The second scene text is defective. In the second scene Billy didn't want to ask for candy. He was conditioned against asking, not wanting.

Isn't that a little bit simple for a first take on operant conditioning ? What about discriminative stimuli, negative reinforcement of alternative behaviours following punishment, etc ..... ?
