  • If he didn't use a gun, why did the silhouette show him with one. A bit misleading.

  • Fui o número 597.000, (redondo) a assistir ao vídeo.

  • Con su galera y su baston .... creo comenzaba en español.

  • Bat Masterson ended his career as a sportswriter for the New York Daily Telegraph. He died in 1921, sixty-seven years old.

  • Brings back memories.....I use to watch this series, fall in love with the women on it and long for the west.......thanks

  • Bat Masterson is kinfolk. I watched this show every weekend for months.

  • this guy reminds me of RICK PERRY..

  • Chucked her a length and hit the trail....... HERO!

  • I didn't know Robert Conrad was on the show

  • @Leadfoot530 Neither did I. William Conrad was in this one. He was "Cannon" and the radio Matt Dillon.

  • @44032 Your are right it was William Conrad. That makes a lot more sense.

  • MIS RECUERDOS DE NIÑO SIEMPRE PARA TI GENE...GRACIAS

  • He wore a hat, his favorite hat, he loved that hat, he hated hats. CAL JOHNSON!

  • Who cares what the real Bat was like the show was great.

just like all the movies about the O.K. Corral make the Earps out to be heros not bullies who broke the law as bad as the 'criminals' they went after who were often as not average cowboys. In Tombstone they fought the elected Sheriff.

  • The real Bat Matserson ended up as a New York sportswriter. He actually died after completing his last article.

  • @OFFENDOR lol I doubt he cares, Bat gets bitches in every town he stops in.

  • BAT MASTERSON IS MY GREAT (times alot) UNCLE!!!

  • @kammy9437 My wife's maiden name was Masterson- she's a relative, too. Her dad looks an awful lot like "William" through the eyes.

  • we missy shows like that on this days....

  • No velho Oeste ele nasceu...

  • Tempo bom.

  • They called him Ass, Ass Masterson....

  • Barry must have had a good agent. Look at the font size of his name compared to the other actors.

  • lovely to hear this theme song after many years when i was a child....

  • \\\eu assisti muito esse filme achava barbaro

  • "...the man with the fastest gun, they called him Bat, Bat Masterson." I liked the walking stick when I was a kid, but a kid can't wear a walking stick, so, now I'm old and decrepit enough that I can get away with it !!!

  • Never saw this show until This put it on. Actually the theme song ends with "the man who had the fastest gun, his name was Bat...Bat Masterson."

Sadly if this were made today Bat would have long hair, a beard, dress like a hobo, chase women, and curse constantly. Guys that appear in Westerns today just use them as an excuse to look like hippies.

  • We used to call him Master Batter!

  • These are the type shows that should be shown on TV Land and AMC not some of those other reruns, but I think they must have a problem with black and white shows even tho today they are showing the TWILIGHT ZONE episodes on SCI-FY channel

  • Great show. He understood women. He had the money, and he always got the action.

  • @roadrunner9695 Bring it back on TV its better the junk whats on TV now. Bring back all the oldes. 9-06-2011

and bring back all the old Westen. Thanks. Bill

  • @roadrunner9695 1960 tv excelcior SHOW,...Brazil.///

  • Back in the early 70s I ran the stage at The Newport 7 Seas Lounge and Gene Barry used to stay at the Hotel and come into the club. He reminded me so much of Bat Masterson. A real class guy and 100% gentleman always saying hello and good bye as he left the club.

  • @abuiltmale: I live about seven blocks away from the Newport Hotel, and back in the 70's you guys had the BEST music acts there. I loved that lounge. I could see acts there for free that people would shell out big bucks for nowadays at a large concert. Like the golden age of TV has left, not to return, the golden age of great hotels with entertainment is almost gone too. I don't include Las Vegas in my rant, as paying $200 - $300 for a concert ticket at a hotel isn't like the "Old Days".

  • @rolex452 I have of great memories from the Newport. About 5 years ago we had a big reunion in Ft Lauderdale. I saw people I haven't seen in 30 years. It was great.

  • I never knew of this show until earlier this year. Out in LA it comes on a channel called This TV (channel 5-2) late at night. Love how catchy the theme is as well.

  • Liked this show and you know what? its still being shown early in the morning on a network called this channel 26 on my cable lineup. I have taped it many times.

  • like whats this "video" supervisor ? there .audio. super yes? was that run kinescoped there i dont think so?? they was run on b&w 16mm or 35 mm film .. not video taped.??

