If you need direction control while rocket jumping, I recommend jumpcrouch while going sideways. It's a lot faster but extremely harder.

It's a bit more effective to rocket jump if you shoot at the floor, jump and crouch in .1 seconds. This time is even shorter if you use the Liberty Launcher or Direct Hit, where the rocket flies faster

The reason why you can jump and crouch after you shoot at the floor is because it takes the rocket a very small amount of time to go from your rocket launcher to the ground.

You also need to consider that firing straight down will send you to the left because your rocket starts from the right.

Just to let you know, not everyone plays jump maps. Even in normal maps there are other types of rocket jumps you should add: There is the short jump, long jump and the wall jump (i think it is called this)

@rfrakctured actually, there is. the DH shoots slightly faster making soldiers need better timing. Also, with its lessened blast radius, it needs much more precision when doing multi rocket jumps over long distances.

@philyisjones Apparently you didn't read my previous comment. You are right that the timing is different, but there is NO difference in the damage you take from your own rockets, and there is no difference in the splash radius for said self-damage.

Everyone should know how to do the first 2 techniques, they are easy. And Wall Climb can't really be used on normal maps, you just don't have enough health.

If you are good at it, it should be one motion. Wall climbing is usually best if you hold the button down. The fire rate usually goes along with the speed reduction.
