele que trouxe a flecha do cupido que atingiu meu coração...!

  • This is what it would sound like if I were floating on a cloud with not one concern or worry in my heart

  • @Guanajuatoeddie

I have felt that way before. Bliss.

  • this song prys my senses away from reality...

  • Neil Young said it was the best cover of one of his songs he had ever heard

  • es preciosa... me encanta y me hace revivir muy buenos momentos... simplemente... es genial

  • Whatta Bird!

  • what the heck were those things making the birdy sounds? I want some!

  • Got any other live video of CW. She's the one. Yeah evocative par excellence!! Anything off Blue Moon Daughter would be fantastic.

  • Great stuff, guitar's very moving.

  • Ah. So beautiful...

  • Good Ole Neil !

  • This thing is addictive. Thank you so very much for posting it. It's downright ethereal.

Cassandra's voice is evocative of so many beautiful emotive qualities that I'm back feeling what I felt when I discovered "love" the very first time. What a rainbow of memory!

  • tears in my eyes

  • this is great music!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I dig it... I dig it deep!

  • thank u very much

  • jesus lord christ! the chords at the end...yeah. who is the guitar player?

  • @duhwhy

    Brandon Ross

  • cool academiks on the moon . there must be sting with her , so soon.

  • How. Beautiful.

  • what a SOUND!!!

  • Somehow loses the essence of the original. Too much mush.

  • Who is the guitar player?

  • @pvdv1466 It's Marvin Sewell. He still tours with her from time to time.

  • @pvdv1466 This song is off New Moon Daughter there were two guitarists on the album both very different, and complementary one was Kevin Breit, who lives in Elora, Ontario, Canada The black rythym guitarist isn't Kevin the slide playing here is in Kevin's style, but I don't know if it is him yet he did some touring with her, also with Nora Jones the thumb close-ups are very "Kevin like" by 5:19 I'd say it's Kevin, to her right if you ever get a chance to see him play, and you like guitar GO!
  • I forgot take the breath...

  • I love you CB

    i m suffering.... a lot...

  • the best dream to have is here

  • Pure Magic.

  • Classy.

  • this is the most lovely thing i have ever heard.

  • beautiful. beautiful.beautiful!!!!

  • The way this is presented, she and her crew basically paint a moving picture as you lay back, close your eyes and just lose yourself in the song. Simply amazing.

  • LOVEly!

  • LOVE

  • wowwow, even better than her album version - thank you for this *fine* post

  • Would help if she let us hear all the words. Can't assume that people will fill in the right words. Otherwise beautiful rendition.

  • Ahhh, so few covers of Neil are good, but this one is great.

  • tried to keep an open mind but no...not into it at all...

  • Neil Young FTW, he inspires so many musicians.

  • WONDERFUL! Her interpretation of this classic and the musical arrangment is GENUIS!! One of my favorite voices...ever.

  • Sorry to expose the king with no clothes but,,,,Nah! you people who compare this to Neil Young or say she rules it are in fact,,,all wrong. sorry I think it stinks

  • i cant breath... this guitar is awsome..

  • Magical things do happen sometimes. It's always nice when it's captured this well.

  • The original was beautiful and has been given a special treatment by one of the best muxical interpreters of our time. I like another poster's comment..."NOT for children..." a truly adult love song.

  • Phenomenal! This is NOT for children. Grown folks only need apply.

  • Had tears in my eyes before the first word.

  • neil young wrote and sang the song

she sang the song last night at monreal jazz festival in slower wersion

  • neil young wrote and sang the song end of 70 tiees

i saw her last night at montreal jazz festival

    i like this version better

  • Magic....I don't know if she wrote it...or her musical director...?

  • I did Cassandra with this song and a spliff and some incredible Haitian rum. A friend of my was working "The Box" a music video show in Miami and brought this for me. A tiny bowl of crippie, a shot of that rum and this song? I will never forget how long it took me to find my body after that.

  • Sublime

  • A++ wonderful. beautiful. so lovely i can't find the words.

  • All I can say one word,Beautiful.

  • This is one of that songs that touches you deep... really really deep....

  • Damn. Ms. Wilson, where have you been? I bet Neil listened to your version and just said one word. " Bitch". What a rendition of this classic. The band performers were point on each note. Finger picking to slide. Great job. Cudo' s to each player. You are what musicians should copy themselves after. Ms. Wilson, your voice is unique, sexy yet rich and strong. I looking forward to more of you. Thank you.

