  • didnt realize they were singing the second verse in english...thought it was the first verse repeated in french haha..they know more than probably 99% of americans

  • I can't believe you guys... talking about how France is supposedly 'anti-americanism' on a video showing 20 ordinary French citizens singing America's national anthem...

Besides, know that American culture has been ever present, everywhere in France... for decades already ! Don't judge without knowing, geez...

  • @Kentaurosu I love France! From America. Gotta remeber man there arem oron every where and aot more on Youtube.

  • Vive la France et l'Amérique

  • Love how the video where the French sing the Star Spangled Banner, everyone loves it. But then the video where a bunch of Americans sing the Mexican national anthem is being slammed for hypocrisy.

  • @patient451 That's because the way Mexico is portrayed in that video (A random desert with a fence and people behind it) the project idea as a whole is interesting and cool, but I do find the Mexico-US video kinda offensive.

  • @PhiloAmericana "The French hate American culture, American power, American history"? Sorry, but my nationality has nothing to do with what I may like or dislike. I actually DO like America, American culture, American history, etc, I'm French and so do my friends and my family.

How many french people have you met personally? There are millions and millions of french people, you can't speak for them all.

  • @coraliefrom92 Of course some French like Americans. It'd be irrational to argue otherwise. I'm talking about norms in French culture. In general, America is disliked.

  • @PhiloAmericana Actually, not as much as most people think. Okay, maybe some older people, but those dislike everyone, it's not just America. :P

  • @coraliefrom92 Hey, How do most French people feel about President Obama. Because i really like Nicolas Sarkozy.

  • @TheIceman567 Most french people like Obama. :O They don't like Bush, though.

  • @coraliefrom92 Oh no man it's the samething over here.

  • @ PhiloAmericana You said that France has "constantly supported others against us. Whether it was during colonial times, the civil war, or during the cold war." Wow... Just wow.

In "colonial times" France came to our side to help us defeat Great Britain in the Revolution. During the Civil War, France remained neutral, meaning they didn't side with our enemies. And finally, during the Cold War, France was indeed our ally, helping us maintain a united front against Russia. Read a book, idiot.

  • @PhiloAmericana Anti-Americanism is a very complex topic... In fact, there are 7 different "anti-AmericanismS" (sovereignist, legacy, liberal, elitist, nostalgic, social and radical muslim), and all of them are active in France. Watch that video watch?v=LEw4wN-Wkz0 (What is Anti-Americanism? The Case of France ) and you will understand what it's all about. And dont forget the last words of the lecture "Dont take personaly ; the French are anti everything" (45'30). ;-)

  • I am American. I love France (and hate the U.K.). I guess I am not your typical American that loathes the French and loves the British. People do seem to forget that France is America's oldest ally. And without French assistance during our American Revolution to fight off the evil British, there woud be no United States of America.

People can call the French cowards. But not me. The French are the greatest people in the world. We came to their rescue in 1944 just as they came to ours in 1778.

  • So pretty. It's good to hear the whole thing.

  • I've lived in the US all my life and don't even know the anthem, then again we were never taught . . .ever! HOLY SHIT our anthem is way longer than i ever heard

  • I've lived in the US all my life and don't even know the anthem, then again we were never taught . . .ever!

  • This has given me renewed hope, both in the French, and four our countries, We were brothers once, and should be again.

  • well done french people. i like you now

  • vive la France et les USA !!!!!!!

  • I'm very curious how U.S. history/culture is taught in other countries... here in America, history teachers are not allowed to be biased when it comes to other nations, but is it different for the rest of the world?

  • Why should the two nations that were pioneers in granting freedom and democracy to its people be enemies? Long live the USA et Vive la belle France!

    Hugs from Portugal to all!

  • god bless to united states, thank you usa good whises since of mexico.

  • I LOVE AMERICA! I LOVE FRANCE! LONG LIVE BOTH!

  • As an American with strong French ancestry, I recently visited France. Upon my return everyone asked me "DID YOU GET SPIT ON?!" I could only say "no" in response to their horribly ignorant comment. This video should be seen by Americans to see that the stereotype of the French being Anti-American and pretentious is a lie. I greatly appreciate this video! Thank You!

