  • so relaxing

  • what is it??

  • Beautiful

  • I want one of those so bad

  • Que dulce sonido!!!!

  • Beautiful thanks also for the usefull and detailed information about the Hapi drum! <3 it

  • you have no idea how hard i looked for a hang drum to realize that they're special made in some bullshit river

  • Beautiful Playing Brother! Happy New Year!

  • I have this same drum in the same scale. Looks exactly the same only the label is slightly different.Love it and I'll never get rid of this instrument.

  • One day I'll have the money for a D Akebono. :)

  • I imagine myself in the middle of a tribe, or ancient civilization, having to hunt, craft my own weapons, and playing this kind of music at night around a bonfire.

  • @DieTodgeweihten And then you can let us know all about it by twitting to the comment section of youtube. ;)

  • hi everyone! where can i buy this one?

  • teach that naught drum whos boss! slap it!

  • OH MY GOD ITS LIMITED EDITION! lol

  • @MegaDubbed LOL, too funny, MegaDubbed !

  • wow, very nice composition!! and stunning performance, your dynamics are incredible :)

  • @DamiaanVDW Thanks very much ! :)

  • Beautiful composition and performance!

  • @JohnLRice Thanks very much, John !

  • Beautiful ! have to have one

  • Just bought one, it's not the microphone; the sound really is this vibrant with just the drum alone and your fingers.. hitting with the side knuckle of my thumb works the best but it hurts after a while ahha. This thing is amazing!

  • I find it the sound of Hapi drum is much more like the sound of Gamelan from Indonesia but in different range of sound.. cool..!!

  • I got here via some Pat Metheny videos. Somehow I think he'd enjoy having a jam with you.

  • too much reverb. doesnt need reverb at all actualy, its natural sound should be perfect already =)

  • The best for me about hang!

  • how can people dislike this ??

  • this is relaxing, spiritual, and rewarding. I'm gonna buy one just for the sound...even if I don't know how to properly play one!

  • @EpicSkier556 They are super easy to play, EpicSkier... there's no wrong notes to play on the scales we tune them to, so just playing random notes on them sound just fine together :) -- John - Hapi Tones (dot) com

  • beh, il Mi basso ( E)...non è un granchè.....sono sincero! :)

  • watch such great drums, thats where ancient music and the first preliminary music ideas comes from. I pay my regards to such great artistry

  • are there any hapi drums with more than 8 tab things and are there different sounds you can make like with a hang

  • I would like to see 5 or so of these each in different keys to make one epic song.

  • This is really great, very neat instrument. It would be cool to reproduce some tracks from classic games like Final Fantasy 6 (3 american) or a slew of 8 bit games I could list.

  • excelente! video

  • who hard is it to learn how to play this instroment

  • Mto bom..Suave...

  • Hey you sound great!

I want to play and sing, how does it work? Does each drum have it's own key & which drum would suit voice more?

    Thanks :)

  • @sky6485 I'm pretty sure it depends on your voice

  • @sky6485 it plays a pentatonic scale, and you choose whihc pentatonic scale you want when you buy it. if your vocal range is more than 1.5 octaves, it shouldn't matter what tuning you buy.

  • As a drum player I have to say it's amazing.

  • why musicians ALWAYS play sad songs?????

  • you have mastered that 100%.. there is literally nothing more you can learn! that was like jesus himself playing sweet music to all his believers still living on earth!

  • This looks like a really cool alternative to buying steel drums, which despite being originally invented to be a cheap instrument now cost thousands of dollars for a set ;l

I'd buy one if I wasn't already sitting on a room full of percussion instruments-- my family'd kill me if I bought any more. :3

  • I WANT ONE. First, I'll need a job! You sound great, though! One question: Are your microphones enhancing the ring of the drum? Or will they sound just as good acoustically?

  • @PsychoactiveRodent Thanks for the comment ! There is a little bit of reverb echo on the track, but it was more because I wanted it to hear a little reverberation when I tap the top of the drum and parts that don't normally resonate, but other than that, it sounds pretty much like it does acoustically.

