  • this is shit

  • thanks for the awesome lessons....hey come check my songs out

  • hard to dominate this lick but helps a lot..

  • this progression sounds very much like Eric Johnson :D

  • You have to play the living shit out of this lick for a long time to be able to play it really quickly. It sounds amazing once you get there though.

  • i was getting confuse i was playingthe gmajor scale the "other way"

  • i think the best way is first to do some chromatic pattern scale, natural scale(in alternative way and usual way) but playing fast depends upon how u develop from slow so that it will increase cleanness in every notes of guitar.

  • :34 it's the exact solo for Limp Bizkit 'Shotgun'! WoW I didn't know this dude was writing songs for Fred Durst

  • yawn.

  • @ThomasBCullen ur just too good

  • That's merely a minor penatonic scale. Really?

  • Sounds so much like ready made solo :0

  • @DrNowhereman90

AC/DC Back in Black. Hear this in the rhythm of the song.

  • @DrNowhereman90 It is. The idea is to use your own imagination. This is a place to start.

  • i got this by just watching 0:20 to 0:32

  • how many notes shoud we play for each metronome beat?

  • Okay we all new what notes he was playing the first time he played them theres no need to spend ten minutes explaining it

  • TEACHERS ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO MESS UP

  • @TheSonsofHorusx even the Pros mess up LIVE on stage! haha teachers are just normal people that mess up a few notes, but people rarely notice it LOL

  • thanks man

  • That "Movable lick"=Pentatonics...

  • I like how he tells us to use a metronome after fucking the same lick up three times in a row at the end.

  • His voice is BAD ASS.

  • you don't have to do only up and down... economy picking is proven to be faster than alternate.. it just takes more practice to get good at it... picking into each string instead of going around the string and then picking it

  • @RyanMcVicker It might be faster, but it can easily lead to lazier, choppier picking, and even if you're great at it it still sounds less even than alternate picking when moving between strings. I switched back to alternate from economy picking a few months ago and my accuracy AND speed have improved significantly--and it sounds better, too. It really takes more practice to get proficient/fast at ALTERNATE picking than econ, but it's well worth the effort.

  • :P

  • I don't need speed, i've got cannabis right here.... ahh...

  • lol his voice at 0:40

  • @metalupurs123 puberty)

  • @metalupurs123 Lmao, dude I loled so hard when he started talking!

  • this is a classic zakk wylde lick

  • lol he cant even play it at his own supposed fast speed.

    he needs a metronome.

  • @chuckrocks69 true, but that wasnt really the purpose either ;)

  • that less paul makes me wana get my guitar player to have a maximum the hormone jam!

  • lol thats the pentatonic scale jus playing it a different way same notes

  • do you really need the distortion on? lol

  • isnt that half thescale from the solo from seize the day?

  • LMAOL ive already been doing this great lesson tho just doesnt build very much speed

  • It sounds like a chinese song to me lolz!

  • Zakk Wylde lol

  • is this lick forom the end of the solo of the song Rammstein - Weißes Fleich ?

  • who care about speed? some of the best guitarists I know aren't fast players at all but they completely blow your mind.

  • @kermicheo Well, it's always good to have a good library of skills uh(: At least you can play fast to accentuate certain licks at select places!!

  • @kermicheo yeah who cares not being able to play the solos in your favorite songs.

  • @gears900 that's not what I'm saying. you don't need to be incredibly breakwind fast to be able to play pink floyd, the beatles, dire straits, eric clapton, led zeppelin, bb king, acdc, jimi hendrix, srv, jeff beck, etc. my first comment doesn't have anything to do with the lesson. I'm just trying to get more people to understand that instead of hating on it.

  • @kermicheo no you don't need speed, but it's a good thing to have under your belt

  • sounds like Satch's intro from his Rubina.but Satch did it with harmonics

  • oooh your typical pentatonic

  • isnt that zakk wylde's warmup?

  • nice paul

  • haha that just the pentatonic.