  • These people did a wonderful job singing this! God bless America & France.

  • Amazing and Beautiful.

  • God bless both nations

  • Sad that are friends in France are fighting against the same socialist nuts that we in USA are. At least they now have a Pres. who loves the USA, I only wish we had one too!!! Very nice, and thank you from all of the conservatives and patriots here in the U.S.

  • American soldier touched by this video, just wanted to say Thanks to my French brothers and sisters.

  • The French saved the Americans in 1778

The Americans saved the French in 1944

So lets get along like we used to. From an American

  • this is creepy,it kind of makes me think the USA took over the world with one power and now everyone in the world needs to sing the anthem, its just a thought a creepy thought

  • @R2DTOOD come now amigo, there's no need to ruin good feeling between two great nations. Months ago, I had to watch one of my favorite movies, Casablanca, made during WW2. Found myself singing La Marseillaise repetively for the next few weeks. Whistling the tune, and later, borrowing a book to learn more about the song's origin. So please, smile.

    watch?v=-KL76edqCKc

  • =') Thank you, France! You make our anthem sound so smashing! Vive la France! et Estat Unis.

  • Moi aussi ça me plait. The video was made in Paris. I want to tell my American friends that France is not limited to Paris :-)))

  • Wow. They sing the entire song That makes me so happy. Their French accents are so beautiful. :)

  • I am French-Mexican born in Toulouse Sing for Mexico France!!

  • tears, beautiful!

  • France are the oldest allies of USA, and USA are the best allies of France. For our two countries !

    Vive la France !

Vive les états unis d'amérique !

Deux amis, bien que parfois en désacord.

  • Less powerful than the US/MEXICO vid. IMO

...gave proof through ze night zat ze flag was still zer. lol.

    Luv Ya France ;P

  • i am mexican but my farther was from cuba and his family from france im glad i come from french decent eventhough im mixed with mexican i feel i am one race the race of the world because we are all one.

  • Beautiful! That was great!

  • The oldest ally of the United States of America: France!

Vive les USA et la France !!!!!!!!

  • I love France and America.. this brings tears to my eyes.

  • This makes me tear up every time I see it.

I love you and miss you, Uncle Oliver!!!

This is truly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen and it makes me proud to be an American and proud to be French :)

I miss my beautiful Paris and I miss my beautiful French family~

Thank you for this- The world needs more of Pangea Day :)

  • Very ,very funny.France sings for USA and french guys are ashamed to sing their own anthem "La Marseillaise".Most of the time, they don't even know the first verse,ah ah ah!!!!

  • Because nationalism in Europe was one cause for the first and second world war.

Nationalist values have been assimilated by extremist groups such as the "front national" in the 50's / 60's.

  • Thank you!

  • You're welcome :)

  • Is the best idea that i have see in the internet. I saw other like make a song between a lot of ocuntries, but this is the best

  • Its probably because im an american, but at least to me l feel like the star spangled banner is the most beautiful national amthem ever, but thats just me. god bless the U.S. and France =)

  • Please, the Russian anthem is the best in the world, and I'm not even Russian, the US anthem is based on an old British man's drinking song, epic fail.

  • based on an old mans drinking song? buddy the song was written on the last battle of the revolutionary war, outlooking the atlantic sea and all the french and american soldiers and ships sinking british troops. and of course, ive never heard of the russian anthem. so epic fail indeed.

  • I was talking about the melody you idiot. Who cares about the lyrics? They just pasted it over some British drinking song, big whoop.

  • The lyrics were actually written and inspired during the war 1812, if I remember correctly. It was written in 1814, which makes it seem more accurate to me.

  • Actually it was! Supremacy was right. Epic Fail is a bit much tho. timecampf is right too it was the War of 1812, ironically started because of the Napoleonic War but I can go on about that forever but I won't bore you, funny how things are connected if the British weren't occupied...oh well don't want to anger anyone! lol Same thing with your Sweet Land of Liberty carbon copy of God Save the King. The battle you were thinking of camp was Fort McHenry. Cheers.