  • Hey man, how much would one of these cost me? You sound great, I love the haunting tone this drum gives off.

  • @PsychoactiveRodent Thank for the comment! They cost $375

  • maybe record cd;>??hapi to buy it :]

  • Woow it's amazing . สวดยอดดด

  • Is it me or we instantly like anyone playing a Hapi Drum?

  • dude this is amazing!!!

  • @Flipsk8r1011 Thanks man !!

  • So enchanting!!! I could listen to you play all day!

  • @tumbarumbatube Thanks very much, glad you enjoy the music! :)

  • it sound good to me in person r not. go head dude

  • Man this is just awesome!!!!!

  • When I watched this video for the first time, I immediately assumed that this instrument would sound ten times better when played by my own hands, and I am thankful that I took the plunge and bought one. These instruments sound soooo much better in person. This video really doesn't do them justice. Neither does this guy playing it (cuz he isn't hitting it correctly). I'm so happy that I took the risk and dropped the money on this purchase. I take this with me on all business trips now! So Good!

  • I've been doing concerts with my custom Hapi drums, and have gotten raves over them, especially from other musicians. They sound absolutely incredible, especially when internally miked with an AT Pro 35 clipon and top-miked with a Shure 57. Will be ordering more in a few days! btw, the craftsmanship is absolutely exquisite!

    peace

  • @gorebagg Very cool, E.J. Look forward to seeing and hearing what you come up with! -- John (Hapi Tones)

  • You play wonderful, absolutely magic tunes... I LOVE it :) thank you for sharing

  • @TheLightEmerging Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • this is epic. but are all these drums (hapi drum & hang) so expensive?

  • i almost cried because of this sound... so... beautiful...

  • Love the echo

  • Are you in AUSTRALIA! I would love to learn this instrument, I play other drums but this is a must..Do you teach?

  • @benny926 No, I'm in the US, but if you play hand drums already, like a Djembe, you can already play the Hapi. Hapi Drums are super easy to learn and play, very intuitive. We ship them to Australia all the time though.

  • love it at 1:30

  • first, you play happy drum ammazing.....

I was thinking about buying one of these but from the videos I saw some happy drums don't have the same sound as yours, could you tell me where I can buy online one that has exactly that sound?? Thanks and keep th good music ;)

    Peace

  • @MrZedasmeias Hi, thanks for the message. You can order the E Akebono scale Hapi Drum Original from: HapiTones (dot) com

  • what an amazing instrument, never seen/hear it before. i really enjoy your music

  • @Lomitik Thanks very much, appreciate it :)

  • ooo.. esta super genial

    aa quiero uno ;D

  • I got the G-major hapi for christmas, and since I have not put it down! The most beautiful thing I have ever heard. I will never be able to touch a woman like I do this drum!

  • Reminds me of the group Orbital and their song The Box

  • ur the guy who makes and sells these right? if so i gotta thank you man, u made an affordable hangdrum

and where do u get all these bad ass instruments? i saw the one thread video, that was the shit

  • how awesome would it be to have mastered this instrument :D

you're really good at this man you're awesome!!

  • @nirvanaisdeshit Thanks man !! :)

  • wow amazing i want one

  • SO WELL PLAYED MAN...HEART AND SOUL

  • @newageworld Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it !

  • I LOVE THIS, I bet this was invented in Africa with some natural resource and some how reproduced because I seen something similar in Mali, but anyways you SOUND GREAT LOVE IT!

  • WOW!!! I have heard a lot, but I never heard or thought this instrument existed! very cool!!! I want one!!!!

p.s. and how could anyone dislike this?? there are some real a-holes in cyberspace!

  • @slitherysnakes Thanks for the comment, Slithery, glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • this made me...... want to sleep...

  • Are they available in microtonal tunings? Seems a natural.

  • @hopefilleddream actually, I only need a few small sips, but thanks for your astute observations nonetheless.

  • @oddmusic Quite classy, my dear chap. Quite classy indeed.

