  • That's a lot of treats! :0 I only give mine a few.

  • Omg I forgot how cute dalmation puppies are!

  • I have a 14 week old shiba inu/border collie mix who will not stop biting his leash and it's really getting on my nerves. Any tips? :(

  • @MissBarghest Did you follow kikopup's advice in this video? Or is your okay indoors, but only leash bites once you get out?

  • how many times a day should be trained your dog???

  • my dog bites the leash and the collar, he chokes himself with the collar

  • My english mastiff (Thor) and my fox terrier (steppy) keep crying when put the leash, any other ideas?

  • Man, i wish i had a clicker.

  • I love your videos, they are the best put together ones I've seen!

But I have a question for you: How do you get your puppy used to wearing his collar? Should I click and reward every time I put it on? He scratches at it all the time even though it's a nice and soft leather one that fits him correctly.

  • my new 19mth old puppy likes to jump on people and bite the leash he wont stop

  • These short clips prove nothing - other than shoving treats in a dogs face keeps them interested for a time. Show me a bog dog pulling it's ass off and you behind on the leash - and try that stop and start bs - that change directions bs - and event he treats every few minutes - watch how it eats the treat and pulls your ass until the next treat - and so on. You clickers need to man up and demo with real pull dogs for once.

  • @MicOnTesting it is hard to talk about science in each and every video- most people have a 2 min attention on yt, that is the fall back of videos. Its not about 'distracting' the dog as most people think, but its about using a scientifically based technique called 'Differential Reinforcement of Incompatible" Behavior DRI, as well as DRO... or DRH or DRL. These techniques are proven to work by science. Yes if you screw up with your timing- you are basically just giving the dog a piece of food

  • @kikopup Here is a video of me walking a Saint Bernard that pulls on his first lesson. All the dogs I have in all my videos (besides my own dogs) where chosen for the specific subject because they have issues with it. I usually dont get footage of the dog doing the "bad behavior" because if you know that practicing the behavior is reinforcing, then why would you get the dog to do it just to have a good video? this vid I happened to get a shot of the dog tugging the leash by accident

  • @kikopup The video is called "No Pulling!: Clicker Dog Training " also the black dog did give me blisters on my hands- that WAS indeed the most difficult leash puller I have encountered! Even though I used to work at a shelter with Katrina dogs that only got to leave their cages 1 a day- Rotties Mastiffs... None pulled as intensely as this Black dog... but of course you cant really tell because the dog did so well in the video. Clicker training is about setting dogs up for success

  • @kikopup and I Agree :) Setting dogs up for success should be the new fad in dog training, and I hope it doesnt go away.

  • @MicOnTesting Kiko has other videos of much bigger dogs.... such as a Mastiff. But you're right, perhaps KikoPup might consider a video demonstrating the progress of a shelter dog that pulls like a bull.. from beginning to end.

  • All you're doing is giving her enough treats to keep her mind off the leash until the next treat - and even then she still goes for the leash and you push her off and/or stick another treat in her face. This doesn't prove there is any learning going on here - and if there is - anything that is lasting. This whole clicker trend is flakey.

  • this is the only one reason i use a metal chain. its not used in an abusive way at all its just used because i cant get my dog to not bite the leash even after training

  • I'm trying to teach my 3 yr old boxer (who has no interest in leash biting at all) to retrieve her leash and bring it to me before walks. Any ideas on how to get started?

  • @Pelagic01 zsianz1 has a new video on teaching fetching different objects

  • I have a question, how can you stop a 1 year old dog from chasing dogs and bicycles? On the leash he walks loosely and ignores dogs and bicycles. Off leash he will go over to a dog and sometimes chase them. Then when he gets chased he sits down and gets nervous or after saying hello and chasing hes calm. But how can i stop him chasing bicycles? Its happened twice and i can't let him off the leash anymore because nothing matters when hes chasing. What do i do to make them less exciting?

  • @Wtflolyay You could have him on a harness and long line so he feels off leash, then when he sees the stimuli- click him, and get him to come to you for the reward. If he doesnt come, simple prevent him from getting to go to the stimuli. Then once youve done that a while- as the stimuli happens, you can say good boy! and if he comes to you of his own accord you could reinforce that if you liked etc etc

  • @kikopup All of a sudden hes become nervous around larger dogs. Hes had a few try to attack him and now he will lunge and bite dogs bigger than him, if he doesnt do that he curves away from them avoiding eye contact. What training method would i use for that? Its making walks not very enjoyable at all..

  • @kikopup My dog has learnt to behave perfectly on the long line, but he knows as soon as he is off the long line, he can get away with what ever he wants. I don't know what else I can do for an inbetween step- a lighter long line perhaps- like some string or fishing twine?

He's an older dog and I'm having difficulty finding motivation that works in his old age too- probably a contributing factor in the above.

    Any ideas!

  • What treats do you use/recommend?

  • @emzlou09 I use their regular dry food.

  • @emzlou09 Anything that the dog *really* likes. String cheese and hotdogs (you can get about 200 treats out of a single hot dog) often work well. Most dogs work best for soft, savory treats, although some go nuts for Cheerios or similar things. The dogs regular dry food generally isn't motivating enough for most dogs when working around distractions, but you can mix it in a treat bag with some stinkier, higher value treats or grated parmesan cheese or something to make it "worth more" to the dog.

  • An invaluable video, wish their were more trainers like you around.

I have gone through many a leash with my GSD, and only advice I had been given previously was to "tell him no" and "drop the leash" both of which only seemed to make it into a game for him. He is getting better after using this sort of exercise, but if he gets over excited on a walk and grabs the lead it's hard to snap him out of it and get him back to being relaxed.

  • love it!

  • I have a question, what if your dog is so stimulated by the cat that she is always seeking him out, and can never focus outside because she is anticipating chasing the cat? When we are outside nothing else exists but the cat, and this is creating a big problem. Is there a way similar this one to teach her not to be stimulated so much by the cat? She has just recently picked up this habit.

  • @MeadowLarkBC Check out zsianz1 s channel she has a video on that exact subject!