  • ...this is a jazz poem, subtile, timeless... breathing forever!

  • Eu te amo!

" there is no longer the fear of death, for death is no more. You are in everything - more than that, you are everything. And thus you would forever be after this interpretation. I - l-o- v-e-y-o-u.

  • Cassandra and a spliff......ahhhh, Heaven !

    ~be well

  • That guitar intro is just sublime. And how she makes this song her own is uncanny.

  • let's dance.

  • If Cassandra Wilson's singing doesn't reach into your heart and touch something deep inside your soul, you are resisting. I love Neil Young and I love Cassandra Wilson. They are two different artists, that's all.

  • now that's the way.. to pervert and kill the mood, the meaning and warmth of a classic song... only to make it fit in a long drawn out boring style, that shames the original... she's a great singer... but should have picked a more mediocre song to butcher... cause this one means something to me... has she even seen a harvest moon? driving in the fields while the men cut fields in the moonlight? waiting to enjoy the feed when the days work is done? its my opinion only... but shame on her...

  • @SladderBux: you have got to be kidding. Her rendition is utterly gorgeous. She's taken Neil Young's song and given it a completely different spin. I've rarely heard anything so sensual. This performance literally brings tears to my eyes.

  • @LanguorousLass I will offer you the respect that this version has meaning to you.. i mean.. why should i judge.. but to me... this version is like trying to repaint a Divinci... and attempts to make it more powerful a painting from the original.

if you like it, then thats ok.. but to me.. its a very poor attempt at such a beautiful song.. and totally sucks the wind out of it...

  • @SladderBux: Thanks. Let's agree to disagree. Sorry you don't like it.

  • @LanguorousLass

    agreed.

  • @LanguorousLass it's a fine thing when two can agree on something and find some common ground.. now lets work on the gaza strip... i have half a roll of scotch tape, if you have some cardboard layiing around.. im shure we can end that conflict also...

  • You missed it all. This is the way a real woman interprets that beautiful song. And the musicianship is so profound I guess it all just went over your head. So take note. This is making love. All of making love. There is a vast difference between making love and screwing. If you want to take her out of body and make her remember you forever, listen and learn. Slow baby. Real slow and easy. Be in the moment with it.

  • Beautiful rendition of a classic, the intro was excellent, as a guitar player I think the more you can make a cover 'your own' the better

  • that little key trick does wonders for me. instantly takes me back to childhood, trying to find mom in the grocery store et al.

  • Oh, the mood....beautifully woven, it just melts all over you if you sit with it and let it take you away. Cinamatography for the ears. I have no doubt Neil would be proud to hear his song done with such sensitivity and sensuality. Awesome.

  • What's that weird instrument at 3.10?

  • great arrangement!!! damn its beautiful...thanx for for posting this tune..... and yes,,,i still like neil's arrangement as well!

  • I love both versions. While somebody called the intro pretentious, as a musician, I call it absolutely brilliant. When I first heard it, I had a tiny bowl of some very special hydroponic and I floated right out of the world on her voice and this music. The bowed bass and guitar are just perfect!!!!

  • @tommy1991dcfc you apparently need to get some new speakers and a heart. also, might want to look up the word pretentious before you use it again so as to avoid looking stupid.

  • This is a tribute to Neil's genius but she has to speed it up a bit.

  • Neil Young puts her to shame !

  • ... come rendere noiosa una bella canzone!

  • DIVINO

  • é a coisa mais linda que eu já ouvi.

  • I don't totally agree with you, though I quite agree with you on your comments on this partcular song.

No one can deny that her reinterpretations have a lot of originality. If neil young were to cover a cassandra wilson song he'd probaby sing it the way he sings all his other songs and not the way cassandra wilson wold sing, and neil young too is quite repitetive.

Her cover of I cant stand the rain is simply brilliant, so don't say that she interprets every song the same way

  • her blues marker is at our school

  • i prefer this version much better than neil young's. it's so atmospheric and open. love it. and cassandra's voice is much more rich...but i guess it's all in what you like. i love this shit. for the instrumentalist to be able to play it like it's studio and to be so calm and allow the feel to just go out into the audience...loves it

  • she kill it neil voice is gold

  • Become a fan of Cassandra on Facebook!

  • Beautiful cover. I love the Neil Young version, but this is very cool too.

