This is no longer needed it was just for the bug that 1.0.6 created was fixed in 1.0.6.1

I found that if you remove three buckets of lava its just enough to let you plant the seeds and then you can simply empty the three buckets of lava back in. its quikcer but not quite as interesting as your method.
