@coldwind777 oh god... ahaha if you didnt notice how the throw still barely beat him then what do you think the result would have been with that one more second of him coming across the bag and setting his feet? safe maybe? i think so. alright just thought i'd inform you
@tyler5jobin I think so, too. If he stepped into it, he would have received the ball faster and may have been able to get more on the throw. I don't think there's too many people who would posit this as the "proper" way to turn that play, but I'm no expert and I've certainly done nothing even close to that.
@coldwind777 if he came across the bag the guy would have been safe, and there is a lot of ways to do certain things... there's no specific way.. it comes naturally and that play is definitely one of the most athletic plays i've seen a second baseman make but no way is 'proper' you have to let the play come to you, you cant be a robot out there
@tyler5jobin why would the runner be safe? I didn't say he should be on the grass. you can step to the feed without taking your foot off the bag. no you don't always have to make the "proper" playand yes this play is great I just think he would have had an easier time stepping across the bag. obviously it doesn't matter because he can strong arm a ball 90 feet no problem. just saying.
Well, may I be allowed to brag? If my teammates at HELLER INTL SOFTBALL TEAM in 1986 can read this, like GREG, for example, they can vouch that, in one of corporate league games in Central Park I made throw from 2nd just like that, completing a game-ending double play! And we won the game. UNFORGETTABLE! Wish we had a video that time!
it has gotta be the 2nd baseman. he jumped to dodge that sliding player and he threw the ball at the same time with such accuracy!! AWSOME DOUBLE PLAY DUDES!!
as a brit with very little knowledge but a lot of admiration for baseball i have to say the way these guys throw a ball just defies physics. so damn hard and so damn accurate, it is beyond compare.
@ian503840 you lost the season series to us last year. Phil Knight bought a coaching staff and built a stadium because we won 2 world series'. shut it.
@joewain04 hahaha funny shit. im pretty sure we were ranked better then the beaves! fuck the beaves and i love how everyone complains that we get phil knight to buy us everythihg... so what were still better then you.
@mr11fawful Beavs*. everyone complains about you having Phil Knight because he's your sugar daddy. he bought the Cal State Fullerton coaching staff (one of the best in the nation) and put up the money for more scholarships than we have. its no surprise that the Ducks are better than us. its always going to be that way.
@mr11fawful now what I'm guessing is that you'll come back with another non-sensical comment about how the Ducks are the best and the Beavers suck. its sad, really, that a school with so many fans have no fans who can actually hold an intelligent conversation about sports. all you know is that the Ducks are better than most teams, and you're too arrogant to recognize any other teams' accomplishments, or your own mistakes. go ahead, be proud of being a good team. I'll be proud of being smarter
@joewain04 no actually i agree. but you can hate it all you want. but it wont help cuz like he said the ducks will always be better. the beavers had a good roll but its over now there not that good. And how am i the one who cant have a convo? you fag
@mr11fawful congrats on being one of the few Ducks who isnt a complete moron. although you quickly negated your credibility with the 'fag' comment. doesn't hurt though, its nothing compared to the endless heartbreak I endure as a Beaver fan. we'll get to a Rose Bowl eventually, right?
I graduated from Sprague in 2006 with this beast. He was rightfully, though sac religiously, called "Jesus" For not only being Star QB for our State Title winning undefeated football team, but also for well...making plays like this. Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous for a teenager.

thiis play was amazing! i was sitting right behind 1st base! the college world series is amazing and me and my dad and some friends are amkin it a yearly trip its so narly
this play was okay it wasnt great, if the batter had been anyone other than the batter that it was, the double play would not have been turned. Fullerton's batter had a broken foot and was unable to run out the groundball. Though its nothing to take away from the play, They still had to turn it. Though know the other factors of the play, it isnt that great.
The throw makes it a great play. Few other players in baseball can make that throw, accurately and on-time, no matter who is running. Even without Wong's turn (the timing of which was also spectacular for a second baseman, especially a college Freshman... I'm sorry, what do you know about baseball again?), the play by Barney wasn't half-bad.
Of course, no other team in college baseball was playing defense at OSU's level save Arizona State (until the CWS, that is).
I think i know a thing or two about baseball. i am not taking anything away from the turn. I am just saying, If there was any other player on the fullerton team, it would of been a nice attempt. If you watched the game the announcers even said that the runner should of been on second base, but because of his broken foot he was lucky enough to make first base.
But your entitled to your opinion and i am entitled to mine
dude I played against Joey last year when he was a senior at Sprauge, he made a play almost exactly like that, it was just amazing everyone in our dugout's jaws dropped...
That was one of the greatest DP's I have seen. I have no idea how Joey not only threw a clean throw to first while throwing across his body but also being parellel to the ground with the runner sliding into him. Unbelievable. The only play to out do that was Darwin Barney's line drive catch against ASU yesterday.
I have played a long time and seen a lot of games, and that is the grestest DP I have ever seen. Wong gets rid of it faster than any 2nd baseman ever and he had to to turn two on that one. He's got a cannon to get anything on that throw. Very nice !
I was a junior when Joey was a senior at Sprague High School in Salem, Oregon. Along with playing baseball, he was the starting QB for Sprague's 2005 State Champion Football Team. Four year Varsity for baseball. -Honors- As a Senior: All-State First Team, League Player of the Year, drafted in 46th round by Houston Astros. As a Junior: 4A HS State Champions, All-State First Team, All-League First Team; USA Youth National Team. As a Sophomore: all-league second team.
This is so beautiful I almost cried.