  • you know whats crazy? im into pantera heavily and this is the second video i watched and all ready i have seen two licks that are very similar to some of the parts in dimebag darrels solo's. I think this going to help me a lot!! thanks

  • Very nice guitar tone, looks like the "Woman" tone by Eric Clapton. Slash uses this too. It's very warm and it's on the neck pickup with the tone rolled off on a Les Paul.

    Good little video.

  • @lewisduncan93 in the songs 10's and i'm broken by pantera you can clearly here similar licks as well during the solo's

  • new youtube is shite... this video cheered me up:) Thanks Jody :)

  • The half lick is the last part from the Life is a highway solo...! ; )

    Awesome. Thanks : DD

  • thanks man!

this is really helpful and it is a really cool lick

  • Jajajaja se pasan de vergas con este gordo, la neta esta pendejon pero de algo sirve su ejercicio.

  • I wonder why he just didn't re-recorded.

  • this is horrible

  • Cool man! This is really helpful. Thanks, Jody.

  • pretty much an eric johnson lick.

  • its a repeting penatonic scale. hmmm.

  • Everybody makes mistakes!!! Lol.

    Matt.

  • I think HE needs to practice more with his metronome.

  • yeah argus, you're right! its a good pentatonic exercise though...

  • Thank you, Jody. Nice job.

  • im sorry but that made me laugh "real fast...agh"

  • he messed up lol 3:09

  • hahaha, of course Paul Gilbert is in the related videos section..

  • A Complete Custom Electric Guitar has a nice guitar on it

  • thats just a blues variation of an E-major pentatonic scale.

but he has a point, practicing scales like this will definitely help you with speed problems.

  • Gibson tone, great as always

  • Nice job, thx

  • That scale was the very first I learned 25 years ago,its still good..:)

  • ye . same for me :D!

  • 6 note intervals

  • All he is doing is playing the e minor penatonic in four note intervals. After all those years of learning I finally recognize what someone else is actually doing

  • It's actually groups of six. I don't even know what four note interval means. An interval is two notes.

  • That's a great guitar, nice tone too!

  • if you know the e minor penatonic scale this is easy honestly its just the speed building that can e challenging

  • simple but i like it

  • seize the day solo ??

  • I wouldn't say too much about that. If this does resemble the "Seize the Day" solo then that's just saying that your man Synyster Gates doesn't vary much from simple scales in his solos. Since that's all this is.

  • the only fast part of the solo is a pretty simple pentatonic thing.

  • It is basically the same but the one in Seize the Day is in Dm (10-13 fret)....all he does is go down the top half of the pentatonic minor scale.

  • Looks like he slowed down long ago

  • prove it

  • My guitar!

  • Thanx so much! My speed is improving with this excercise!

  • if you can get good on an gibson, then theres really no difference. that just depends on the player.

now think about the tone difference between ibanez and gibson. try getting a good clean sound on an ibanez. much harder than on a gibson. thats why i got an epi.

plus, most metal bands that shred tune down. not only does the floyd rose nut make that harder, but in some cases it even makes it impossible

on top of all that, after comparing even the necks, i prefer my les paul feel to an ibanez feel

  • i really disagree with that i know many guys who play in drop B with floyd rose trems, using ibanez, esp and jacksons. And floyd rose doesnt make it impossible, it makes it better for keeping things in tune.

In terms of necks it really is up to the user, but i think a really thin flat neck is awesome for shredding, like my esp, but gibson especially les paul are more for rock.

In terms of tone, it is all much of a muchness, thats why amps have equalisers.

  • "Fast and sloppy - just the way your mother likes it, Tribek!" - Sean Connery, Celebrity Jeopardy

  • Ah please , shut ur mouth.

You can speed build on each guitar as long as u got the technique.

And the teacher doesnt matter ?

  • Go listen to Eric Clapton, slowhand.

No technical players use Gibsons, they have horrible tone when cranked through Mesas, Line 6's etc. and weight a tonne. Not to mention the necks are poorly finished and fatter than a whale's dick.