  • This reminds me of my Dad (who recently passed away). He watched this every day back when we had the western channel. Kinda makes me sad.

  • This show is back in syndication. On local broadcast. Check your listings. The original post is wrong to say William "Bat" Masterson did not use a gun. He was a famous gunslinger, known to be one of the fastest. (This is even evident in the show.) His gun handle was notched with his kills. He was not just a roaming gambler but was at various times a lawman, even a US Marshall. He died a journalist.

  • I used to watch this tv series at the end of 70s. I miss it so much.

  • I used to watch "Bat Masterson" and enjoyed all of the episodes. The singer of the theme song sounds a lot like the voice of MGM actor Howard Keel.

  • @hotoldies Yes. I agree

  • Thank you very much

  • my dad watches this all the time. i'm only 19 years old but i hope these shows are still on rereun so i can watch them with my kids when i have them.

  • You can hear this song in spanish with Los Hooligans "Bat Masterson..from México

  • LOL, i didnt know that this is a tv show, i searched for it coz i lived in a bat masterson road in el paso texas XD

  • Excellent.

  • I love all the western theme songs, especially this one!

  • Fat Bastardson

  • The woman at the beginning of the clip is actress Joan Marshall who, renamed "Jean Arless", starred in William Castle's "Psycho" copycat "Homicidal."

  • If you stare at the silhouette of Bat his arms alternate, first it looks like cane or gun is in his right hand then vice versa. I noticed that about over 50 years ago when I was very small, thought it was neat.

  • I vaugely remember this show. Seems like a good one though!

  • They should make a Bat Masterson movie like they did with the A team.

  • hoje vendo esse filme me dei conta que o tempo passou, passou muito rapido ao ponto de so me dar conta agora.anos bons, muito bons que pena que seja so saudades o bom e que eu vivi esse tempo

saudoso tempo que nao vem mais

    obrigado pela lembranca

  • BM is on daily ThisTV (a 2nd channel on Tribune's Fox affiliate in Indianapolis) you need a digital tv receiver and rabbit ears - ch 4.2 and 29.2 I love the theme song and sing it all the time now -- who is the great voice anyway?

  • No velho Oeste ele nasceu... Saudade dos velhos e bons tempos de criança!!!

  • Thank you so much!!

  • Gracias Miles

  • i like the series on encore westerns there. i watched it on wgntv 9 in the 1960s too at my home in the "projects" also im coloradostar50 there ,aloha..

  • William Conrad would become best known as Frank Cannon, although he also starred on "Jake and the Fat Man". James Best would become best-known as Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane on "The Dukes of Hazzard".

  • Looks like he's got a gun in that silhouette.

  • This brings back, so many memories.

  • I used to see this in Cuba in the early 70's.

  • GREAT*******

  • great series..........

  • re: question from boxorice...the beautiful actress in this episode was Joan Marshall.

  • good show\

  • Was Gene Barry lite in the loafers?

  • Who is the woman in that video?

  • Until recently, I'd never realized how many shows David Friedkin and Morton Fine worked on together. I just knew them for "I Spy."

  • childress is such a geek

  • Childless is ok

  • brad childress has good taste, old skool baby

  • Brad Childress I know you are going to read this comment because you love Bat Masterson! Haha. Go win the championship for us next season

  • Rest In Peace Gene Barry

  • parece a ana hickmann

  • Thank you for the wonderful song. The first few episodes had all the verses, but later episodes left off the first verse of the song. Unfortunately, the last 15 seconds of this version are missing. I would love to hear it complete if you still have the original and it is not damaged. Thanks..:-).

  • I never have missed only one episode of the TV series Bat Masterson.

The television series Bat Masterson gave me good times of entertainment. All children of my generation all over the world always will remember the series.

    Rest in peace, Gene Barry.

  • The singer was Michael stewart who was uncredited, he worked for the studio. For years no one knew who sang the song.

  • Just got a collection of episodes from this show and watched this one this morning. The irony is that the bad guy in this epsiode is played by Bill Conrad who was still playing Matt Dillon, the Marshall of Dodge City, on the radio at this time. The real Masterson, of course, was in the real Dodge City as the Sheriff of Ford County. Matt prevented many a lynching on the radio show but here Bill wants to lynch James Best. The TV Bat stops him, of course.

  • OMG, I didn't know he had passed away!! Mr. Barry, thanks a million for the good moments in our childhood. RIP.

  • A TIME of Great TV and greater personalities. See ya, Gene!