  • @7SearchlightSoul7 watch some of his other videos he does a recording on his phone it sounds the same way, so how about you do YOUR research before you discount a mans ingenuity and art

  • i have a question, how long would it take the hapi drum to arrive if it's destination is to upstate new york? from california?

  • @munchkin809 takes about a week in transit with UPS ground delivery

  • @oddmusic 2 questions:

1: If you hit the top middle portion of the HEPI (right where it says the name), do you get a new sound like you do if you hit the same location on a Hang?

2: What are the differences between the HEPI and the PANART Hang drums (other than price)?

  • dude u droped ur headphones :)

  • That is one of my favorites... this is the piece that made me decide to get a Hapi drum :)

  • Can these be shipped to Israel? and if so, how much $ would it cost?

  • are these located in america? a vendor of sorts?

  • @TheDeadEndWins We sell them online at: hapitones (dot) com and they ship from California.

  • @oddmusic Can you do a review and show how to play 0:43 ? Thanks!

  • the 9 people who disliked this....honestly you have no ear for music, a great instrument nor a gooooood musician......nice work oddmusic keep the good vibes coming.....all the best to you man.

  • Love it!!! Unique and beautiful. And beautifully played!

  • what are made of??? aluminum???

  • @erikimba They are made out of steel.

  • I am buying one of these. I love the sound - reverb or not - it is awesome. You are a heck of a musician.

  • where could i buy one and how much?

  • im from the netherlands and wher can i order him :P???? i want to have him

en play on it !!! how much is it ?

  • That was awesome!

  • can these go out of tune?

  • @stephenokelly08 Not really, only if you bang on them super-hard repeatedly with drum mallets.... but normal mallet playing is fine too, just not insane banging, which would sound terrible as well.

  • Great job :)

Hmm any ideas how I can home made it?

It's 2kg propan tank? or something else?

  • Can these get shipped to New Zealand? and if possible how much in $NZD would it cost? Cheers

  • @username102030405 It about $130 NZD to ship to New Zealand. Australia and NZ cost more to ship than shipping to Europe unfortunately.

  • how this thing work....is it connected to some effect or this is the original sound...?

  • @MrPetrovskt That is the original sound, just using a microphone to record with, and a little added reverb

  • @MrPetrovskt that is the origonal sound there are no afects

  • @orotoi1 You can buy from the site, we've shipped a few to Greece before actually. And thanks for the comment ! :)

  • be aware that dudes composing sensibilities are extremely keen.

  • just beautyyyyyyfull

  • If I ever got this I'll die a happy person, Too bad I live in Egypt.

  • i think i'm just guna make one my self i have a tuner, bowl, and a metal cutting saw. do you mind telling me tuning?

  • It sounds almost like "playing" a wind-chime. :)

  • So, is this basically a hang drum?

  • @xXTHEDOUCHEBAGXx yes, since an actual hang drum is near impossible to come by.

  • @siilkk True, I think the cheapest one I could find was on ebay starting at 10,000 dollars...

  • Fantastic! Great editing too.

  • ***excellent***

  • they should make one where you can tune it somehow! would the tonalities change according to weather too?

  • Hey, im really really intrested in buying one of these and im wondering approximately how long the waiting time is? :)

  • where can i buy one of those!!? this guy is fkc awesome

  • @JaMs6903 Thanks. You can buy them from my website, we make them. HapiTones (dot) com. Or click on my user name (oddmusic) there a link on there too, thanks for checking it out.

  • filete!

  • If only I could get one its so beautiful as in sound wise... Oh and nice keyboard what is the brand Yamaha, Akai?

  • it sounds nice but it seems to make a sound when hit by the the hand instead of producing a clean note like the hang drum does. Or am i missing something?

  • @antonaone They do give you a stick to use to create crisper notes, but is sounds more fluid using the hands.

  • SUPER DRUM

  • where can i buy this? sounds amazing

  • @ROBINER9 You can get them online at HapiTones (dot) com

  • what is the akebono scale? it sounds beautifully sinister.