Er, the teacher's the most important part?

  • Dude , im almost playing guitar for 10 years now so dont tell me something i already knew.

I got like a Dean dime razorback now and a Dean Baby z,

those are one of the best metal guitars in the whole friggin' world so dont tell me u cant build speed on a friggin'Dimebag darrel guitar

    take care man (:

  • Lol, Line 6's?

Of course, they're just digitally simulating amps. You gotta plug 'em in real tube amps.

  • Ah, the ignorance of guitar youth.

  • WTF? I passed grade 8 last Christmas and am already teaching, and have been accepted into BIMM next year.

  • I INVENTED guitar.

so dont try to school me buddy.

  • I'll bet 10000 that u didn't invent guitar.

  • THEN NOW WE SHALL BATTLE.

  • When djslon707 and Visualundeath meet one another, let's just say HEADS THE FUCK UP! SHIT'S GONNA GET REAL

  • So many notes. SO. MANY. NOTES.

  • prove it

  • why does he have to prove anything?

  • Great little penta run, very Zakk Wylde. Keep rockin:)

  • very creative jody

  • Em pentatonic?

By ending the lick on E it just sounds like it.

  • the 6th of GM is Em...g.a.b.c.d.E,f,g

the Diatonic pattern for the Major is Major,Minor,Minor,Major,Major,Minor,Diminished....therefore the 6th of the GM is Eminor....All Em scales work with Gmajor & vice versa....ex A major 6th =F# therefore F# minor Pentatonic ....that`ll be $14.50 thanks. ................& vice versa.

  • actually, no. Just admired their cool looks. never played a godin.

  • i'm on an ibanez, but i'm on a sem-hollow body.

    ibanez as120

  • this kinda sounds like a buffalo springfield lick

  • This exact lick is in the beggining of the Technical Difficulties Solo by paul gilbert

  • Gibsons and American Strats are far superior to Japanese guitars. You get what you pay for.... By the way Martins are way better than Yamahas and Takanimes.

  • Yeah, thats why guitarists like Vai, Satriani, Gilbert use Ibanez...

  • And Yngwie Malmsteen is faster than all of them and uses Fender, what's your point?

  • malmsteens neck is designed for shred

the scalloped frets help alot, and im guessing he customized his neck shape and width

  • And he is still faster than Vai, Satriani and Gilbert.

I don't care if he dipped his neck in sweet n sour sauce. Any of them can customize their guitar however they want.

Either way, the debate was on brand of guitar, not neck style, etc.

  • yea i know

im just saying generally fenders are designed and noted for the twang they have, and are used for blues and some jazz because of that.

but one of the downsides is that the necks arent usually designed for speed

famous guitarists usually cant be used to compare guitars because we dont know what they did to get their guitars just right

  • Zakk Wylde'ish :)

  • Het, I think this guy got this lick from the song entitled bultaco saturno by paul gilbert..

  • thanks for the lesson:)

  • how does an even number of notes per string make it easier?

  • 1.

    bump

    bump

  • because ur a douche. thats why. maybe u should make ur own videos since ur such a pro. how about i smash my guitar on ur face.

  • Wow...

FleaFlyFL0 was just asking a question.

You took it tooooo far, calm the fuck down

    x.

  • What is wrong with you? I was just asking how having to alternate pick a 2 not per string lick could possibly be easier than a 3 note per string lick economy picked.

There is far more effort from the right and left hands.

  • It doesn't, 3 notes-a-string runs are much easier to alternate pick at speed. For most people anyway. Perhaps the first two idiots to reply to your question only have 2 fingers :D

  • you posted a comment saying "no comment" this is a paradox, and a parody of your own intelligence

  • even if he messed up around 3:10 -> so wtf? he made it finally :)

  • horrible tone

  • well at least he dont sound like a dieing mule calf you soundin like seasame street creepy fuck

  • hey i like your website. :)

  • lol he messed up the fast one like 5 times

  • more practice man......

