Compare him to almost any other opera/operatic tenor singer... he has nowhere near as much power as the likes of Pavarotti, Gedda or even someone like Alagna.
@hotqueekboi Ok, going to go for ignorant. The tenors you've just named are are Lyric tenors. The only slight crossover was Gedda and he's never performed the majority of the Rossini works. Florez is a tenore leggierio which means that no, his voice isn't as large as Pavarotti. But it is more light, florid and ringing, as his vocal fach would suggest. Pavarotti never recorded 'Cessa....' and Florez will never record 'Nessun Dorma'. No need to compare!
@hotqueekboi Either irony or a hearing problem? This is not a dramatic tenor piece - colouratura that needs a smaller, lighter voice to carry off. This guy is pretty well regarded as the best out there for this sort of stuff
I've been seeing comments on other tenors' vids recently to the effect that the tenor in question is "better than Florez!" Well, this video settles it. In this rep, there may be one or two tenors who are Florez's equal, but no one better. Bravo.
@90lysander it says something about Florez´s art of singing that everybody feels the need to compare excellent singers with him. :-))) he is seldom omitted when you think of great singing.
@eurydike She fell and broke her leg on opening night. She sang the rest of the performance on crutches. Between opening night and second night they restaged the whole production for her out the front in the wheel-chair. She was wheel-chair bound for the rest of the performances, but her amazing skills allowed it to still work and you forget she's even in a wheel-chair!
What a bloody awful set and weak production!!!! It ruins a performance with two of the world's greatest current singers. I prefer the wonderful Met production. Still love JDD and JDF :)
It's Florez, bitch! amazing as usual ...btw I just realized "Ah, il più lieto" here, is the same as "Non piu mesta" (from La cenerentola) hahaha I knew Rossini was criticized for using bits of his operas on his other operas but I had actually never come to noticing this before :P
If you want to hear another "coincidence", the ending of "Non piu mesta" is very similar to the ending of "Vieni fra queste braccia", from Rossini's "La gazza ladra". Rossini was a freaking genius xD
Not my favourite by any means of operatic tenors, but he is technically brilliant and his runs/melissima is very well executed.

has anyone noticed that the tune from 4:37 is the same to "non piu mesta" fom la Cenerentola?

@dottorbarbaro Rossini was known to self-plagiarise.

In questa interpretazione Florez è veramente in un momento di grazia sia per il canto di coloratura che per la recitazione.
Bravo Maestro Florez.
