  • the match was 3-1?? idont think that play wouldve made any difference!? lol

  • (continued from below) the most calm people I have met in my entire life and he would not have reacted like that if John Cook had not said something way out of line. That is the definition of a bad sport. As for the players, if you watch the 2008 match, when Nebraska won to go to the elite 8 the players spralled out on the floor like they had won the national championship for nearly a minute before shaking hands. The UW ladies cheer and then immediatley go to shake hands. Class acts. Go Huskies.

  • A: I was there sitting nearly on the back line, and I saw it, it was in. I am used to seeing D1 men hitting so the ball so it didnt seem that fast to me and I was able to watch it hit the line.

B: Look at the video, if you didnt notice the ball is on the line? Yea thats in. As for Mr. StarsThrower up here, the ball has deformed on the ground whilst on the line so its not an artifact of the camera's point of view.

C: Jim McLaughlin is one of the greatest coaches of all time and is also one of

  • did you see how the nebraska player in the back court ran up to the line judge screaming, TERRIBLE SPORTSMANSHIP. NEBRASKA VOLLEYBALL HAS POOR SPORTSMANSHIP. regardless of the ball's whereabouts they should not have went about protesting in that way. "i said to him, the ball was out, and he got upset" of course he did, WHY EVEN SAY THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE?! LET IT GO. it's not like nebraska would have beaten Penn State.

  • nebraska coach is a sore loser.. a sore loser who goes down as one of the best coaches in college volleyball history

  • CALIFORNIA destroyed Washington in the next game anyway...hahaha!!

  • @rickywebb28 RIGHT!?! ahaha thats what im sayin!! lol

  • That's Nebraska for ya. Just like the 2009 Big 12 championship in football where they swear they got cheated. Nebraska where whining lives.

  • wat is weird is that I've seen a vid from a different news station and they're freeze frame shows the ball out so i think this vid might actually might be a fake. lol.

  • Im nuetral but i think the ball was in... And i also think john cook sounds like a sore looser, 1 play doesnt blow a game!

  • I love how they freeze the ball as it's right on the line and he says "That's IN!" What a nice job of freezing it to attempt to justify the call. All one has to do is watch the next couple of frames after that to see that the ball was clearly still on the way down and then it lands OUT of bounds.

  • The ball was out. Watch the shadow of the ball. It tells everything.

  • Okay, really Nebraska fans? I know you guys love the huskers but that ball clearly clipped the back line.

  • I would like to see Hannah Werth fight Jim McLaughlin .... She would snap him like a twig body slam him in into the ground so hard it would take him a week to wake up.

  • you huskers need to get a life and all your complaints about bad calls---just win that would solve everything ---i think this virius started with osborne back in the 70's and still to this day you guys gotta complain---when you only score 6 points against a&m you dont deserve to win---just win---blow people out ----golly and you were never ahead in the texas game last yr except for about 5 minutes--now bad calls in volleyball!!! god is out to get you guys barry switzer had a hotline to god haha

  • I think everyone is missing the most important point. There are bad calls in EVERY game,oh how I know. But you have to react with class. Cook DIDN'T! Either way it shouldn't come down to ONE call. NE should have handled the game in full & they wouldn't have had to complain about ONE call. They are supposed to know that at their level of play. Cook smugly said, "That was out!" then adds, "nice match". Washington coach should have let it slide but really Cook asked for a negative reaction.

  • I'd just like to see the video made freely available from that angle so that I could see for myself whether or not the ball was in or out. It looked out, but I could be wrong. Either way, Nebraska lost and it's time to move on unfortunately.

  • What a stupid jerk, you are not going to win every game john cook, regardless the ball was in or out that is not how you take a loss, who do you thing you are? grow some balls and next time you lose show some sportsmanship! asshole!

  • The second thing this conspiracy needs is evidence supporting the "doctored video" theory. This was a live video feed broadcast nationwide, so it shouldn't be hard to find an original (i.e. unaltered) copy. Somebody produce it, and then we can have a good discussion about the conspiracy.

