  • Intelligent thoughtful songs. I was blessed to be in college when this group came out. We had some great song writers that time. America, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce......I could go on, but my wish is that the young writers of today go back to this kind of melodic, thought provoking music.

  • @casper1918 They have been, and for well over a decade. Check out the Jayhawks, Gillian Welch, Son Volt, Ben Sollee, The Decemberists, Midlake, , and many others. Radio as we grew up knowing it (I'm 43) was DESTROYED in the 80's and never recovered. The great acts I mentioned get practically zero airplay outside of college radio and the rare exception like KGSR in Austin & similar stations.

  • @Ldale11 Sad but true

  • RIP Mr.Dan

  • watta verry nyc song ever!!

  • who is the bass player?

  • @legionjdw

    Calvin Samuels

  • @legionjdw The bass player is Calvin "Fuzzy" Samuels

  • Valentines day :(

  • rip dan.

  • --- ME = lonely people ---

  • imissed seeing them in moncton nb i will always regret it

  • This song makes me cry :-(

  • One of my all time favorite songs.

  • i saw gerry and dewey getting a star for "america"on hollywwod blvd monday...

they looked kinda square in suits...lol...

  • Gotta love the sound of a 12 string...

  • simple words can litteraly save lives god bless america

  • I have always loved this song!! Thank you!!

  • God Bless you Dan.

  • I just bought the dvd of this session (Musikladen) by America and I am watching it now. It is awesome and anyone who is watching any of these videos needs to get this!

  • Dan Peek and even John Lennon really influenced me to try the harmonica and I'm trying my best to learn songs on it especially Beatles songs and Perhaps some America the band songs if I can find a song book of America the band I might learn that harmonica solo in Rainbow Song and Lonely People that would be so cool I'd love to try that

  • 1:08-1:09..Was it intended that the bass part plays a different chord?

  • On my first overseas deployment I learned how to play guitar.. a friend started me out on a 12 string.. I STILL have that guitar.. 38 years later. I wanted to learn because of this group.. Loved their music.

  • What a true loss that they were never able to come together before Dan's passing and play as America. I cannot even imagine just how magical that would have been. It is just such a heartbreak.

  • These guys were a big part of the soundtrack of my life growing up in Virginia Beach in the 70s.Beautiful song beautifully played

  • @LLB61959 I also grew up in Va. Beach in the '70s...

  • six people never been alone

  • that drummer looks pissed off about something or somebody.

  • I am so glad that I rediscovered America. They are so talented and their music makes my heart smile. I wish I was old enough for Gerry back then. Love them love their talent and love the fact they sound better live than on their recordings. That is true talent.

  • @sweetied221 Your comment reflects my feelings exactly, about everything! My favorite song by them. I really hope that Gerry and Dewey will continue to tour since I never got to see them. :(

  • Koletski , maybe you should brush your teeth and take a shower!

  • These guys look exactly how I always imagined them when I heard them on the radio. Laid back, long hair, and full of talent. Great band!

  • @0Heavy0Metal0 Should of had hair cut though. The hair looked real bad. Like they needed a wash.

  • how could 6 people not like this. they were awesome.

  • Reminds me of when i used to hear this on the radio inthe 80's. These guys had to have influenced coldplay and many other bands. I could of swore it was a coldplay song as soon as that piano came in and then the vocals.

  • cuando la música se hacia con los huevos y el corazón

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • R.I.P. Dan Peek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who Knew,a Band starts singing about some Horse that nobody has thought to name. Was I Ever That Young:)

  • @grogg1313

    no, 6 people are lonely

  • @lovetownsend - your wrong!! 2,134 are lonely!,,

  • I push the like button ever time I hear this song... I love it!!! simple enough i think... There your sign.. lmao

  • Amazing and gifted musicians, they make it to seem so simple...

  • I hear and read comments, such as here, by those who say in part, "this is so much better than today's music". Are things really that bad now? Maybe they are. And I feel fortunate to have grown up listening to this music. Strange, though; I'd had all their albums for years, but it's only recently that I've come to know "Hat Trick" as one of their finest albums.

  • HIT IT... that also means like button too!!!

  • One of the best concerts I ever saw in the '70's...America!