  • Probalby my favorite TV actor of my youth. Bat Masterson, Burke's Law, Name of the Game. Teh epitome of class on screen and a great guy off it. RIP

  • Rest In Peace Gene Barry!

  • @YankeeFan285 The Yankees are going to bat Masterson around this Sunday in New York.

  • @YankeeFan285 HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST

  • @YankeeFan285 He will be missed."RIP''

  • @YankeeFan285 One of my favorite actors. He is buried close to my father In Hillside Cemetery. I stop by his site when I go to visit my father.

  • unfortunately in this scene he dresses like a sterotypical tv cowboy of the 1950s or 1960s. according to THE NEW YORK TIMES obituary, he didn't like tv westerns and it was the derby hat, brocaded waistcoat, and gold-tipped cane that attracted him to the character. and all those are absent in this clip!

  • RIP, you will not be forgotten.

  • In Memory of Gene Barry. the legendary actor will be remembered for his classic TV shows such as Bat Masterson, Burke's Law, & The Name of the Game among others. So long Mr. Barry we'll miss you so. Gene Barry 1919-2009 : (...

  • I second that.

Burke's Law made Aaron Spelling Aaron Spelling in my opinion.

Here's wishing you a happy holiday.

  • Rest in Peace Gene Barry

  • In memory of Gene Barry, a magnificent man and actor.

  • You did great work, Gene.

  • Obrigado Gene Barry!

    Adeus Bat Masterson :( + 09/12/2009

  • Thanks Gene Barry, another part of my childhood is gone.

  • @navywrslr Hmm-hmm, mine too.

  • RIP Gene Barry

  • TIEMPOS DEL ÑANGE

  • Great tune, elevates the mind. However, it should be remembered that not only did Bat Masterson use a gun, but he was one of the best and fastest shots of his time.

  • my name is masterson

  • I remember watching this just this year in Nez Perce County Jail (Lewiston, Idaho) haha. Dog bless Idaho.

  • The background "town" shown as Bat rides away is clearly shot in / near Chatsworth, CA.

The movie studios used to have a place way back in the hills on a private ranch to film. BUT,,, they also used "Spawn Movie Ranch" right next to Chatsworth Park. Sound familiar? It was where Charles Manson & his freaks hung out in the late 1960's. They took over the property, essentially, from an old man who lived there. Later, after the trials & convictions, the ranch was bulldozed. Condos there now.

  • The song was "Bat Masterson" and it was performed by Mr. Mike Stewart, a professional singer that did not receive billing. That is the way it was done in the 1950s. Mr. Mike Stewart recorded three songs in the children's album, Walt Kelly's ,the Songs of the Pogo in 1956 . You can hear his distinctive voice in this rare album.

  • I LOVE the show! I got SKY ANGEL cable so I can watch all those great westerns(as well as good Christian shows!)

Who sang the Bat Masterson Theme song? Does anybody know?

  • Thanks for posting this and a number of other great theme songs. Bat was a real man and would up his life as a sports writer for a New York newspaper after his lawman days were done. Bat also had worked with another western legend, Wyatt Earp.

  • i wish they would bring these shows back on tv--all mean all of them--people wanna see these shows instead of people getting naked all the time--and airhead teenagers--doing dirty stuff-young people on tv have no morals

  • I had never heard of the show until the tv conversion a few months ago. I gained a few stations and this show was on it (Cleveland, Ohio) I love this show!!!

  • I totally agree.

Hollywood used to have talented people. Now, the shows are 90 % young people with zero, nada, nothing more to show but youth and mild talent. The plots are lame. The acting is pathetic for the most part.

But then, ,,,, hey.... perhaps that is why the studios are nearly bankrupt :) and struggling ! They deserve it. Put out a lousy product and people vote with their wallet. i.e. its not worth paying for the junk they produce.

  • @melollylolly True How True i know what a Naked Butt looks like lets see some Good Shows

  • @melollylolly

How so right you are. And I think that is the very reason the networks will not bring these shows back, they taught morals and decency. They don't want us to know or remember what was good in our past. One would not need to wonder too much for a reason that television and the entertainment media is hurtful to all but especially our children. God help us.

  • @melollylolly Yeah im 13 and i still watch them i watch "The Virginian"on channel ''538''.

  • @melollylolly I just watched a "Have Gun,Will Travel" & "Cheyenne" streaming from NF.And have been enjoying "Cimmaron Strip"; one series I missed.

  • BEAUTIFUL MELODY

  • My G-pa watches this show even today in 2009. He prefers to watch B&W movies and shows over all.