  • this is a nice little exercise... *hacks away*

  • is that an old LP Std

  • yeah looks like a 70's or 80's models--gibson's shit era.

  • maybe he just doesnt like to play walmart fender's like you ????

  • Les Pauls (Gibsons especially), Fender Strats, are overpriced, I'd never want to pay over a grand for any guitar just because it was 'Made in Amercia'

The Japanese know how to make the best guitars these days.

  • i agree with you man.

  • you may be right but what does that have to do with what he's playing?

    i'm just sayin

  • yea right! you're funny man. hahaha

  • I agree with you, but they are pretty nice guitars.

  • i love Fenders. mine is a red and black strat with a humbucker in the bridge, chrome hardware, and a painted red headstock. all stock! I love to play it. i play jazz, rock, blues, country, classical, gypsy. it does it all!

i bought it for $400. hardly overpriced.

i highly recommend mex fenders. quit bitching about american guitars because we have high value guitars too. I lived in japan for a long time they are great inventors but I really don't like their guitars. tone too thin.

  • You wouldn't tell Satch his tone is too thin would you?

$400 for a genuine American made Strat is pretty cheap though, or do you have a Mexican Strat?

  • of course I wouldn't! that would be rude. I actually like the tone of his Ibanez a little bit, actually. Just don't prefer it!

Yeah, it's actually Mexican. one of the best strats I've ever played, though I may be biased because it's my baby.

  • I've got nothing against Strats in the slightest, I just object to any guitar costing a ridiculous amount for the 'made in america' stamp. Les Pauls for example, a Gibson, beautiful guitar, but worth all that extra money over the Epiphone?

You've done the sensible thing, you went for the Mexican Strat...thats what I'd do because it probably plays and sounds just as good as any american made fender and you got it for less.

  • You're not paying for the Made in America stamp. You're paying for the name. Like a Cadillac.

Although I try to only buy made in America because I would rather pay an American than someone in some backwards-ass country.

  • I`ve got a Gibson flying V,1984 Gibson custom Explorer & a 1991 les paul standard,my son has an Epi Les paul standard ...the Explorer & V are fantastic guitars ,they sound & play great, like a dream then strap on the Les & in no way at all do they compare,in playing, sound, sustain, workmanship.

The epi is way below them all..

you have never played a Les Paul otherwise you wouldn`t compare it to a epi, which is a fine guitar but the Les ...well!!

  • I have played on a few Gibsons...never owned one to be honest.

I know a Gibson WILL be better than an Epi, anyday...I just don't think its better enough to warrant the extra (large) amount of cash. Thats all, I mean my Epi which I had a few years ago was a Standard Plus and it had Gibson pickups, and it had, to my shredder hands at least, a nicer/thinner feeling neck.

  • i prefer my V to any les paul ive played, yeah les pauls do sound better. but i cant get into the feel of them, they dont have enough upper fret access and have always felt really akward to me

  • V`s are great, look great, play great, sound great, nothing says Rock nRoll more than a V & nothing says Les Paul more than a bad left shoulder i can tell you that for sure.Man i love my V,gotta go pick her up...bye!

  • How does this comment help anyone?

  • _|_

  • he looks like a Brad Bellick of Prison Break

  • =))))))TRUE

  • Its just a scaling up practice of pentatonic on the key of E...not really a speed technique

  • Awesome lesson man....u rock

  • haha real fast! ahh! wah wah wahhhh

  • Kirk usus this like in all his solos but a little faster je je

  • thanks for your lesson

  • COB use this scale..the song everytime i die..b4 the keyboard solo..

  • Every single rock band from the 70s-90s used the pentatonic scale, it's very easy.

GnR, Aerosmith, Santana, Zakk Wylde, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, etc.

    Everyone uses it.

  • thank you man i love that...im practicing it on my guitar..still having trouble with the picking though but good lesson

  • Jody rocks. thanks. yeah, I am doing it up and down. is that a Les Paul standard? pretty.

  • great excersise man..

    im practicing now.. =)

by the way, min. 3:10 on