  • Just great!

  • Feeling blessed to have these beautiful gems to listen to in these turbulent times. How lucky to be able to tap into this music and be transported to another time and place. Ironically, it is YT that allows this "time travel" to occur - a brilliant mix of cutting edge technology preserving a rich history of musical genius.

  • Lots of talent in one band, distinctive sound and absolutley no jumping around look at me bullshit! GREAT BAND.

  • great, nothing but great

  • AMAZING... never gets old..

  • A masterpiece!

  • Paying homage to Neil Young.

  • Just saw Dewey and Gerry last night in Phili at the Keswick!! I posted it at my channel

  • Luv Gerry Dewey and Dan

  • feliz navidad!!!!

  • america is the best

  • Love you Dan

  • RIP Dan

  • wow...any Band that sonds live like the record is baddass in my book....will miss him....all my Hero's are going!

  • @emewz Nowadays, you cannot find any new "bands" that can do this!

  • Wow!!!! I had no idea Dan had passed away till I just happened to come by here. He's with his Lord and Savior playing in The Heavenly Choir. You left a great impression here with us, Dan. God bless.

  • FOREVER ALONE!

  • This is so wonderful!

  • Fantástic group beatiful.

  • sorry i just started listening 2 America so i need 2 ask who sings this song?

  • @SmileySmileAM

Dan Peek is singing lead on this. Gerry Buckley has glasses and is on Piano. Dewey Bunnell has the beard.

  • @cabmandu groovy stuff hey...

  • O.W.S. theme song

  • just timeless beauty ....... never see this kind of stuff ever again ...

  • what a lovely voice Dan! you got me teareyed...hit it...awesome.

  • One of my fav. I love this bAnd

  • Thanks Dan and wife Catherine who composed this song which is my fave of the band! RIP Dan, everything is alright...God bless.

  • how lovely! beautiful voices harmony and instruments arrangement! i hadn t heard it for almost 40 years...beautiful America, beautiful song...san francisco in the 70s, sigh...

  • Wow! What a great video of a very beautiful song by a band I love so very much!!! BobbyK

  • The riff almost sounds like Radiohead's Karma Police?..

  • @peterrchristiansen you mean radioheads karma police sounds like this riff..

  • @head5338 oh is this song really older than karma police?

  • Dan received Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior, so yeah, he is FULLY at peace and SO MUCH MORE than that. Dan could NOT be in better hands. God has that same love for each and every person, but no one is saved until he or she

repents from his or her sin and makes Christ the Lord of His life as his or her Savior. God is NOT willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance, 2 Peter.

  • @ColonialPetersen *throws up*

  • @amxmachine

Maybe you will fell better IF you embrace some rock solid truth. But then you would have to humble

    yourself.

  • Beatiful, fantástics musics

  • I'm a dumbass. I always thought Dewey had sang this.

  • @StanBennet

Just because you forgot something, how does that make you a DA? Everyone forgets things. God loves you man. turn to Christ Jesus in repentance from sin and in faith receive Him as your Lord and Savior. Dan Peek did, see his interview with Ross right here at you tube.

  • @ColonialPetersen Amen brother! However, DA is an expression I use on myself lightly when it comes to trivial stuff! God bless!

  • @StanBennet

    Thanks Stan; take care. Gar

  • @ColonialPetersen Well said my friend, well said.

  • @mydogblue1

    Thanks, God bless. Gar

  • I could not believe that DAN PEEK died this summer. Shocked does not begin to describe how I feel. He was and always will be my favorite singer, songwriter, and multi- instrumentalist in AMERICA. more important, LONELY PEOPLE (a song that I can relate to) and OLD VIRGINIA (from HEARTS) were the best songs that her wrote and sang. What a shame that there were no reunion concerts before his death. He will definitely be missed.

  • Great song, great musicians. Not such wannabe-honks and Hollywood-freaks like today.

  • Strong

  • One of the most under rated bands. You just can't find this quality in music today.

  • @GNO89 You said it. It brings forth a peace of mind, heart, and soul. My eyes are watering listening to each of these clips.