  • @GencoA2009 search this video on youtube. (Nebraska v. Washington Volleyball 12 10 2010) It shows slow motion of the shot. As it goes past the line it is hard to see with the NU defender getting in the way but this you can't deny, the ball bounces once and then in the stands. if you look at this clip above the stop the ball as hitting the line and then you see it hit 2 feet past the line. No way to have it hit twice and bounce out of play. Impossible.

  • @schuhbdoo I don't get your point. It doesn't make sense. I agree it was out. I wish there were a better video, but really our minds are fully capable of following the trajectory of the ball and determining that the ball looked like it went out (even if we can't pause on the actual frame where the ball hit the ground). The freeze frame that this video does show is not when the ball actually hit the ground, it is an optical illusion due to the fact that a camera captures a 3D scene in 2D.

  • @Adidaswim1 My point is the sportscast is going way out of its way to say this is in. That is a complete lie. The sportscaster even said, it sounds like he is a sore loser. I say that is a little slanted and the video is wrong. They freeze it to make it look like it landed on the line. Child please.

  • @schuhbdoo I've seen the video, and we can't see where the ball lands. I know it only bounces once, but who cares? The important thing is whether the ball contacts the line, and this video doesn't show it. Nor do I see in the above video (and I have literally inspected every frame) that the ball hits 2 feet past the line.

  • I enjoy a good conspiracy theory too, but the first thing you have to have for a really good conspiracy is a well developed motivation for each player in the plot. This theory requires 3 players: UW, officiating staff, and journalists. There's obvious motivation for UW, but what is the motivation for the refs and KOMO news? Money's always a good one, but without evidence, it doesn't carry much weight. Somebody please produce some documentation of a money trail.

The second thing is evidence su

  • @GencoA2009 It only takes a homer ref on the line to pull this off. He decided to blow the call. No, not the classic conspiracy but just let the kids play the game. You had 10 people rush the line judge on that play. you think it was really that close????? The homer ref screwed the pooch on that one. Shame on him.

  • @schuhbdoo You do realize that the referees are not chosen by the home team, right? From the NCAA Div I Women's Volleyball Championship Handbook: "At the regionals and finals, the women’s volleyball committee will assign referees and line judges." I also looked at the committee members, and not one of them appears to be affiliated with the UW. So again, I ask for evidence supporting any of these accusations.

  • OMG - how many questionable sets could/should have been called against the Nebraska setter?? Calls go both ways - it was a close call, get over it. ...In hind site, maybe McLaughlin should have just said to Cook "Enjoy the plane ride home..."

  • Nice little hitch in the video replay. The talking head saying "sounds like the Nebraska coach is a sore loser," after the Washington coach has to be restrained. Nice. Watching it myself, it was out by a foot. No matter. All that home-cooking didn't do any good as the Huskies were sent packing in 3 sets to Cal. Ha.

  • Here is another link to the same video but shot behind the UW players. Notice there is only one bounce before it goes into the stands. Then go to the doctored video by the sport station, you see it stopped then started, the bounce is 2 to 3 feet behind the line then bounces into the stands. you can't have it both ways. Once bounce means it was 2 to 3 feet out!!!!!

  • @schuhbdoo where?

  • @phiho4 do a search on (Nebraska v. Washington Volleyball 12 10 2010) on youtube. it is the news story. I couldn't embed the link after a few tries I stopped.

The ball bounces once!!!!!!! The doctored replay shows one bounce after the still shot. How did the ball bounce once in the slow mow shot behind the UW players and land in the stands. Makes you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • what's all this talk about shadow? there are lights all over the place at all angles, how can you be so convinced to base your judgment off a shadow?

  • Video time-segment 29 has been deleted and replaced with an extended time-segment 28, which is why the bounce of the ball away from the line is so rapid it cannot really be seen...we never see real time-segment 29, which shows the actual bounce and where on the court it occurred. UWs stop action "on the line" is an artifact of the camera's point of view, prior to the ball hitting the floor.

  • @StarsThrower Great catch! It was a mistake plain and simple.