  • I think Epic Fail is a bit much. Many songs were based off of other songs. I too like the Russian anthem tho. Well the old/newest one. I can remember doing work in the comp lab and my friend would have it on full blast I thought dammit their gonna think we are all communists! LOL It's a rousing song! This version of the U.S. anthem is the best I have heard. There is no pretension of trying to outstretch your 15 minutes of fame by going over every bloody note at different octaves!--ya know.

  • And every other country on the planet. :)

  • u not the only one dude

  • fuck america

    terorrist country

  • I do not like like hymns - because it's stupid. But I remember that if I'm free to "only" imagine a better world - some foreign men have died for it on our beach - and even much more after. So, hymns to remember, ok.

  • Vive les Etas-Unis, vive la liberté !

  • Sorry, do you mean " too foreign" ? Just a question because I don't anderstand.

  • Beautiful...great job..thank you. Far more noble effort then the "singers' we put on television at our events who either yodel, blues sing, or sound like they are in agony. I suspect some of them even need cue cards to remember the words.

    I salute you all.

  • I know they did a much better job than what you, and we (in Canada), are used to at sporting events. I like how they matched groups that are historically at odds; French and U.S., U.S. and Mexico, Argentina and U.K. I must admit I don't get Japan and Turkey nor Australia and Lebanon. Wonder you will sing O Canada though and who we will sing. Love this idea! Brings tears to my eyes :'(

  • Well more lately the U.S. seems kind of backwards and ignorant to the French. Very ironic in and of its self ;). Which is why this has more power. Actually the U.S. might not exist were it not for France as France was one of the main reasons that US won the war against Britain in 1783, particularly against Cornwallis. Then modern France owes much to the creation and ideals of the US. Sry that should read "Wonder who will sing O Canada" Cheers!

  • the style is not so different... so it should've been America sings for China or something lol

  • i thinks they do it for country that hate each other not a lot just because they want to WE DID NOTHING WRONG TO FANCE and visa versa so we make fun of mexico because there poorer than us so we sung for us

  • Lovable. A perfect analogy.

A perfect tribute to two grand countries, protectors of freedom and human rights.

  • I always get a little tear in my eye when i hear this. God Bless the United States and France!!

  • @AmentiProductions Uhh were atheist over here

  • I wish they did a video of us singing for France.

This is a good one I found:

    watch?v=GubbhQuHISY

The french anthem would sound great as an instrumental on electric guitar.

  • Beautiful version (especially the following verses!).

  • This is the most beautiful version I have ever heard...thank you....I am amazed by the singers with their voices...usually it sounds to foreign for me to listen to!

  • hahaha sure man right, havent u wonder if that the people that u call mexicans are not mexicans?, cause as i said its all the world there, haha so it may be for sure latin american, but let say they supossed to be mexican, u know they are made by ur own needs government society, they dont have any base of Mexico, they are born there, and thay are allowed to born there ilegaly, what it makes this not be a fact of ethnicity right haha but as i said there are americans who dont see the reality yet.

  • opne ur mind my friend and allowed urself to visit Mexico

  • I love your way of thinking minitamosch5.

    You are absolutely right

  • and i wonder who cares of the few americans that dont see the real cause thats another thing of the rest of americans that are becoming to understand, indeed you must know the nature of your country my friend, so just dont say crimes cause u have the worst crimes having all ethnicitys in ur country whitout having own culture, drugs?ohh right addicts and keep selling guns around the world............mmm u see after all it dosent make it so charm ha....

  • amm well few people like usa, and i sayed people not countries at all

  • WOW.. lump in my throat.

  • We in the U.S. don't even sing all the verses... and they did it from memory! How impressive... and heartwarming. It made me a little teary-eyed. Thank you for this.

  • @AtlantaGarden It is kind of sad that I did not even know that there was more to it!!!! I thought what we sing is the whole part of it!!! Wow I learned something new today!!!! :D

  • @AtlantaGarden They are very thankful with the U.S. in France, this country has a strong friendship with La France, Merci beaucoup!