  • When we were strangers I watched you from afar When we were lovers I loved you with all my heart. But now its gettin late And the moon is climbin high I want to celebrate See it shinin in your eye. Because Im still in love with you I want to see you dance again Because Im still in love with you On this harvest moon
  • @sweetheart7394 when love is peaceful like this...

thats all I'm gonna say :-)

  • Come a little bit closer Hear what I have to say Just like children sleepin We could dream this night away. But theres a full moon risin Lets go dancin in the light We know where the musics playin Lets go out and feel the night. Because Im still in love with you I want to see you dance again Because Im still in love with you On this harvest moon.
  • That was so beautiful!!

  • I also agree with Kajwilhelm... I just don't get the same depth of emotion fro Cassandra as I get from Neil. She's certainly a good singer, but this is one of those songs where the original is just so powerful that any other version just seems to miss the mark, at least for me.

  • I love Cassandra Wilson and will finally get the chance to see her live in Chicago during the Hyde Park Jazz festival...VIP seats!! Beans n Rice for two weeks but she's worth it!

  • BRILLIANT ! A+.

  • amazing...

  • HOLY CRAP, I'm trying to find some music for a project and came across this!!!!

    WOW, simply beautiful!!!

I always loved this song as sung by Neil Young but DAMN!

  • ela é doce como o mel...

  • Comment removed

  • Dulce como la miel.

  • Just spent seven minutes in Heaven.

Still got goosebumps down my arms.

  • Absolute magic, incredible percussion....beauty abounds....

  • i thought that was a man singin but kudos to cassandra for tryin but next time leave it to neil to do it RIGHT

  • sorry starr522, this is not a neil diamond song

ths is a great song from neil young

    peace

  • sorr about that lol Didn t mean Diamond. Sweet Caroline musta been on my mind

  • Real Cassandra!

  • those were the easiests seven minutes ever.

  • omfg where has this young lady been. While I m certainly not a big Neil Diamond fan, I do love the hell out of this song.I keep coming back to listen to Diamod s version and saw this version, Thought I d give it a listen. Gave this old 63 year old burnt out white man goose bumps. The arrangement ws great, the musicians awsome, the voice fantastic. I would pay to see and hear this group and Ms Wilson.

  • I remeber when I first hear this song. It was covered by a korean girl by the name of Yozoh. And shortly after that... like a few weeks later, I had my radio on Jazz FM, and I was sleeping and then second I heard "but there is a full moon rising" I instantly came out of my deep sleep and I simply enjoyed it as I was sleeping. I felt a feeling that i've never felt in my entire life. What her voice does to me is inexplicable. Beautiful woman, beautiful voice, wonderful rendition.

  • well put Blues'n Swing!! it's Young's song and Wilson paid respect with this fresh and original rendition and THAT'S a feat, for any true artist

  • As with every single other Youtube video in existence, there is a ridiculously stupid argument in the comments section. Who cares whether one person likes Neil Young's version better and someone else prefers Cassandra's? Apples and oranges. This song is a gift to the world. It's mature, inspiring, unique, and makes people believe in love.

  • Yeah, I'm a huge Neil fan going back to the days when he was really, truly young. But I can enjoy this unique interpretation of Harvest Moon.

  • I think I prefer Neil's version, but this one's nice too. In the end it's a matter of taste, and I tend to prefer rock/singer-songwriter music to jazz.

  • невероятно....

  • Beautifullllll!

  • this was 1997 in stuttgart, the jazz open, i was there...thankx for the clip

  • OMG! She's killing the song. Take this crap off. Neil forever!

  • OMG, you are killing yourself with that kind of attitude. What are you, one of those idiots that wants everything stay the same as it ever was? Never change one darn' thing in redneck heaven? I really like the original of neill young, but this is also a wonderfull version. Different, but it has a pureness that makes you understand how brilliant this song is ... this version or the original. And she sings in tune, something Neill was never capable off (in a great way though ;o)

  • natteaap...I believe you misspoke..Neil is not a red-neck...I certainly agree with the rest of your content here. This is an absolutely gorgeous rendition...Peace

  • If you read that I said, Neil is a redneck, then I must apologize. I never meant to call Neil a red-neck. I did not even want to call Singi69 a red-neck, I just wanted to say ... if ... or ask him the question if he was ... But I don't want to call anybody a red-neck ... unless you are off course.
