I could barely make it through the overture. Sir Colin needed to step up the tempo and lighten the whole score. It was like a 747 jet try to float in the sky like a kite.
We're playing this song, the real version, in my high school orchestra. I have the 1st bassoon part and it's killing me! Mainly just the solo stuffs. I've only been playing bassoon for 2 years and they shlump Mozart at me. I do love the music, but it makes my brain hurt. And the bassoons in this piece have such amazing sound, great tone quality.
One wonderful and stupefying fact is, this music which is so exciting and stirs the blood, was written about 225 years ago and has not lost its relevance or importance. Mozart was truly touched by God.
@raleighsquare i was just thinking that. we listen to this shit about sex, drugs, and alcohol and, don't get me wrong i listen to some of it too so i'm not judging, but if it was TRUE music it would hang around for decades and it won't. it'll only be there until LMFAO comes out with another party song and Miley Cyrus comes out with something she probably didn't write but it hits #1 anyways. it's crazy the shit people call music now.
Right at 8:50 to 9:35 is Anna Kristiina Kaappola at her very best in Der Holle Rache. I just wish someone could upload a vid of her singing the full aria. She's just absolutely amazing and truthfully one of my favorite QoTNs. There's not a lot of videos with her as this is the only one with Kaappola. I hope she can keep going with her career because she's absolutely wonderful. :D
@nthomas32 Me too! I once showed up at a Medieval costume party the day before in full costume. Oh what laughs we all had later, I and that merry band.
Of course the music is incredible! how can 11 people dislike such a masterpiece??
Hoevever, I disagree with what he says at 8:21. I've always thought there is some philosophy/symbolism behind the plot and these lyrics. (apparently easy sentences hide high meanings most of the time!!).
@papagena92 On a lot of You Tube videos, it's ALWAYS "11 people" who don't like the video. I suspect one disturbed person with 11 multiple personalities (all nasty) is behind these ratings.
i don't understand why the insistence (on the part of one of the speakers) on casting dispelling remarks. We can't really say what was Mozart's disposition at the time. We don't necessarily know how the Magic Flute was perceived then, or that we're even playing it right nowadays. We can't hear like they did.--- Discuss
@comic4relief I'll take the bait. we know a few things. Lyrics, tune, pace and language. Those things should be kept. I hate. Hate, deeply any Mozart-copy stepping out of those 4 boundaries. Mozart sung in swedish, english is just torture to my ears. Same is when it's too slow or too fast. This piece, in my oppinion, is just right.
Granted. Really, i was only commenting on the interviews after the performance, which i do find effective and did not mean to criticize. --- It is interesting to me to consider the musical environment back then. Players and composers, and listeners for that matter, probably had a purer sense of musical sounds. The only music they ever heard was being played right there within earshot. Modern ears on the average are disrupted and desensitized. We underestimate what the human ear is capable of.
This is the best overture ever written. I just can't stop listening to what happens between 03:50 and 04:30! Mozart was a genius and I love his music.
#NowPlaying via #iShuffleingAlgorhythms on the #Orchardian #iPod: Mozart's 'Die Zauberfloete' it is one of the most inspiring overtures, at least to me, since I used a clip of it for my "Demo Reel" over a decade ago, as a prerequisite to graduation; ended up becoming 'engraved' in my synapses, too!
The connection with Clementi is correct. in 1781, Clementi played his Bb Sonata in the presence of Mozart. The opening two bars are melodically identical to the opening of the Allegro of this Overture
It sounds a little like Clementi's Allegro con brio. Many people have said Mozart had the tune of Clementi's Allegro con brio in mind when writing this piece
@winnietheshyt Yeah he probably flat out stole it. The difference being it doesnt matter because when Mozart gets his hands on something he flat out makes it other-worldly. Clamenti could spend his whole life with that one theme and never write this.. Mozart can toss it off in a day at the most
Does the speaker who tells us there's nothing to be found within the story truly believe that, or has he simply found nothing in it himself? Why does there always have to be reference to the money side of Mozart's activities? After all, Mozart was a musician and an artist, not an economist; as long as he could dwell amongst other musicians and leaders of culture, party well, afford a new piano if he wanted one, etc, he was happy. He did not care to wheel and deal real estate.
i love it. mozart isn't exactly my favorite composer, but the magic flute is so beautiful and full of energy, especially with such a great conductor. excellent vid.
The magic flute is, by my judgement, one of the greatest achievements of mankind to date. Anyone who doesn't have tears in their eyes after this overture is made of stone. Beautiful performance too.