  • To bypass the retoric of politics, i think the people of countrys should talk directly to each other just like whats going on here on youtube. That way we can fully understand how each person (not the leaders) feel. That way we can get around the propaganda. Beautifully done rendition of the Anthem. Bravo!

  • They sing the national anthem with much grace and respect. It is too bad that many people here in the USA don't do the same. Some don't even know the words nor do they show any signs of respect when it is played at public events.

  • thats true in my culture"mexican" u would get an ass whopping at school if u didnt know the national anthem in mexico. I know the complete U.S anthem and im 19

  • Thank u USA !!!

  • Merci la France !

    Dieu bénissent la France !

    Dieu bénissent les Etats-Unis d'Amérique !

    Thank you France

    God Bless our countries!

  • If we were to have a vote on it, would you vote for one of the other verses to be our national anthem? I would say yes!

  • yes I really love the final verse:

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Between their loved home and the war's desolation!

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land

Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

  • From a Frenchman : Dear American cousins, (most of your ancestors came from Europe, right?) stop thinking we hate you. We don't. The harsh criticism against your nation in the last 50 years or so can be traced to: 1)The importance of the Communist Party in France during the Great Depression (the 30s)then in the French Resistance movements (in fact they went underground ONLY when the Soviet Union was attacked!) and their subsequent electoral successes right after the war together with...

  • the influence they exerted over French "intellectuals" (Sartre being the best example). 2) De Gaulle's rather surprising belief (surprising for such an intelligent man!) that France's role as a nation of VERY FIRST rank could be regained and therefore America was the archrival. All that is very fortunately over. I am deeply grateful to the Americans for having come to the rescue of Europe and having fred us of Nazi tiranny. And every morning, when I wake up,I thank God (or the Universe or..

  • anything, it doesn't matter) that the mightiest military power on Earth is a DEMOCRACY in which (in spite of its shortcomings. But which nation is devoid of these?) the basic human rights for which we French fought for during the French Revolution (and for which you fought too during your War of Independence) are preserved and protected. Long live America ! (In case you didn't understand, we don't hate you, just the opposite.)

  • Zeissfan112 Thank for from an American! I know the great people of France dont hate Americans. I have traveled much of Europe, and found the French to be some of the most accommodating. And I havent forgotten out War of Independence, without the help of France the history books would be much different. Thank You.

  • You are welcome AmentiProductions! (in both senses of the term). And once more : Long live America ! (The land of the FREE, indeed.).

  • Zeissfan112 - you literally brought tears to my eyes with your comments. I am an American, and I've lived in Europe for the past 6 months. From someone who had family die in Normandy, it's very painful to see how many people here now accuse America/Americans of being "murderers." How quickly they forget. So, I'm relieved it's not universal! You've restored my hope ;) I'm looking forward to my 3rd visit to Paris next month - I'm in love with that city! God bless you!

  • The same to you kkaylew! If some of your parents died in Normandy I truly understand your disappointment and your grief. The forgetful and ungrateful idiots! If you hadn't been there they would AT BEST (due to the steamroller qualities of the Red Army which was slowly crushing the Germans) have spent 50 years of their life in a grim and impoverished police state. The next time they accuse you of being "murderers" remind them of that and ask them if they would prefer the(.)

  • strongest military power to be any of the numerous Arab or Black African dictatorships or (why not, it would be a great idea!) Kim Jong Il's Korea and wait for their answer if they are able to utter any. But don't worry too much I know them. Their criticism is superficial, a bit like grumbling about the weather or the traffic. Believe me, there is no hatred (How could there be?). Another thing: I really like your anthem (even sung with our funny accent! and watch the singers (.)

  • they really enjoy it!) not only the lyrics but also the melody which conveys a feeling of warmth and togetherness. it reminds me of the last scene of "The Deer Hunter" where the war-torn veterans and their female friends (Oh! the moving Merryl Streep!) sing a capella "God bless America". If you have time to lose read the comments of xXLolXx, Fridomfry (an ironic pseudo), DARKA006, Kehayi, pmarchant, ppierre, Niniss6 and many others (all of them French). They may not be as (.)

