  • So which one do you prefer....I kind of liked the Mele. But hey, what do I know. I'm just beginning the search for a good uke. There are so many brands and models.

  • Don't down play your ability your voice has a haunting quality and goes great with the ukulele. Want to see more Thanks for the comparison.

  • i really like the Mele -

  • i really loled hard when u made the little fruit salad joke...this pono is so beautiful

  • Deach the comparison was great. I wished Mele would get involved in the mango wood. I like the sound of the worths.

  • Is the ink finished?

  • the Pono mango sounds amazing !

    very cool looking uke too

I'm looking for a new little camping-uke and the mango pineapple comes high in my ranking now, thanks for the lovely samples and lovely playing as well !

  • Thanks!

I really wouldn't take this one camping. Have you looked at Flukes? They're pretty indestrucible and have a decent sound.

  • I bet! How long have you been working

    on it?

  • Forever it seems. Over 100 hours so far.

  • both sound nice love the pono

    ink is awesome

  • Thanks! I can't wait for the ink to be done.

  • thanks for the sound samples. love the sounds and the pretty pineapple, yum.

    ps impressive tatoo!

  • Thanks!

  • i wish i could afford a ukulele that beautiful...my crappy instruments are holding me back!

  • I wish I could sing like you. Wanna trade?

  • Congrats on the 4000. I really like the sound of the Pono mango. Very nice!

The Mele sounds pretty sweet too though.

I also noticed that the ink is coming along quite nicely. looking good!

  • Thanks! I like them both.

3 or 4 more sessions left. Is it over yet? lol

  • I like the mellow Pono, but it all depends on what you are playing on them. Mele sounds better for strummed songs, Pono sounds better for picked songs.

    Cool demo, Deach!

  • Thanks khrome. I think the clear winner is me. lol.

  • you have a talking chicken cool! plus both ukes sound awesome

  • Thanks! They sound different enough to keep both.

  • 綺麗な音色ですね。

    歌も素敵です。

    good!

  • Arigatou!

  • I think I like the tone of the Mele better, actually. It has a punchier sound, whatever that means.

  • I can't say I disagree, I could go back and forth on the two all day.

  • I think the Pono looks better, sounds better and probably plays better too (the neck profile is deeper). I think it would probably sound better if you strung it with pishing line.

    Excellent video, Deach.

    KEN

  • Thanks Ken. The Pono feels nicer in my hand that's for sure. As far as sound, they're different enough that I can't say one is better than the other.

  • wow they both sound really niiice!

  • soobz!!! Thanks man. Where you been?

  • I really dig the rounder sound of the Mango-Blasting Pono! Not that there is anything wrong with that Punchy mahogany guy though.

  • Thanks. yeah, I think they complement each other.

  • the pono is soooooo much nicer

  • Yes, but the Mele is made of Mahogany, it's supposed to LOOK and SOUND different. Maybe it's not possible to compare these two and Deach just wanna read some hot discussions here... :-)

  • It looks nicer indeed but the sound is comparable.

  • So which of the two do you prefer? They sound different but both sound nice. Optically I like the Pono better, the grain is so pretty!

  • both! lol. I have a difficult time making decisions.

  • oh u

    lol

  • Manny lost his voice....por now.

  • I'm a sucker for a good lookin' pono. Sounds good too!

  • Thanks Zoe! I'm just a sucker.

  • nice video - i love the look of that Mango, sweeet. =)

  • Thanks Red!

  • That pono sounds brilliant - but i am a fan of aquila strings ,and it looks good !

You played both really well :)

  • Thanks Mum. I can tell there will be a lot of switching back and forth between the two.

  • Nice comparison Deach. The Pono is so pretty, and I do love the crisp aquila sound on it, but the Mele has a nice mellow sound. I think I would choose the Pono, just for the perdy looks. I'm so vain...

  • So vain because you're so perdy.

    *kisses

  • that pono looks stunning, love the grain

  • Thanks krabbers. MGM has some really nice ones.

  • Aw man. This song tears my heart out. Reminds me of HER AHHHH

That Pono looks and sounds perfect. I think my Next uke is gonna be a Pineapple.

