That it is. The most popular version was done by Rosemary Clooney in 1954. This lyric was written for another physician for our medical society show last year.
government healthcare is not a bod idea, hmo's are evil. i live in canada and you suckers are blind, if i get sick, i pay nothing, if i get hurt i pay nothing and i get workers compensation. read the facts. and for gods sake, switch over to the metric system already, the dark ages are over if you hadnt noticed
I hate to be the grammar police, but in addition to the spelling (which I tend to excuse as I am a poor typist), you've got an odd notion of the use of the apostrophe. You use it where it isn't warranted ("hmo's" is a plural and should be simply "hmos") and omit them for possessives (it ought to be "god's") and contractions ("hadn't").
And it would appear to me that your shift key is broken unless you are the incarnation of e e cummings.
As to the substance of your post, do you really believe that gov't healthcare is free? It has a cost to society. Even the messiah Barack Obama cannot conjure up one sixth of the US economy out of thin air. Somebody has to pay for it.
The only debate is whether a scarce resource, be it healthcare or food or housing, is best allocated by free markets or gov't. I believe that markets are better suited to do that job. If the gov't is in charge of healthcare, do you really think it is allocated purely on the basis of the best use?
When the 5 YO daughter of the head of the Canadian Med Assoc had a suspicious xray, he demanded (and got) a CT scan the next day to rule out a malignancy. Are you as well-connected?
If you read more posts, you would see I don't nitpick that stuff in most cases. I think the only other time was a commenter who criticized someone else's spelling or grammar in a post shot through with errors, so I made sure to point out his a few times.
Good job on the apostrophe in your last post. Keep up the good work!
Oh, and did you care to make a substantive comment on my reply? That's why we're here after all.
I've got 20 or so friends from Canada, and they say you're full of crap (at least they have called your stupid claim that Canada has good health coverage to be full of crap). Stay in your own frigged up nation, you destroy yours, we will fight to save ours. The overwhelming fact is that canadians in grave need medically flock the the US to get good health, Americans don't flee to canada, eh? The only good thing in canada is their cheaper prescription pills. Class dismissed.
If you check the comments on my other vids, Mitra is debating in English as a second language and should be cut some slack on his grammar and somewhat repetitive criticism.

