My two grand moms (dad and mom's side) who stay in Limpopo in what you can call the most rural of south africa, now have electricity and a tap of running water in their back yard.
I don't know how rural Limpopo is since I haven't been there specificially, but I know the rural areas of Kwazulu around Newcastle,Ulundi, Ladysmith etc,where my folks are from. But during a recent road trip I've seen a huge difference in the number of homes with elec. and water as oppossed to a few decades ago. Major difference. I recall the days of kerosene lamps and pumping wells. Many still live that way.

ah, excuse me, but what do you mean not sure about that one, the US. There are people who live dirt poor in the UNITED STATES of America with no running water or electricity. They live in the urban cities and especially in the south. Life in Limpopo can be of a higher standard than for some living in the backwoods of Texas, Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama. You can't even walk down the street of any urban city w/o stepping over plenty of homeless people who have nothing.