  • talkative as I am but they equally love you. Good luck for your next trip to Paris and try not to be put off by the notoriosly unpolite Parisian waiters. I have been told some New York bartenders are doing their very best to outdo them. I plan to fly one of these days over the pond to check the accuracy of this statement. In the meantime: Long live the Franco-American friendship! Vive l'Amitié Franco- Américaine!

  • beautiful anthem =)

    From France ;)

  • It's really a superb anthem - even with our french accent ! Greetings from Paris!

  • xD c'est vraiment nimporte quoi 8) ca me fait penser a une chanson de noel cette musique :D

  • i studied the american national anthem in a music theory class once. I remember my teacher telling me it was poorly composed. Something about the intervals between notes.

  • Haha, that's true. Alot of people say that it is almost impossible to sing the full range of notes in the song as it was originaly sung. It is because the range is accross an octave and a half, and the key is also hard, it is usually sung in A or b flat. I guess beause the tune was originally a drinking song, you were supposed to sing it drunk, mabey you would have a better time at it.

  • Actually it was originally a poem by Francis Scott Key. ;]

  • It was a poem you idiot.

  • Ummm... The words are from the poem from Francis Scott Key, the music is from "The Anacreon Song", a british drinking song. Everyone knows that, look who's the idiot my friend.

  • it was actually a poem not meant to be a song

  • Thats not what I meant, the words of the poem have nothing to do with the music of the song, the song with its original lyrics was just ashard to sing probably, changing the words of a song doesn't impact the musical composition of it.

  • we love you dear brothers ensemble et indivisible

  • i love both my national anthems

  • Great video - I'm a French man who's lived in the US for some years, and I'm tired of hearing "France hates the US" and "Americans hate France" everywhere.

Yes, there are idiots on both sides. Stop making generalizations. When I was in the US, most of the French-bashing I heard was my friends teasing me. In France, most of the US-bashing I hear comes from politicians trying to lure the idiots in.

We're more alike than our politicians or our media would ever let us believe. So chill a little.

  • Sorry ^^, "Every man has two countries his own and France." Better ; )

  • I like France they helped us out in the revolution so we had to return the favor.

  • Well, what about the US one? Singing the Mexican national anthem on land forcibly taken from mexico (probably)... The person who put that on couldn't see the irony.

  • Haha, not to mention that the mexicans are all standing at a friggin fence! Hrrm...what could that mean? What an image, huh? It never occurs to some people that a very small percentage of Mexicans want to come here. For every Mexican who tries to jump the border, there are 10 (or more) who are quite content to live in Mexico.

  • There shouldnt be one illegal alien in this country they dont pay taxes, also they get are jobs for cheaper.

  • What do you know about the world and the French to say such things ? Where do you see any glorification ? I believe it is a beautifull interpretation of one of the most beautifull anthem that promote the true bonds our two countries ever had, has long as both existed.

"Every two man has two country his own and France" Thomas Jefferson.

"Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country." Marquis de Lafayette

  • In the video "Japan sings for Turkey" Japanese people paid hommage to Turkey with their own traditional clothes, music and architecture: and i didn't see any comment of a turkish guy offended by that.

You saw 3 times the Eiffel tower, you became angry and concluded that the french are horrible. Go to a mental institute my friend.

  • Vive le France et / and God Bless the USA

  • and if not for USA, France would be speaking German now!..haha..don't get me wrong..I am not american...they just both owe to each other on a way

  • They wouldn't be speaking German, they'd be speaking Russian! Even if we never got involved in WWII, Russia would have pwned the Nazis eventually. The difference is we gave the occupied territory back to France. Russia would have added France to it's list of republics.

  • What about the british and american bombing of germany that destroyed 80% of their factories or the 1 million german soldiers on the western front? Or the japanese just southeast of Russia. There is no way Russia could have taken on germany by itself they barely won as it was, by the end of the war germans killed over 20 million russian soldiers and civilians

  • Hey yeah, you're right!!

Except well, "Operation Barbarossa"...you know, the largest military operation in history, with the highest record of human casualties ever, and the single most crushing defeat the nazis ever endured, and largely considered the turning point for the Third Reich, which by the way, happened over a year before we entered the war. There was 5 years of war that happened before we ever set foot in North Africa.

