I know the chords he is playing but does anyone know or have a link to the exact travis picking pattern he is using? Is it just a standard 4 string pattern?
my gma just died and it was 6 years after gpa i slept in the house so full of family and life with my mom the other night the house was so quiet ,,, my mother so sad i said mom did you ever think in our life we would be the only two sleeping in this house.... i watched her finally sleep and i sang this is my mind until i fell asleep.
I grew up on Telephone road Just a few miles from where Rodney did. He is 10 years older so I never knew him but it is amazing to me how similar our lives were. That is except for his musical talent. I play alot of his songs which is easy. He wrote so many beautiful compositions that he will always be my favorite.
First time I heard this song was at Rodney's Nottingham (UK) Rock City concert when he was touring The Houston Kid with Will Kimborough. You realise on first listen what a fascinating and beguiling number it is. The perfect way to round off the album. Those are killer opening words: 'So I'm an orphan now, out here on my own.' Looking forward to the Chinaberry Sidewalks tour coming to England.
I agree with Stowmann. I was sitting in a parking lot and this came on as part of an NPR interview. Never heard of him before. And indeed, this song is brilliant. I love it. Glad it is on You Tube.
Rodney was the BEST concert of 2010....I may never see a show as special and wonderful as the show he performed in Columbia, Missouri USA. OUTSTANDING!
Oh, lord, almost broke down and cried while listening to this. I so relate to what Rodney says about his parents. I agree The Houston Kid is one of the best albums of recent years. Must listen to it in full again soon!
Love this live version ,Love your voice and all your great songs Rodney, you know I'm your biggest fan,Mayo,Ireland.

A lovely song.
For a few years Rodney would close his show with this song.
I never wanted a Rodney show to end.
Thank you for sharing.
