@roflmeidleme no, you can switch to manual focus. On some lenses you can hear the focus ring moving though. This camera has great video potential, but the audio is really bad.
I have a question!! Please respond to it. I hope you will. I have that camera. After I use 720p and high resolutio, the video is not comparable to yours. I have noise, colors are not so awesome... why? Did you use some kind of a program or filters on top? Pictures are fine. I hope it's not a "bad camera". I've bought it in bestbuy.
one thing i've noticed about the nikon digital cameras is that the brightness in the video footage fluctuates quite noticebly. from the cheaper to the high end ones. maybe they all have some common mechanics or something, but I think this should be fixed in their higher end cams. it just flucuates too much to be considered good footage. i've seen footage in sonys new DSC-H20 and this doesnt seem to be an issue. i don't normally buy sony products unless i have to their cams are fantastic.
you can actually hold a AE lock button that will stop the fluctuating light. But most new users don't know that such things exist that's why you see a lot of fluctuating in dslr home videos
It is actually a 5 minute limit per shooting. The issue isn't space, but heat. Assuming this is like what I've read about the D90, the camera will shut itself off or disable the video function to prevent damage from over heating.
I have a Cavalier just like that! These two are so cute!

does the lack of a
sensor that shuts off the screen when you take your eye to the
viewfinder bothers you, and if it does, how badly?
Thanks in advance!