  • @sckeenan6 And if I'm a Husker fan, I would still call it like I saw it. Just look at @sportsfan4138 - he is a Nebraska fan, and he is telling the truth here. Even if the point was awarded to the Huskers, it would merely have tied Set 4 up, not sending it to a Set 5 like most people here are claiming.

Also, you joined youtube just to comment on this video? I say you're the one talking smack here.

  • @mightytotems Mighty totems, what are you talking about? We had the lead by a point! Neb: 26, WU: 25. That call gets called, in, and it's set point, Nebraska goes to set 5. Sadly, this was one of the worst officiating crews I've seen, they weren't fit to officiate a high school game, let alone a major Div. 1 VB NCAA match.

  • Comment removed

  • Also, having been there and not trying to comment on what ALL happened from a bit of video that the cameraman caught...John Cook was no innocent in that altercation. He initiated aggression and then said something (I do not know exactly what) that was obviously inflammatory. Then HE KEPT TALKING! So instead of having ANY sportsmanship, he drew attention to himself in the worst possible way rather than letting us celebrate those wonderful competitors. WHY would the winning coach incite something

  • that ball being called out would have not sent the match to a 5th set but rather would have simple tied it up again.

I was AT the match, supporting my beloved Huskers, and they came up a bit short. Period. There is not "conspiracy theory" as many would like to believe. The NCAA, not the individual institutions, assign the officials (including the linesmen) to each site. They are not local people brought in to "homer" anyone. They are PEOPLE, doing a job as best they can, mistakes and all.

  • @sportsfan4138 Actually the point with the controversial call was game point for Nebraska and winning it would have sent it to a fifth game. UW then won the following two points to win the match. But I agree that neither of the two coaches were innocent. Not the best representation of NCAA volleyball at all.

  • @sportsfan4138 Yes it would have sent it to a fifth set. We were up by a point. If the ball was called out, we would have gotten another point, which would have made the score 27-25 (set to Nebraska).

  • @GencoA2009 The freeze frame does not show it landing on the line! Watch again, it's still in the air just above the line. Watch the clip at 30 seconds, and you will see that the ball was out. We should have played to a 5th set. That said, regardless of crappy calls (the up ref should never officiate Div. 1 games, much less high school), Nebraska made too many errors that night, and had we not done that, we would not have been it that position.

  • @HCGurl23 The clip at full speed at 0:30 does not show anything of value. There simply aren't enough frames when shown at full speed to determine anything. The panning of the camera and the video compression for youtube doesn't help.

That's why we should focus on the freeze frame, and like @mightytotems said, the ball appears flattened to me, which means it was in contact with the ground. Does it appear flattened to you? And if it was not touching, where's the shadow? It should be visible.

  • @GencoA2009 If you focus on the freeze frame, there is no shadow of the ball because it wasn't close enough to the ground, it was still in the air as it passed the line. Who knows what would have happened if the call were reversed. I say UW outplayed Nebraska this match regardless.

  • @GencoA2009 Freeze it at 30, and you still don't see it, are you kidding me? Wow. Watch the slow freeze clip and pause it at 39 seconds! The ball didn't bounce and hit the floor until it was several feet out. When they pause it it the freeze frame, the ball is still in the air! That being said, my Huskers have a lot of talent coming back, and a better conference schedule, that will better ready them for the NCAA tournament. I think Hannah Werth will become our go-to player.

  • @HCGurl23 Correction: 38 seconds.

  • @chickensown is clearly a BRILLIANT conversationalist! Way to show your overwhelming lack of intelligence. Just like your boy....throw a tantrum when you have no intelligent answer. Unfortunately for you, now EVERYONE has gotten to see how childish you are. Grow up....or continue to also be an embarrassment.

  • On the replay, KOMO simply paused the video as the ball passed OVER the line, not when the ball hit the floor. You can see the shadow meet the ball at least a foot out of bounds.

  • @timasdf It was in, because the bottom of the ball was flat - meaning that it already hit the floor. Also, in volleyball, ANY part of the ball hits the line then it's in.

The ball had little top-spin, so the ball hit the line, pressed, and skidded out.