  • @GNO89 agreed:)) if only their whre more like this band? Where when.why has all the pepole gone to hip hop three lined shit?where is america? We are so mixed now, what we-going to do question-Great songs Have meaning-heart sothings we can relate to . Thats what makes life love song real. Where are you know what are you teaching yours? Lok in the mirror, ask yourself is this who i am?

  • @GNO89 AMEN BROTHER!

  • @GNO89 I was lucky to see them live back in 1991 when i turned 18 and instantly cried when i heard their songs because I remembered being a kid in the late 70s singing to their songs. Im so sad because I love these guys and i love REAL music and not todays' trash

  • A great band. Thanks for the memories. Channel 30 , the first independent TV station in Jax, FL used to sign off with this song and showed the lunar landing. Amazing harmony!

  • our way to be is One with all in all motions single or with couple whoe cares we go as we came alone but we gain in experience right

  • i can never get how to play twelve strings guitar.

  • wow says it all

  • Drink from the silver cup .... keep your eye on the prize there is love all around you if you get up and give it

  • Happy Birthday Dan Peek, R.I.P.

  • The only song I can sort of play the harmonica to. Love this song, love their timeless music.

  • Rest in Peace, Dan Peek.

  • Drinking from the same beer bottle. " hey! can I have that beer back please?" said the keyboard to the guitar player. Their modesty only exceeded by their greatness.

  • A classic!

  • back then white people were unaware that they could play bass.

  • Damn, they don't make music like this these days. Believe that.

  • me senti identificado enseguida al leer el titulo..

  • Sounds like America!!!

  • Sounds like Neil Young.

  • we are never lonley we live to give and recive, with Love

  • Awwwe Brother Dan..cant wait to meet you.

  • two thumbs up America...I LOVE ALL YOUR SONGS!

  • AUM

what a nice rumble that OM has doesn't it?

they didn't even know they were creating eternal melodies...

the voices of the 70's ; ) nice

  • Love America! and this song! thank you for sharing!

  • simple the best i love you muahhhhhhh

  • thanks for the comment, in that God sends us a message of love by angels I agree with you ... thank you. with love beremj

  • 1:22 Kyle Orton.

  • 5 lonely people are going to stay lonely.

  • @sbollmeyer1 sad to say this but since then the population has went up by a mere 20% from 5 to 6 =)

  • NOW DAN PEK IS DEAD, MICHAEL JACKSN IS DEAD, IM LONELY, I NEED HIS MUSIC, PLEASE GOD DONT TAKE GERRY BECKLEY AWAY, PLEASE!!!!

  • @beremj29 ; Don't despair over those whom God uses to bless us and sing to us. They are messengers sent to us from God to remind us that He loves and cares for us. Dan Loved Jesus and sang " Lonely People" to remind us about His love for us! Dan would point you to the One he loved so much and sang about in this song......Jesus.

  • I think I wore this album out as a kid/teenager. It was always there, behind the heavy metal...How sad Dan Peek died too early.

  • @Gimmeshelter11 they wore the airwaves out with this one - but it was worthy

  • so close to the vinyl cut but much better live :)

  • Rest in Piece Daniel Peek!!!! you will be missed!!!! with that adorable smile in your younger years! wonderful voice love ya !!! i know im younger but still!

  • Amo essa banda! I love America!

  • 0:15 Anyone notice the electric guitar player takes a sip of beer? LOL.

  • reading Dan's autobiography right now, watching this, makes me feel like I know the 3 !! great music, great feeling ... left for 'ALL' to profit from forever .... RIP man !!

  • I never "wiki" to see the story behind the song before writing - because the writer's life experience or inspiration was often for THEIR journey, not ours.

    Peace,

    V

  • RACISM SUCKS PASS IT ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @weewaa101I wish you could change maybe you will but if you won't then ......... May your hate turn on you and completely consume you till you cease to exist! One day i I hope you get to feel all the pain you have caused others with your hate. It's people like you that ruin the world !!!! Your stupid coments have the power to ruin someones life! I really wish you could feel that kind of pain....

  • @weewaa101 my god why are you so racist?

  • @doctorw2, not everyone wants to accept others of different colors. The critic could also be a black fellow who does not like other blacks.

  • @sandinyourshoes oh my god dont tell me your a self hating black person who doesnt like other black people thats the worst form of hate.

