I used to live in a basement and these huge big ass spiders would always be beside my bed... and there was a huge ass spider living under my bed with a spiders nest... worst place EVER lived. xD scurrry
Eugh, I've killed hundreds of these. They infest my grandma's house and when I stay with her I kill hundreds (her cat must kill thousands!)
I am scared for my grandma. She has no absolutely no clue. I plan on taking a chainsaw and flames to the juniper bushes around the house. Those are just unnecessary and introduce mice and spiders to the house.
I remember living in Oregon and never knowing they existed because they were often confused for brown recluse bites. They are much more aggressive than BRs that's for sure
Hobo Spider bites are very similiar to brown recluse-treated the same anyways but often the Brown recluse is not in that area normally. And the same can be said for the hobo which so far is a pacific northwest spider and will bite more than once whereas the recluse only bites once.
@bajablastin Spiders are not a cruel joke..they are very beneficial creatures. If we didn't have spiders, we would be overrun by other insects you consider annoying and gross.
@WarHawk215 Excuse me..but how is what I said blaming it on god? I stated "Spiders are not a cruel joke..they are very beneficial creatures. If we didn't have spiders, we would be overrun by other insects you consider annoying and gross" in response to bajablastin's comment "ewww... I feel them crawling on me!!! SPIDERS ARE A CRUEL JOKE FROM GOD!!!! :(" You need to read each comment carefully and make sure who is posting what before you go and say something like that.
@dman51590 If you have the common house spider living nearby, the mottled house spider, which is non venomous, the other types will not get too far. cats eat spiders and love tormenting them. Also opossums do too if you like opossums. An opossum is nocturnal so too are these brown recluse so they won't get far. I like opossums myself.
I live in Rose Park (SALT LAKE CITY , Utah) and we get tons of them here at the skyharbor apartments, i see at least one everyday inside including a BLACK WIDOW!
My room is full of giant house spiders at the momment...they come in through the skyline window from the roof which i keep open through the day..i got a little worried after finding out it could be a hobo but i live in great britain..do you get hobos over hear ??
I think this man had the right idea about setting traps up in his home, but honestly, I really think they just draw more into the living area...We had traps set up in our basement at one time, and that year, we saw more hobos than ever before. All I can say is that if I were him, I'd be sleeping with one eye open!
I wonder if anybody acutally verified that these were hobos and not the giant house spider. Apparently they need to be checked under a microscope. People mix them up with the brown recluse too sometimes.
Apparently spiders dislike conkers, so if you don't want spiders in the home, put a few conkers around to deter them.
I actually quite like spiders (especially when compared to the nasty insects that bite you), so I've never actually tried this. It may just be an old wives tale?
Err, you have conker fights with them, you drill a whole through it and thread it with a piece of string with a knot tied at one end. Then you take it in turns to try to inflict as much damage to your opponents conker as possible by swinging your conker at theirs. You keep going until one of the conkers break and whoever is the last one standing wins. They are also known as horse-chestnuts.