  • @mightytotems You're simply wrong. Check shadows on it, the ball was out and the TV station paused it before it hit the ground. Look at all the Nebraska bench once the ball hits, not one person thought the ball was in. Biased? Yeah sure, but don't you think if there was a sliver of a doubt, one of the people would stop? I understand you're a huskies fan and that's cool. But there's no need for you or @godawgs06 to get on here on talk smack. We don't need to get into that kind of thing.

  • @sckeenan6 You're assuming that any of the bench people, on both teams, would have a better view than the line judge. Also, the "shadow" was there through the entire trajectory due to camera angle, but the bottom of the ball was flat indicating that it already hit the floor.

FYI, I'm impartial to both teams since I go to Illinois, so frankly you insinuating that volleyball fans across the country will only support their own teams is insulting. Not to mention that I wasn't talking smack at all.

  • @mightytotems I'm not saying they have a better view but they had the correct view. If you're impartial, why are you writing on here? I'm not saying they only support their own teams, but in this case, the entire team 'acting' to get a point doesn't seem logical. It would have sent it to the 5th set and i'm talking smack? I'm saying the call was incorrect and anyone saying otherwise doesn't have clear focus. @pickleicious said it right with the comments below.

  • Heard NCAA is possibly going to suspend Washington coach for rest of tournament.

  • John Cook ~

    "WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

  • The ball was pause when it crossed the line... not when it hit the line! if you watch rigt after it is paused, i doesns't bounce until like 2ft after the line!!!! CLEARLY OUT!

  • @chickensown2013 The rules are pretty clear when defining IN and OUT. It doesn't matter that the ball doesn't bounce until after the line. The salient question is whether or not any part of the ball contacted the line during the bounce. It appears to me that it did indeed contact the line, but if it doesn't to you, then it's something we can agree to disagree on. But where it bounces from is absolutely irrelevant as far as the rules of volleyball are concerned.

  • The replay does nothing but prove the ball was out. KOMO simply paused the video as the ball passed OVER the line. You can see the shadow meet the ball 2ft out of bounds. Would have been nice to see the game settled on the court.

  • Nice match, the ball was out. Coach Cook just stating facts. Why would McLaughlin go ballistic when Cook walks away? Oh well, I guess the football team will just have to kick some Huskie ass 3 times in one year to offset this homer of a deplorable call. Go Big Red.

  • Wait a sec, I wrote to @baldpitcher first, because he implied it. @flyoverus2, you definitely said it. Either one of you can provide evidence though.

  • @flyoverus2 It's pretty off topic, but if you read over what you wrote, you did not actually say it. Anyway, if you are going to make such an accusation against a news organization, care to post or link to your unedited video evidence? I would like to see it.

  • The shadow were it hits flickers in the replay ??? Does not look right in slow mo

  • you obviously are as poor a sport as your boy. try to remember these are GAMES...not life or death. GAMES. Games that have humans playing them, scoring them, watching them! If one were to watch every second of every match, one would find many instances of human calls in favor and out of favor for whomever you are supporting. Win at all cost and cry like a little girl when you lose (and then LIE about it) IS...make no mistake...IS an embarrassment. Big Red athletics is better than that!

  • @sportsfan4138 STF UP!!!

  • Clearly an edited replay. Look at the live action film and then the replay "showing the ball on the line". Game 4 stolen. Guess sportsfan4138 didn't talk to every alum - I don't agree Cook is an embarrassment.

  • John Cook is an embarrassment to the University, the state, and every Husker alumnus! I am ashamed of his behavior....and his lying! Too bad the young womens' amazing season will have the last moment being of that kind of behavior.

  • @sportsfan4138, @tglarsen

Are you serious? Haha I'm not sure whether or not to consider you two as jokers or serious. John Cook as the embarrassment? He pointed no fingers, he walked away from the situation. I'd say that takes some gonads if that we me. Clearly a missed call although this newsperson and station obviously don't seem to agree. Yes I can see the video but why stop there and not slow-mo throughout? Just saying that the call was incorrect as was the newsperson for his comments

  • @sckeenan6 Yes, I know there is a 'we' in the middle there, should be were* but I ran out of characters.

