  • Such sweet music. Most enjoyable.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Time goes so quickly - great song of the era..and the vocal is wonderful.....thanks!

  • nice one, with thanks.

  • Thanks for the recording, photo montage and history of both MIss Wiley and the Ziegfeld building. I hadn't heard her sing for a while. She's as enchanting as ever. And what a treat to see inside the Ziegfeld.

  • MMMMMMMMMMMMMmm! It doesn't get any better!

    Keep up the good work!

  • As good as it gets. Brava! TY for posting this gem!

  • The Russ Columbo version of this wonderful song is on Victor, and he sings the Verse, which leads to the meaning of the Chorus in this sing.

  • Just wonderful. Precision. The phrasing seems to be from a better place. How I love to listen to Lee.

  • Thanks for this. I've never heard this rendition before. it's really lush. The one that I heard is from her "Night in Manhattan" where she sang in minimal arrangement. I always LOVE her voice and the way she phrases. She is a perfectionist! Her concert at Carnegie Hall is one of my favourite records of her. I think she is the best when she performs live.

  • Sensational. She and Connie Boswell IMHO were the cream of the crop!

  • Lee Wiley!!! I love her!!!!! This song is one of my favorites, it makes my cry! That music is the most beautiful music ever, you can't compare it with the garbage of today!

  • Thanks for the nice words. I saw the Hopper exhibit today and got a close look at the famous "Usherette"--the one with the solitary blonde woman hiding behind the maroon velvet drapes.

He's definitely a poets' painter. Wish you could have been here to see the exhibit; don't know how long it will stay here.

  • I saw the Hopper exhibit in Boston last summer - his paintings blow me away. I like the "Usherette" painting also.

  • Yes, those theaters are gone forever; not one left in Washington and I'm pretty sure the same goes for NYC and other cities. Ah, those gilded facades, velvet drapes, as in the famous Hopper painting, and--above all--those wonderful balconies bursting with adolescent sex hormones and source of the late film critic Pauline Kael's title, "I Lost it at the Movies."

  • New York still has Radio City Music Hall, of course. Many other cities have belatedly realized what a treasure these theaters were, and some have been beautifully restored -- like the Castro in San Francisco.

  • Very pretty voice; nice interpretation of a good song. You're right about old theatres...my town's elderly movie house (medium sized, but lovely late-20s theatre) finally closed last month. The corporation that owned it said they couldn't earn enough money as a one-screen house, but it was too small to convert to multiscreen. Sigh!

  • A lot of these old movie theaters have been converted to venues for live stage shows -- is that possible in your town?

  • Like many American cities these days, we have a developer-run city council that is solidly on the "multi-use development" bandwagon. Most likely a central retail business (a restaurant, perhaps) will set up where the seats were, preserving the ceiling and wall decorations; then the backstage and other areas will become offices and a couple of small but expensive condominium units.

  • ...and a Starbuck's where the restroom used to be.

  • Impressive interpretation, I fully second the previous comment: it indeed is one of her very first records, but Wiley's maturity is remarkable.

  • The song and Ms. Wiley's voice is charming! I just love the old theaters, what great places to escape to for a few hours, fantasize ,dream a little and hear some lovely music. I am getting addicted to these great old songs. Thank you.

  • I believe that this is just her second record. She was only 22 but there is a world weariness to her voice already. Thanks for posting.
