  • btw im 14 :)

  • Anyways when I was little I would go to my nana's house for sleepovers only once in a while because she lives far away. she would sing this to me until i fell asleep and everytime i hear it it brings tears to my eyes because i wish she would still sing it. but im too old. I miss having sleepovers with my nana. she would play her harmonica for me and everything I love you Nana <3

  • EPIC GRATZ!!!

  • im reading all these comments below ne and it seems i am the only person under 20 years old to love this song!!! nice job btw, love it!

  • Even though I am in my 40s, I still try to fantasize my childhood dream occasionally

Let us not forget our childhood's need for fantasy.

  • Nice job, brings me back.

  • Thanks. Your voice is perfect for this song. I remember watching this as a little kid.

  • omg!!!! i loved this song when i was a little girl! i was looking at your songs and i came across this song i broke into tears!

  • Not one of my favourite songs, either, but it's certainly very popular. I did enjoy hearing it sung by Peter Yarrow himself though, when he came out to Hong Kong a couple of years ago.

  • Whew! Nice images! But folks, let's not confuse the pharmalogical effects of (***) (word) with (***) (acronym).

Still, this song makes me weepy. I saw P, P&M reprise it circa 1990 and I absolutely bawled....

And where the sealing-wax came from--I personally suspect a reference to Mister Dodgson's rhyme, The Walrus and the Carpenter. But then, we can dig symbols out of just about anything....

Thanks, Maestro, for this blast from the past, beautifully sung and colored!!!

    U-K-T

  • Hi

    Ukulele Katie...

Funny thing you should mention that one can dig symbols out of just about anything. Here upon You Tube is a 1982 rendition of "Puff" performed solo by Peter yarrow himself at Gertie's Folk City in NYC in which he explians all of the hidden drug references within "The Star Spangled Banner"...as he defends the true meaning of "Puff" (the loss of an innocent child's need for fantasy as he grows up).

    Peace,

    Stewball

  • Marvelous introductory rap. He makes a good case though reductio ad absurdem (I'm reminded of Arlo Guthrie's Pause of Mister Claus) but I continue to wonder why anyone would name a song character "J Paper" without some nefarious intention....Anyway, many thanks for sharing this lost gem!

  • Even with the "cannabinoid-image theory" it's sweeter than those awful normal cigarettes haha... either way, I prefer the simpler interpretation of this cute little folk song :)

  • cool

  • Nice job!

    Thanks Lewdite

  • That was... really cool.

  • Hello

    Lew...

I just realized the lyrics to which you have referred in your sidenotes (as they pertain to me.)

    "strings_and_sealingwax"...LOL

Now that is a funny one, indeed.

    Peace,

    Stewball

  • real cool i would like to know how to do some of the real thing you do if you are willing to share it would make me very happy camera, computer, and software?

    doc dean

  • I am using an iMac computer. Camera is on the computer and I use the program iMovie (which comes with the iMac computer). Pretty straight forward. Sometimes I use my regular Canon camera to shoot video but then I still use iMovie.

  • thank you so much very helpful

  • Well Lewdite Such a great rendition and I think you might have quite enjoyed it.

May we never be without Puff!!! LOL

    Take Care

    David

  • Very interesting--I was told that my playing of songs from the 1920s produces trip-like sensations when played on Windows Media Player. I don't buy the drug thing, never have. Thanks for posting this.

  • I love this song!!

  • Glad you decided to do this one, you did a beautiful job of it!

  • I got a whole new vision about this song Thanks for sharing.5***** G.G.

  • This song makes me cringe. The parody though is another matter. 1st 2 verses

Flush was a magic toilet the finest in the land

With golden bells and cherubs all around his ornate pan

His pipes were made of silver his cistern was the same

And down came crystal waters when you pulled that golden chain

Flush the magic toilet lived by the sea

And flourished in the autumn mist in a land called Peterlee

Flush the magic toilet flowed into the sea

Polluting all the beeches for the folk like you and me

  • I was told years ago that this song was really about drugs--and in fact we were not allowed to learn it at school. After seeing the psychedelic imagery here I'm beginning to think

    that this rumour was true!

  • Hello

    Lew...

This is waaaay too much and really, really far out there! There is no need for mental imagery nor mind altering chemical inhalation/ingestion when we have such colorful, psychedelic images presented right before us on a silver platter.

I shall never think of "Puff" in the same way ever again...lol!

This performance was EXTRAORDINARY and very-much appreciated by yours truly.

    Peace,

    Stewball

  • Not to worry.... I haven't lit up since 1970. :)

  • wild effects!

  • Great SONG!
