He is a survivor of the Japanese camps in British Columbia and that experience has influenced him as an artist. Just the fact that he has been a great influence in more than one discipline makes him a great scientist and an intellectual and Canadians should be proud to have him. Someone like Baird on the other hand...makes me embarrassed as a Canadian!

He is a survivor of the Japanese camps in British Columbia and that experience has influenced him as an artist. Just the fact that he has been a great influence in more than one discipline makes him a great scientist and an intellectual and Canadians should be proud to have him. I see John Baird has been shuffled to Transport-at a time when our cities need substantial infrastructure work.
Mr. Baird's experience ?..... Well he interfere in the light rail project in his hometown of Ottawa,delaying the project & leaving the city's taxpayers on the hook for a quarter billion dollar lawsuit.
Mr. Harper now wants Mr. Baird to bring this 'wrecking ball approach' to all of Canada's transportation system. Gotta make up for the billions already squandered some how.

Not up to speed as I'm back from Mexico. It's still early, however even with the same people running it isn't the same race as Canadians will have altered their views as will the contenders in the race.
If "iggy' is an 'American wannabe', what does that make Harper? I think Rae is a hell of a lot more mature than when he ran Ontario and spent like a NEW Conservative. It's now looking like we are high and dry and now in debt.

From what I gather,"Mr Economist" Harper squeaked through his academics, as for Iggy I don't know. I do know exposure to the best educational facilities in North America is no guarantee,(look at Bush)but it is what the individual does with it. A trade court has found in favour of the Cdn. Wheat Board in a longstanding dispute with the U.S. over tariffs.
The U.S. Court of International Trade has ordered the U.S. Commerce Department to return duties it collected on Canadian hard red spring wheat between August 2003 and February 2006.
There was a 14 per cent tariff charged on wheat going to the U.S,a duty found to be unfair in an earlier ruling.

I wouldn't put too much stock into an election Canadians didn't want but had shoved down their throats.
Nine months can make a huge difference in what Canadians can 'determine'- just ask Joe Clark. Harper played his hand but didn't recieve the outcome he had hoped. I'm sure he will ignore that small detail and try to carry on in his same manor to the determent of or political system. It wouldn't surprise me that he sees his minority as a mandate to reform the Senate- he is that boneheaded.

Mr. Dion is quit capable as a leader but he even realizes that Mr. Harper bank rolled an alter ego that is out there and exists in the public perception,right or wrong. He made mistakes in that he failed to realize the extent that the Conservative Party would go to destroy his image before he even had one. This is not a flaw in his character and he maintains a level of integrity that Mr. Harper will never have with the Canadian public.

The economics that allow him to take billions out of the Tar sands with an artificial price hike & drop the GST by two points while our balanced Manufacturing sector is allowed to twist and swing in the wind. Now the oil bubble has burst, the money is gone and we are stuck with no balance in our economy and a PM that doesn't know if his backside is punched or bored.

Right now, Elizabeth May seems to have what I admired in Dion, putting good policy ahead of appearing to be a leader. Recall the debates? I freely admit, I'm as politically cynical as they come, and I felt for once perhaps Dion was different. I actually believed he had sound policies and was more then intelligent for the job. Hell, all he's ever critiqued for is lack of leadership [On which I ask hoping for a wider discussion: What exactly is leadership and how does Stephen Harper have it?]. I assure you, he was not rejected by Candians because of the Carbon tax. It was that Canadians didn't seem interested in what he had to say.

I'm disgusted that a fixed election law could be contorted (by its originator no less) into the exact opposite of what it was intended for. It kind of makes everyone wonder with such fore sight where will" A nation within a nation" end up? We will see more of this crap if Harper gets to re vamp the Senate without Constitutional change. More at what he is good at- Lip Service.

ALL ABOARD!...the Flip Flop Train is pulling out!...In his last budget in Feb. the minister projected a $2.3-billion surplus this fiscal year and a $1.3-billion surplus in 2009-2010.
A Merrill Lynch economist and TD Bank chief economist both analyzed the changed economic outlook and predict the federal government is headed for a $10-billion deficit in 2009-10. As well, both project deficits several years down the road, which would cause considerable political problems for the Harper government.

Your Guy didn't just win it. He called it and gave himself a head start buy launching a smear campaign months in advance. I guess 'insider information' paid off? How telling Harper has fabricated a Fixed Election Law that ranks right up there with his idol ,Diefenbaker's Bill of Rights-neither are worth the paper they were written on.

How would I ask Mr. Dion to stay? I'm not a member of the Liberal Party. He deserved and got party support now we must retool for whatever reason and begin to fight the next battle as the 'war' is far from over. I respect Mr. Dion but I fear he has contracted a bad case of preston manningitus,by coming into contact with 'undesirables'lol

Hmm,A peek in to the Conservative mind set- Cdn's will never want an election, so lets grind Parliament to a halt and force one on them just because inside polls say you should?I get it. All for what? To push the incremental Conservative agenda? Was it worth refueling the separatists ? Was it worth making more people in Canada turn on the Parlimentary system and start looking at other forms o voting? This election was a sham and the light Harper sees at the tunnel's end is indeed a freight train

Every election is different. This entire one was orchestrated by Mr. Harper and he was handed his issue of choice- the economy. To not achieve a majority has to say something, as we now head into a stagnant,perhaps shrinking economy and a likely deficit. So when is thebig flipflop coming or is that to be incremental like the ripping off from Mr.Dions plan on a first Ministers conference asap?

What's foolish is the fact you fail to realize your Mr. Harper is a fraud, who most likely mislead Parliament and the Canadian people with his FIXED ELECTION GARBAGE. It is evident to me that his his two year smear of Mr. Dion was just another way of skirting election spending rules,once again. People against fixed elections were rightin thinking it may bring on a US style campaign. All politicians will suffer because of Harper not just Mr.Dion. Harper like s Court & will see more of it soon.

You have answered your own question, think about it, fight the fixed election bill to the point of what, making it a confidence motion? or having an election on it, again perverted , again there is the dysfunction. My stand on Dion hasn't changed, he won the leadership and with it party loyalty for an election. He is welcome to fight again in 'the pit" if he thinks he can win. The problem for Dion is that his 'first impression' was created by Harper with a character assassination and therefore it is 'out there' regardless of it being true or not.

Now knowing what Harper knew in regard to calling an election it is obvious why he spent so much money upfront ,knowing he would be restricted in spending as soon as he went crying to the G.G. with his BS excuses. My e-mails are going to several people,from Frank McKenna(NB) to Carole Taylor(BC) and several others in between. Too bad Danny Williams is busy,hmmm maybe Brian Toban...lol
