The dolls symbolize people acting "fake" in society, and the candles represent his free ideas (lighting the candle is him trying to keep his own originality). The outdoor sequence represents public school systems acting like factories, pumping kids in and out without truly caring about them/recognizing their own unique abilities. Hope that helps!