  • Sorry abooot the song JohnnyCakes,

  • Deach,

thanks for sharing....i think they're both great....the Pono is beautiful, but if I had both them ukes (how can I not covet cool lookin ukes like that?) i'd probably us the Pono for more chill stuff and use the mele to 'bash'.....again nice ukes bro!

  • I was thinking the same thing. Once I match the strings, I'll get a better comparison. Thanks!

  • Thats so pretty, those contrasting lines and the dark and light areas...

I like that mango wood too. *swak*

  • LOL. Thanks Yoppy!

  • both sound very cool..you have a look of indecision on you??hmmm??i guess i'd rather eat a mango and chase a cat with a piece of mahogany...hope that helps...cheers

  • Yes, It's still new. Once it's broken in, i'll have a better look of indecision. lol

    Thanks.

  • pono's preeety

  • Thanks Ben.

  • Deach! Dude! I haven't watched you vids for a short while and MAN! Your ink has really spread!

Although it's still new, I prefer the Pono.

  • How did I know you'd pick the Pono? lol

  • Have you heard the new CD yet?

  • Just ordered it. Can't wait!

  • Thanks SO much Deach!

  • The Pono is beautiful. The tattoo is going along nicely. Congrats on the 4000 -- my fingers are so itching to respond to the thread but then I'd be disqualified.

  • Thanks Sukie!

You can always edit your UU post.....

  • when i cover over to your hose can we play connect four! tats looking good in the video.. i like when people do side by side videos.. i like the 2nd uke better.. good jobz!

  • Thankz DFTM. They're pretty similar but the Pono is still new. Once it's broken in I'll do a follow up review.

  • bwahahahaha. You're into is amazing. ohhhh yeah, nice playing too :)

  • Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • I always dreamt of a Pono Mango Tenor... It's just way too beautiful wood...

good comparison, makes me wanna have that Mango tenor even more^^

Oh, and you got Manny, I already missed him^^

  • Thanks! MGM has some nice Pono Mango Tenors......

  • I guess so, there are some on the German Uke shops too. The problem so far is just the money, but I hope I'll get it paid by my work...

anyway you did very well on this video, and once more congrats on the 4k

  • Sweet dude.

    I like your t-shirt too.

  • LOL Thanks!

  • they both sound great. the pono sounds beeeeeeautiful but i think that's me being biased cause it's so pretty.

you've got so many ukes - it's hard to imagine you breaking any of the strings in!

  • Thanks Shane. My strings get crusty fast. I shouldn't eat hamburgers and play at the same time.

  • nice video deach Pono is nice

  • Thanks Stephen. I'm pleased with it.

  • Oooh! Nice Pono Deach! It's really pretty. And great comparison video. You made them both sound so nice that there's no way I could pick a favourite. Really beautiful playing and singing.

  • Thanks Michelle. I think it's a keeper. I think.

  • Nice comparison video. Realy good. I am considering to purschase a Concert uke at the moment because I think it suits me better than soprano.

Been looking about a bit, cause I am kinda on a budget :P around 150-160USD max. Bit roughly done since I dont have dollars here :P

  • Thanks. Kala has some nice stuff in that price range.

  • you have the coolest tribal tattoos i have ever seen. wow. any significance? i'd love to hear about them.

and thanks for the comparison video!!

  • Thanks! I still have 3 more sessions to go to finish the tattoo.

  • Oh man, that Pono is GORGEOUS! I'm still such a noob...is that just a painted design, or is that how the wood naturally looks?

I gotsta get me some new strings :) I'm diggin' the Aquilas on your Mango! (sounds a bit dirty!) :p

  • Thanks Lisa. The wood is like that naturally. I think it's a type of mold or something like that.

  • You're the best of both Ken AND Uki, you doodled dream! :)

Mele was punchier on the fingerpicking but comparable on strumming - more treble on the Mele. Both sound great. And your performance was greeeeat!

  • Thanks Alan. I'll match stringz and do a revisit later.

  • nice comparison video! i don't have a good ear for these things but they both sound great to me.

  • They both sound good to me too. Now I can play one while I look at the other propped againt the woodchipper.

  • Reminds me of a nurse who described to me her student stint in a maternity ward. She picked up one of the little guys and said to the supervisor, "Oh! This one's gorgeous !" The charge nurse gave her a severe look and said, "Hey, we're all gorgeous in here; remember that!"

    Thanks, Deach.