If these people should be denied chemotherapy ("squeezed" out of the taxpayers as you so elegantly put it), then in your world they should have told tough luck when they tried to sign up for Medicaid, right?
As far as your earlier accusation that I was "attacking your character", your own intemperate words indict you more than I ever could hope to do.
You've said I was changing the argument. Are there any other points I have failed to address?
And no one here has said every chemo treatment had to be provided for everyone who wanted it. It is the inhumane manner in which these people were treated that is at issue here.
And as far as "signing up" for gov't healthcare, with the current proposals, a lot of people will have no choice if their employer decides to drop coverage, which would be the cheapest thing to do.
By your lack of response, I guess you are backing away from your claim that the Oregon Health Plan is not a gov't-run plan.
As well as your implication that I had made up some imaginary patients who were offered assisted suicide in lieu of advanced treatment.
And you've already used the term "flip flopper" regarding Prof. Hacker's documented statements rather than your favored "filthy liar" which you reserved for me.
Cyrus, this tune takes an appalling real-life situation of gov't-run healthcare combined with the availabilty and encouragement of assisted suicide in a dystopian view of a possible future.
Unless you're buying your own personal policy, an employer could simply elect to drop coverage and you'd be in the "public option" like it or not.
I'm not blaming the gov't for anything in my life (you repeatedly imply that I'm not a very happy person), but your assertion that "government has provided you with everything that you are and know" is staggeringly wrong. Cradle-to-grave nanny state is not what I, or most of my fellow citizens, are interested in.
Ours is a center-right nation. In a survey this spring, 65% of respondents self-identified as moderate (29%), conservative (34%) or libertarian (2%).
In another survey (2004), when given a spectrum of choices, 32% chose one degree of conservative or another vs 23% some type of liberalism. 26% were moderate and 20% were "don't know/hadn't thought".
Has it ever occurred to you that a majority of people in this country do NOT want an increased role for gov't in their lives?
The government is not increasing its role in my life because I will not be signing up for the public option. Really, its that simple to avoid "government intervention."
You just like blaming the government for small problems associated with being alive, even though the government has provided you with everything that you are and know.
Don't want gov't intervention in your life? Don't sign up for the public health option. ITS THAT SIMPLE, FOLKS!
As far as the news reports, it's not just Fox News. (Strange how libs brandish the name like a talisman.)
Try CNN, Catholic News Agency, USA Today, WRAL radio, KATU radio... and that's on the first page of a search.
The point is that gov't-controlled healthcare in a state with an assisted suicide law has an undeniable track record. The song, in an admittedly tongue-in-cheek fashion, merely extrapolates that to gov't-run healthcare writ large.
OK - lets try sticking with the argument for one minute.
Oregon does NOT have "gov't-controlled healthcare." Ergo, anything you are going to say after that IS WRONG. FACT. This is inarguable.
If you feel so bad for the poor chemo guy in Oregon, why don't you tell him that he should have sought health insurance BEFORE he had cancer -- isn't "taking personal responsibility" at the center of the conservative philosophy?
The gov't funded system there is of course gov't controlled. Who else is in charge if not some state agency? But their atrocious behavior in this instance is the point.
Yeah, he should have gotten his own insurance. People make bad choices. But does that excuse the appalling prospect of getting a denial of services letter (happens all the time with any insurer) accompanied by a reminder that assisted suicide is a covered option?
It is undeniably the government -run, government-funded health system that has sent out these letters. It's not a single payer system, but it is a state-run and funded system with a record of offering assisted suicide to cancer patients along with a denial of services. Look it up.
Can you please cite an instance when I have made any sort of personal attack anywhere close to these examples?
And it's incredible how often you purport to know what's going on inside my head! I guess I need another layer of tinfoil in my hat to keep you from stealing my brainwaves.
I have to give Cyrus credit for sheer audacity. Here's the guy that's been asked nicely to tone down the personal attacks and name-calling by several posters, not just me. He complains about me "attacking (his) character" from the guy who has, thus far, used the words: liar (LIAR, actually) dirty liar Woefully Breath-taking Ignoramuses redneck clueless buffoons you deserve to be called names you don't actually care do not deserve to be taken seriously Holy cow, I ran out of room!
This is not a court room cyrusfx. A point of view is ALWAYS valid!!! This is mine: Obama could care less about Americans and their health. He likely does care about money as it means POWER. He's a liar and lost the trust of THINKING Americans. But that's okay with him, because he doesn't like THINKING Americans anyway. Heck, he doesn't even like AMERICA!
well its funny how you refuse to argue any of the actual points im making and instead concentrate on attacking my character, which you know nothing about, btw.
i am interested in debating the facts. you are interested in speculating and ginning up fear for the unknown.
BTW, your point of view IS invalid because it is not supported by factual evidence. It is supported only by your desire for acceptance by "your peers."
I mean, lets look at this video as an example. You are insinuating that because FOX News ran a story about Oregon state government covering assisted suicide, it means Obama is going to kill people by taking over the healthcare industry and screwing it up.
How do you even tie the two together when there is no national assisted suicide law?
I guess BHO didn't get the memo, cyrus, that it's not "an emotional, moral issue when its simply a cost issue" when he promoted himself to being God's partner.
We are Gods partners in matters of life and death. And to think last fall a straightforward query on abortion was "above my pay grade".
I wonder who's name he thinks should be first on the letterhead.
Someone who is impervious to criticism, such as yourself. I've completely debunked ALL aspects of your argument, repeatedly demonstrated you to be a liar (you did that yourself actually), and you're still here like nothing happened.
You are on the losing side of history, my friend. Nobody who has the power to make actual changes is listening to a word your ilk has to say, because your party has proven itself to be untrustworthy over 8 years.
"Woefully Breath-taking Ignoramuses...redneck... clueless buffoons... you deserve to be called names... you don't actually care...do not deserve to be taken seriously...parting from reality...buffering your own precious ego..."
If you honestly feel that the withholding of medical care has no emotional or moral undertones, it will be difficult to have a meaningful discussion. Try raising the persuasiveness of your argument rather than the vitriol in your vocabulary.
We have friends in London....they will only fix ONE eye if you need surgery for both eyes and they have decided to discontinue pain medicine for people with back pain. Our health care has always been determined based on 'Medical Necessity" ...we should Not copy europe and base our care on "cost effectiveness"!!!!
The problem is you're trying to make this an emotional, moral issue when its simply a cost issue, and you know it.
Therefore, you deserve to be called names because you don't actually care about how this situation effects reality. You sir, do not deserve to be taken seriously. I feel bad for the clueless buffoons who do because they are parting from reality.
You only care about buffering your own precious ego, as you apparently have no respect for the truth or reality of the situation.
You know the situation is not that simple. Here's the situation in reality:
A guy who never had health insurance goes to the doctor and finds out he has cancer. He joins a government-sponsored healthcare plan and they deny the costs of his chemo, as would ANY cheapo plan.
Now, I would not be callous enough to immediately follow up that news with news that assisted suicide IS covered, and somehow I doubt that's what actually happened.
If you don't like this, don't move to Oregon! Derr!
You've just hit upon a salient point. Under a federalist system, you CAN move away from a state with crazy assisted suicide laws. In a nationalized healthcare environment, there's no place to go when they come for you with the Kool-Aid.
The Kool Aid reference was not lost on me. You are insinuating that assisted suicide is covered by the federal government and the same thing as being brainwashed by a cult to kill yourself, and you're simply wrong on both accounts.
Nobody is offering suicide as an option to anybody. Just because it is a covered benefit in Oregon DOES NOT mean doctors go around promoting it. WHY would they?
Are you sure you're not the one drinking the Kool Aid? I bet its AM radio-flavored.
No, cyrus, the point is the monstrous callousness of a gov't-run health bureaucracy, while denying coverage (perhaps justifiably) for a treatment offering to help the "patient" commit suicide. If that fits in your moral calculus, I'm afraid we are going to find little to discuss.
OK, so you admitted its perhaps justified that coverage was denied. That part we can agree upon. Any Joe Schmo who doesn't get health insurance until they find out they have cancer will be denied coverage by ANY free or low cost plan. Low cost plans aren't low cost for no reason.
I could compare the cost of an NMDA agonist drug (cheap) to a hemispherectomy (expensive), both are treatments for seizures. Both are solutions to a problem: one is cheap, one is expensive.
If you're the type of retired AM radiobot redneck that loves these "anti-Obama" videos, the government most likely already runs your healthcare. Its called MEDICARE.
Cost of assisted suicide drugs: less than $100.
Cost of chemotherapy drugs: $100 to $10,000
Hmmm.... Any guesses as to why one is covered and the other isn't? Perhaps its that simple?
No, couldn't be that simple, Obama isn't sinister enough in this version of reality.