  • a melodia da musica é linda demais!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gene Barry . Or Berry i think . lol

  • Yeah. She knows why they call him "bat."

  • Essa era uma gostosa... hoje prefirimos a Julia Paes...

  • nossa gente, que saudade ...

obrigada muito obrigada a quem postou esse vídeo!

  • No velho oeste ele nasceu ... Adorei rever ... Lembro que meu irmão tinha a bengala , o chapéu e o revolver do Bat Masterson ...Muito bom !

  • does anyone know who performs this theme song?

  • The old 45 I have says "Cricketone Orchestra"

  • and "he wore a cane and derby hat" how do you wear a cane? Is it like one of those joke arrows that looks like its going though your head?

  • If he didn't need or carry a gun, why does the silhouette have a gun?

  • when i was a little kid in the early 60's my parents got me Bat Masterson Set - ie the derby, cane, gold vest, and little pistol...i looked like a 5 yr old pimp...til the kid across the street got the same and then we looked like a vaudville act

  • LOL@Jackson Perdue! I remember that set; it was a much sought after outfit by us young TV "cowboys"! The only western show hero who dressed better was Yancy Derringer. The Maverick brothers were sartorially outstanding, too. I never did learn to fight with a cane, but I later became a crack shot. Westerns taught me to love guns, independence, and individualism. The heros were NOT conformists.

  • OMG! What a blast from my childhood past! I was about 6 years old, but I had a mad crush on Gene Barry. So I watched the original "War of the Worlds" and it scared the crap out of me!!!

  • Does anyone know who is singing the theme song?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Mike stewart,he made LPs of childrens songs as well.

  • Is that Mike Stewart of the We Five, by any chance? Probably not.

  • @zzlentz I think he's also singing the Elfego Baca Theme in another U-Tube clip. It sounds like him.

  • No velho oeste ele nasceu... por entre bravos se criou... seu nome lenda se tornou... Bat Masterson........Bat Masterson........

    Saudades!!!!!

  • About Bat Masterson. While I was too young to remember watching the show when it was on, I remember a table board game of Bat Masterson that was somewhat based on the show and my older brothers played that game.

  • People gather round and witness the Highway Man, check out my video!:D

  • who is the singer of the theme? He sounds like George Beverly Shea.

  • Maravilhoso seriado!!!

  • Thanks! I cannot imagine ever finding this song. It was my ma's favourite picture on TV but the song never left my mind.

  • Doh! That's: M A V E R I C K :-[

  • Hmmm, certainly no "Marerick" or "Have Gun Will Travel". The tune is pretty standard fare, but boy were they ever reaching on some of those lyrics! (Comparatively speaking, even the lyrics for "Branded" were inspired IMHO.)

  • Yeah, the lyrics were kind of lame.

"Now when the west was very young / There lived a man named Masterson." That doesn't rhyme!

And you CARRY a cane, you don't wear one!

  • Houghsvideo: He didn't use a gun? Didn't he keep one in his shoe or something? Take a look at his silhouette above and you'll see he's using a small pistol of some sort.

  • He used a gun, but it was never his main "weapon" That was either hi cane or his gambling skills.

  • Yes, I remember watching the show (as a kid), it's just funny they use the silhouette with a gun as his visual theme....

  • yea. I mean, come on, put a deck of cards i nhis hand if anything. Honestly, im probably mixing in too much Maverik, as thats just about all ive been watching i nthe western genere

  • Hey, don't forget the Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel, Bonanza, Cheyenne, Colt 45, and MANY more.....

  • Gene is probably not doing too much since he is 90 years old.

  • for all you married with children fans ... this is pyhsco dad

  • po raridade, meu pai falava dele !saudades

  • I liked that Gene Barry as Mat Basterson

    and Burke's Law too.

  • i wonder what gene barry is doing right now?

  • Comment removed

  • @legorocks3 pushin daisies

  • @zotman1 It's an old comment before he died :(

  • It can now be revealed that the mystery singer of the ballad of Bat Masterson is Mike Stewart. To prove this legendary mystery, please listen to Mike Stewart in the Pogo album of the 1950s. Mike's distinct baritone voice is unmistakable and distinct.

    all the Best,

    Noel Serrano

    Gala Foundation-2009

  • Great theme, good show...it used to be on overnight on an indie TV station in my hometown

    (Dallas).

  • I LOVE... this show!

  • back to being a kid again for 91 seconds
