The restaurant we got that Escolar at stopped serving the fish. the chef at the restaurant was unaware, and weary of my claims...then he googled it, and spoke to his fish supplier. He was amazed, yelled at his fish supplier for not verbally telling him (I guess all he got was a flier he never read with info on the fish), and banned it from their restaurant's kitchen. We got a complimentary meal, which was nice...and the owner and chef even came to our table to thank us for telling them
Many countries have banned it...ASIAN countries as well! Most reputable U.S. restaurants will not serve this fish, because of the high liklihood of oily orange anal discharge and explosive dirrhea. Imagine eating that for dinner, and then having to go out somewhere in a social setting!!!
Careful with Escolar, I had it for the first time at an upscale Italian Restaurant, it was served in a portion similar to yours in this video, My husbadn and I each ate half of that one serving. After the meal we came straight home and both rushed to a bathroom, orange oily mess spewed out,the first time I understood the meaning of "explosive diarrhea" That was over 24 hours ago, and I am still battling an upset stomach and that orange oily anal discharge and diarrhea. Google Escolar fish
@adazzu O man i just fished out an escolar 2 days ago. Me and my wife ate it today and now i am on the stall with my laptop on my lap. Googling what the hell happened.
Nasty! Heh chef you should smother it with hot sauce so along with the oily discharge and diarreah it will burn like hell as well.
I believe I will be skipping a visit to your retaurant.

Supposedly only the skin has the laxative affect. But it isn't an urban legend if it's illegal to be sold in a bunch of countries.