If you honestly feel that the withholding of medical care has no emotional or moral undertones, it will be difficult to have a meaningful discussion. Try raising the persuasiveness of your argument rather than the vitriol in your vocabulary.
docbeesknees 2 years ago
In the instance described by Mr. Dregs he is comparing two medical procedures, one is expensive and one is cheap.
Without knowing the exact procedures, which one do you think is going to be covered by insurance, the expensive procedure or the cheap procedure?
See, it has nothing to do with emotions and everything to do with fiscal realities.
If you don't want government-covered assisted suicide, don't move to Oregon and I think you'll be O.K., okay?

We have friends in London....they will only fix ONE eye if you need surgery for both eyes and they have decided to discontinue pain medicine for people with back pain. Our health care has always been determined based on 'Medical Necessity" ...we should Not copy europe and base our care on "cost effectiveness"!!!!

Cyrus,
Kindly keep the name-calling and ad hominem attacks to a minimum ("Woefully Breath-taking Ignoramuses")
Has anyone treated you this way in these discussions?
misterdregs 2 years ago
Cyrus,
So you're cool with, "Sorry, we can't approve your chemotherapy and, by the way, if you wanna kill yourself, we'll take care of the cost?"
Dude, I'm glad you're not my (and hopefully anyone's) doctor.
misterdregs 2 years ago

Derr!

Mr. Cyrus,
You've just hit upon a salient point. Under a federalist system, you CAN move away from a state with crazy assisted suicide laws. In a nationalized healthcare environment, there's no place to go when they come for you with the Kool-Aid.
strings1955 2 years ago
1. There is no nationwide assisted suicide law.
2. "Nationalized healthcare" is not the only healthcare option.
3. "Coming at you with the Kool-Aid" is not how assisted suicide works.
If you really do believe the filth you've been spewing, you are a sad, delusional individual.
I would hope most people have enough common sense not to take you seriously.

Mr. Cyrus (hope you noticed I've addressed you as 'Mr.' pretty much thruout),
I'm aware there is no nationwide assisted suicide law. Doing my best to keep that from coming about.
Ditto the realiztion nationalized healthcare is not currently in place. There again, trying my best to keep us from going there.
"Coming at you with the Kool-Aid" was metaphorical reference...Jim Jones thing, etc. Maybe the reference was lost on you.
Finally, with the name calling, I'm done with you here.
strings1955 2 years ago
The Kool Aid reference was not lost on me. You are insinuating that assisted suicide is covered by the federal government and the same thing as being brainwashed by a cult to kill yourself, and you're simply wrong on both accounts.
Nobody is offering suicide as an option to anybody. Just because it is a covered benefit in Oregon DOES NOT mean doctors go around promoting it. WHY would they?
Are you sure you're not the one drinking the Kool Aid? I bet its AM radio-flavored.
cyrusfx1 2 years ago
No, cyrus, the point is the monstrous callousness of a gov't-run health bureaucracy, while denying coverage (perhaps justifiably) for a treatment offering to help the "patient" commit suicide. If that fits in your moral calculus, I'm afraid we are going to find little to discuss.
misterdregs 2 years ago
OK, so you admitted its perhaps justified that coverage was denied. That part we can agree upon. Any Joe Schmo who doesn't get health insurance until they find out they have cancer will be denied coverage by ANY free or low cost plan. Low cost plans aren't low cost for no reason.
I could compare the cost of an NMDA agonist drug (cheap) to a hemispherectomy (expensive), both are treatments for seizures. Both are solutions to a problem: one is cheap, one is expensive.
So what's your point?
cyrusfx1 2 years ago
Well, I messed up. Guess you can't 'video reply' to more than one video at a time.
strings1955 2 years ago
So let me get this straight... Now you're advocating that the government should pay for everybody's chemotherapy?
I thought you preached LESS spending by the government.
So which one is it? You can't have it both ways.
cyrusfx1 2 years ago
Dear Woefully Breath-taking Ignoramuses,
If you're the type of retired AM radiobot redneck that loves these "anti-Obama" videos, the government most likely already runs your healthcare.
