It's not all that bad. It's like most anything else with games, just practice & memorization. As far as scoring well goes, it can be more difficult than something like Rock Band because it's not a matter of hit or miss (And Rock Band/Guitar Hero have a pretty generous window). Here it's if you hit, and how accurately you hit as well. The plus side is that leaves more room for improvement because 2 100% hit scores can end up being very different.