  • He has now drank from the silver cup

  • I just read that Mr. Peek had passed.....and I am sad.....another part of my youth.....gone......RIP, Mr Peek.....

  • I listen in amazement when I see and hear a song like this one performed live ....and the live quality mimics the released recording which is rarely done these days.

  • God fills peoples hearts with the most wonderful words and feelings. And we can not help but sing the song back to him - just like children do when no one is listening - we sing because we have to - we sing we dance because we can not help our selves - and God looks down from heaven - tapping his feet and clapping his hands - looks into our hearts and smiles like a child riding a bike or swinging on a swing on a warm sunny day and just falls in love with us again and again. God bless u Dan. Al

  • reminds me of getting pussy. in high school..lol

  • Too bad some people aren't even content with other people who love this music stating their own opinion here.

Some people are just never happy unless they are complaining . . .

  • what is up with all you christians flooding the comments....although dan might've been "born again" or whatever, america isnt a christian rock band so relax

  • Dan's not lonely anymore.

  • This song is sad, but there is beauty in it, and is uplifting in it's own way. I love it and miss Dan. Forever in peace with our Lord.

  • 5 people are dislikethis.

  • He had the best voice of them all. RIP.

  • Another faveorite song by these guys. This is the only big hit they had with Dan Peek singing lead vocals. The orginal trio did some great albums, and the group was never the same when Dan left and started doing religious music.

  • Your name is written in the Heaven .

    Rock in Peace, Dan .

  • God rest you in peace Dan,your music designed heaven before you even got there, its knocked me totally sick to find out that your gone man,

  • I GOT A E-MAIL FROM DAN JULY 23 AT 11:14 PM.. MUST OF BEEN ONE OF THE LAST E-MAILS HE SENT OUT BECAUSE THE NEXT MORRING HE WAS GONE.. WHAT GERRY ABD DEWEY SAID ON THERE WEB SITE WAS A BUCH OF SHIT.. THERE ALL MOST WAS A REUNION UNTILL THEY CHANGE THERE MIND AND WONT NOT EVEN HAVE LUNCH WITH DAN.. SO EASY NOW FOR THEM TO SAY NICE THINGS... LETS SEE IF DAN NAME IS ON THE WALK OF FAME WITH THEM... DAN TOLD ME THE TRUTH AND ITS SAD... GERRY AND DEWEY SHOULD OF KISS DAN ON THE CHEAK LIKE JUDUS DID

  • @snowiemann I think Mr. Peek (rest in peace by the side of the Lord) didn't need to be on the walk of the fame. There are things people who love Jesus don't need. As fame. Whatever Mr. Bunell and Mr. Beckley said, it doesn't matter. Mr. Peek made his choice to leave them and follow the Lord, leave the drugs, and alcohol, and follow Jesus' love. He was happy with his choice, and he had a sweet and peaceful dead. Now, he is by the Lord's side. Other stuff doesn't matter. :)

  • @snowiemann

wtf is wrong with you...if you're really 57 you should be embarrassed

  • @masterchiefer123 yeah because living to 57 is a bad thing

  • Your beautiful music brought us all together!! RIP Dan-we will miss you dearly!!

  • I never had a clue that America did so many great songs! I'm loving it! Also, Gerry is sorta cute, even with the '70's glasses!

  • You have no idea how much your music still inspires myself and my family I hope you are still out there reaching out and spreading your love and music! Thank you so much !! Elizabeth:-)

  • I am still feeling so sad when I hear this.

  • Drink from the Silver Cup Dan! I'm a better man today because of your music! Thank you for signing my book, what a wonderful journey!

  • Wonderful. Rest in peace, Dan.

  • RIP Dan. There is a Christian version of this song by Dan here on y.t. Give it a listen you won't be disappointed.

  • Oh Lord........the awesome sound of a good twelve string. Music will never be so good again.

  • When life passes you by; is it because you gave up? I did; and become a different

person. One lost and the bewildered soul, that also kept that small voice we all hear quite too. You have to try, my friends and fight the feelings of despair. The only option when you give up...is to wait for your death. Anyway, smile even if its a a painted one...somethng will come along to make that smile geniune.
