I have this same drum in the same scale. Looks exactly the same only the label is slightly different.Love it and I'll never get rid of this instrument.
I imagine myself in the middle of a tribe, or ancient civilization, having to hunt, craft my own weapons, and playing this kind of music at night around a bonfire.
Just bought one, it's not the microphone; the sound really is this vibrant with just the drum alone and your fingers.. hitting with the side knuckle of my thumb works the best but it hurts after a while ahha. This thing is amazing!
@EpicSkier556 They are super easy to play, EpicSkier... there's no wrong notes to play on the scales we tune them to, so just playing random notes on them sound just fine together :) -- John - Hapi Tones (dot) com
This is really great, very neat instrument. It would be cool to reproduce some tracks from classic games like Final Fantasy 6 (3 american) or a slew of 8 bit games I could list.
@sky6485 it plays a pentatonic scale, and you choose whihc pentatonic scale you want when you buy it. if your vocal range is more than 1.5 octaves, it shouldn't matter what tuning you buy.
you have mastered that 100%.. there is literally nothing more you can learn! that was like jesus himself playing sweet music to all his believers still living on earth!
This looks like a really cool alternative to buying steel drums, which despite being originally invented to be a cheap instrument now cost thousands of dollars for a set ;l
I'd buy one if I wasn't already sitting on a room full of percussion instruments-- my family'd kill me if I bought any more. :3
I WANT ONE. First, I'll need a job! You sound great, though! One question: Are your microphones enhancing the ring of the drum? Or will they sound just as good acoustically?
@PsychoactiveRodent Thanks for the comment ! There is a little bit of reverb echo on the track, but it was more because I wanted it to hear a little reverberation when I tap the top of the drum and parts that don't normally resonate, but other than that, it sounds pretty much like it does acoustically.
When I watched this video for the first time, I immediately assumed that this instrument would sound ten times better when played by my own hands, and I am thankful that I took the plunge and bought one. These instruments sound soooo much better in person. This video really doesn't do them justice. Neither does this guy playing it (cuz he isn't hitting it correctly). I'm so happy that I took the risk and dropped the money on this purchase. I take this with me on all business trips now! So Good!
I've been doing concerts with my custom Hapi drums, and have gotten raves over them, especially from other musicians. They sound absolutely incredible, especially when internally miked with an AT Pro 35 clipon and top-miked with a Shure 57. Will be ordering more in a few days! btw, the craftsmanship is absolutely exquisite!
@benny926 No, I'm in the US, but if you play hand drums already, like a Djembe, you can already play the Hapi. Hapi Drums are super easy to learn and play, very intuitive. We ship them to Australia all the time though.