& @ TWAVE74 - Poor sportsmanship by who? Nebraska's coach or U-Dub's coach? Hate to say it but the Washington guy looks like the fool for letting that of all things get to him in that way. Nebraska' coach walked away without an officer.

    - I'm not saying Washington didn't win that game or didn't deserve it, but it should've gone to a 5th set.

  • @sportsfan4138 doesn't matter!!! How many volleyball championships has neb. won????? And what about WU????? HMMMMMM...... NOT AS MANY AS NEBRASKA YOU RETARD!!!!!!

  • And by the way reporter... it's pronounced delAno not delauno?! YOUR RETARDED

  • And by the way @chickensown2013...it's spelled "YOU'RE" not "YOUR". When you're insulting others, it's best not to demonstrate that you are little better.

  • I am a fan of great volleyball...and have no tie to any school playing in this match. BUT...I think something looks really funny about that edit and camera work. There just happens to be a 'jump' in the image right where the ball lands...and it just doesnt feel right.

  • @baldpitcher The frame that was shown frozen clearly shows the ball to be touching the line, which would make it in. Are you implying that KOMO deliberately doctored the frame (to an already broadcast video feed) to show the ball in contact with the line?

  • @GencoA2009 Yep = that's what I'm saying - not implying.

  • John Cook is the best coach in the entire world!!!! Washington Huskies, you blow

  • @chickensown2013 Really.... Cook acts like a poor sport in the handshake and he's the best coach? You don't throw those little comments when congratulating the other team. (Especially when it was in and you look like an idiot) Thanks for showing your class, as Coach Jim is an amazing coach and deserves more than just a cheap shot comment at the handshake.

  • 'missvolleyballgal' PUT DOWN THE CRACK PIPE honey! The ball was CLEARLY out by about 2 feet! NO ONE - not even the official who made that call - thought that ball was in, but since that would have evened the match and sent it to a 5th set - which obviously uw would've lost - it was going to be called out regardless. The only poor sportsmanship being displayed on this is by uw fans who keep trying to make excuses for the officals.

  • @VSFaustintx THANK YOU!! NICE POINT!

  • @VSFaustintx well, in my eyes it was in. you obvioulsy have to right to your own opinion! im a die hard husky fan, im not asking you to be. The huskers played some incredible volleyball, as did the huskies. Regardless if the ball was out or not- it was a great game and a great atmosphere. no need to be a sore loser :)

  • Whether the ball was out or not, poor sportsmanship.

  • Oh...but the Huskies will pay for this one. See you Dec 30 for the Husker destruction of the Huskies in the Hollywood bowl. Yee haw! Go Huskers!

  • @dj40dj40 The Hollywood bowl???? Do you even watch sports or just enjoy making idiotic comments on public sites? It's the Holiday Bowl, and it must suck to get knocked down into the Holiday after 2 bowls pass on you. That's what you get for being greedy! Big 12 stuck it to you as a farewell! Sad, as these fans are completely different than the kind respectful ones at the Football games.

  • oh boo hoo, Cook. 500 people? how about the other 5,000 people witnessing the ball hitting the back line. Go back to where the cows are!! UW all day, everyday!

  • @missvolleyballgal you are really dumb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you got dropped as a baby! noone loves you!

  • @chickensown2013 yeah, thats what happened. am i not allowed to say what i think? you sure are handling this maturely aren't you.

  • @missvolleyballgal

there are cows in Nebraska? Whaa? Huh? Really? Is that like saying there is burnt coffee in Seattle?

  • @9wicket Lol! Good one. Yeah, Starbucks sucks! Sadly we have those in Nebraska :(

  • @missvolleyballgal Thanks for stereotyping all of us Nebraska fans. You know, we do have cities here...just with less crime, and better schools, and a hell of a lot less rain! Yes, we have a lot of cattle (cows implies female only), but when you eat a steak, it probably came somewhere in the midwestern region.

  • Wow....nice video edit..OK not that nice. The ball was clearly out.

  • i agree!!!!!!