  • The british stoped the nazis cold in the battle of britain before operation barbarossa im not stupid you dont have to tell me about shit I already know. All im saying is that there was a lot of soldiers on the western front waiting for an invasion. Germany was bombed so bad by americans that it was the equivalent of how badly japan was bombed.

  • and if Russia don´t stop napoleon, Germany would be speaking french now!.

    and without monkey, no human.

and if eva didn't eat the apple, we would all perfect today......

Long live the USA, Long live France and Long live the French-American-Friendship.

  • totally agree!

  • Vive la France et les Etas-Unis !! :)

  • very good :)

  • lol good one

  • pmarchant80 The last time i've traveled to france i realized the people don't think like you.

  • they still d0nt

  • I lost quite a bit of faith in America after the Election.

  • It is not dishonored, we like the Americans.

  • We have always liked the Americans. Perhaps not all of their politicians...

I guess we're just happy that Bush is gone so that we are able to love our friends from America as before.

  • I am not happy with Bush, but that does not change my mind about the Americans. All Americans I have met at home and in the USA have been very nice.

  • Oh my goodness! That was magnificent!

This reaffirms my ever-present love and respect to France and the French people. Every French person I've met, here at home in the US or abroad, were very kind and fun to talk with. And I can't wait to visit France next summer.

God bless this choir for such a beautiful rendition of our anthem :) And thx for this great upload.

  • like your honesty...

    thanks.

  • I'm so bored (and sick) of U.S.A....

  • The best of luck to the United States under new President Obama.

  • why sould the usa sing to UK??

    thats stupid..

  • I was just curious, and yes, the USA sang for Mexico.

  • america sang to Mexico..

  • i didnt know france didnt like USA? why dont they like USA?

i swear usa has many enemies........

  • Lol, well I suppose it is only fitting, as the French had plenty of their own "bombs bursting in air" during the Revolutionary War! (and ships and ground support, etc)

    Vive la France!

  • Vive les Estas-Unis!!Vive la France!

that was absolutely beautiful! thought they switched to a different language at first though.

  • with more feeling!

  • We don't deserve this. Thank you.

  • the day the world comes together :S the day the world becomes one .. NWO :S

  • magnifique, tant par le verbe que par le symbole !

  • Viva la France Viva la United States of America Viva la allies

  • this touches my heart and soul...

  • i should never go back and read people's comments... it's a bad habit. online commenting leads to petty arguments and people just acting out of pride instead of reason. anyway, since people are talking about it, the US national anthem took its tune from an old english drinking song.

funny huh? and i do say "the US" because everyone in the world outside the US knows that "America" is the name an italian mapmaker gave a continent, not a country.

  • lol, yup, but somegave the CONTINENT the name after he died and, dor te only reason they call themself "United States Of America" is ecause they were the first independent country of America and for that reason they decide to divide the continent with South and North america, thatsd why i hate them

  • Vive La France! Vive Les Etas-Unis!

  • Oui, vive la France! Vive les Etas-Unis! Nous avons besoin de plus de gens comme vous dans le monde.

Sorry if it doesn't make sense, I haven't taken French in quite some time.

  • ahahaha...makes complete sense...except it should be ce monde...but i'll let that go LOL

And thank-you for saying that. I'm sure you're the same, soo we need more people like you dans ce monde aussi. :D

  • THIS VIDEO ROCKS!!!! THANKS.......

  • as an american this is extremely touching, the single most irritating thing about modern americans is their lack of pride. and I'm not talking about a superiority complex, I'm talking about a genuine love of country, and an undoubtable pride to be an american, even if you don't believe in the direction we're headed the great thing is that it won't last forever, and that every four years we have the power to change our future.

  • I'm french and I love the american anthem !! It's so beautiful :) i'm too young to judge if french or american are the best or whatever .. so , VIVE L'AMERIQUE ET LA FRANCE !

  • How wonderful. If all people would put such effort into harmonious thinking and doing what a world it would be.