  • @StopTheMoti0n The Akebono scale is a traditional five-note Japanese musical scale. In a Western context, it can be thought of as a pentatonic version of the Aeolian mode. The notes on this particular Hapi Drum in E-Akebono are: E3 F#3 G3 B3 C4 E4 F#4 G4. Thanks for checking it out! -- john HapiTones (dot) com

  • @7SearchlightSoul7

Bro... Doesn't look like thousands of dollars worth of equipment to me....

A shitty old keyboard, and a very small mixing desk. I have more than this in my bedroom. As for the drum itself Id have no idea.

  • EPIC

  • Aha! I knew the scale sounded japanese, sounds similar to the Hirajoshi koto scale

  • @MichiNoSainou And you played some very interesting melodies with the drum, brilliant!

  • super son c'est beau

  • i dont know if i should buy a hapi UFO or 2 hapi slim drums. anyone?

  • wow. just, wow

  • does this rythem have a name on 45 seconds

  • That has to be the best thing i have ever heard! and @ wackydelly84 i feel the same way now! DAMNIT!!!! How in the hell am i gonna explain this to my wife when i buy one! lol

  • magical scale, brilliant playing mate!

  • @2ManyNoobs Thanks, mate!

  • SWEET! Really! Can't get a Pantam...think i'll get Hapi! Based on your video! lol, very nice job

  • @bbyrd009b Thanks for the comment, byrd!

  • Amazing. Almost sounds like a harp sometimes.

  • Awesome thing, and great played :D!!!

  • Wow thats an amazing sound. I think of a rainy day in an ancient Myan temple when I hear this. :P

  • just awesome

  • Iknew my mom's kitchen stuf was all musical instruments.. awesome.

  • so the sound waves make the metal vibrate and then they go out the hole in the back?that's fantastic, it creates and awesome sound!i would like to hear it without a microphone to try to see how it sounds in natural thingy...what i'm asking is does it produce enough sound for a big group of people listen to, for instance?

  • I would imagine the tongue cutting makes the tuning much easier than with a traditional hang drum. Cutting the price point by 3/4ths is even more awesome! The only downside is every trustfund hippy on earth is going to want one, and sleeping at a camping concert venue is going to become harder even harder!

  • ZOOMBINIS! lol this sounds like a computer game i played in elementary school. either way its pretty cool

  • It's like a bunch of tuning forks in a circle! Very nice sound, relaxing to listen to. Wish I could afford one so I could learn to play it.

  • @ElveeKaye Look for places online where

you can get instructions on how to make it

from an old EMPTY propane canister.

Google: How to make a hang drum!

    Namaste'

    Scot

  • Any idea where to get blank tanks to make one?

  • Que increible cosa esta, bello, muy bello!!!

  • Not nearly AS nice as a real panart hang, this is a hybred of Xylephone and metal drum, but sounds good enough to have fun with. I definately will check out the site.

  • interesting...

  • I really love the variety of instruments you play and how well you play each one is incredible. If you have made these songs I would like to really congratulate you on showing the best of each instruments abilities well.

  • That Hapi drum makes you Happy >.>

  • i want one

  • That would be pretty epic if you had a dude with like an Udu, and a Cajon next to just to add another layer, I really wanna get one of these thing.

  • Nice!

  • nice

  • I just found your Hapi Tones Radio page, God your music is so beautiful!

  • Oh FUCK that is awesome! I love bell tones, they sing me to sleep even better that strings... (I don't sleep like normal people do very often).

    God that's beautiful.

  • Very nice. Some parts reminds me of "Truman sleeps" by philip glass.

  • your how i imagine god would jam out if he picked up a hapi

  • i want one...

  • Great performance !

  • u see the parts, that are cut out, are different sizes, zo they vibrate faster or slower, tha depends, on the size, and a faster vibration gives a high tone, tc etc

  • How come hitting different sides of a round drum produce different notes?..

  • Is that a serious question ?????

  • @maillet420 Yes. Not everybody is an expert in acoustics, you know.
