  • I bought a Gold cup a couple of years ago (different hammer and beaver grip safety)

and was blown away at the performance at the range. Didn't have to touch the sights or anything and shot better than I ever have by far with any pistol I've ever had. Got me some wooden double diamond grips coming in the mail. Permanent home in the safe-never trade/sell this one.

  • They say Jeff has strangled men to death with his beard for just looking him in the eye.

  • There is absolutely no proof of that. I was never convicted of any of those charges.

  • Great gun.Still cant get over the shirt Love It!!

  • Thanks Jeff, awesome review as usual. Now I know what my next 1911 purchase is going to be. BTW, is the barrel bushing tight enough to require the bushing wrench? I noticed in your web article photos Colt ships a bushing wrench with that one. Their standard fit 1911s don't come with a wrench.

  • I could turn it without the wrench, but it was pretty tight, so I used the wrench.

  • very nice

  • Wow, no more NM prefix, are the mags stamper NM Jeff ?

  • No, they are not. There are pics of the mags in the referenced review.

  • I would be curious to try a grip like this one. My Range Officer is smooth, and the rubber grip would be fun to try. I might have to go to the gun shop to see about checking these out . . .

  • great review, thanks!

  • Sweet pistol! The only thing I would've liked to have seen is a relief cut under the trigger guard to allow a slightly higher grip. Every little bit helps!

  • I was just at the Colt Plant picking up some parts today didn't know they brought it back nothing was up front about it.

  • Very nice. I don't own a colt yet. So maybe

Jeff how many rounds do you put through a weapon when you review it

And how long do you usually have it for

  • The round count depends upon the weapon. I have to run enough to know how well it will function with a variety of ammunition, and then more to test velocity, and more to test for accuracy. I sometimes have a gun for months before getting the review posted, but I have received a gun and had the review posted in a few hours, when we were up against a deadline.

  • I wish I could shoot as good as that Ransom rest.

  • if it weren't for the gaudy roll markings, I'd say this would be my next big buy :(

  • Sweet sweet sweet ...

  • What's the rest/vise being used at the end?

  • @eric11183 its a Ransom Rest.

  • That's a Ransom master Series handgun rest. The best there is.

  • @Gunblastdotcom

That thing is cool! Takes almost all of the "human factor" out of the test to give consistent results and accuracy so no one can claim you favored one ammo over another for personal reasons.

    I like it!

  • I love how every video is about "a nice little shooting pistol" or "rifle"! Good video

  • @1911sa $ 1060.00 give or take

  • @1911 somebody else has another video of this gun and has it listed @ 1060 out the door

  • Beatiful!

  • I have had three of them that I got from my father in law, there is nothing better, the best 45 ACP out there

  • Nice vid, thanks !!

  • WOW! That's a beauty Jeff. Like the older Colts series 70. VERRY ACCURATE !!! Thanks for sharing Jeff ! Take care dude.

  • Gotta love the 1911! Good video, thanks.

  • i'm lovin the look of this pistol. Beautiful.

One question i have though is how would this compare to the Springfield "Range oficer"? It may not compare to it, but just a thought that popped up.

  • @batkins852 I'm not a Bullseye shooter, so I could be wrong here, but I don't think that the Range Officer would be legal for bullseye, or at least not for national match, Camp Perry type competitions. I think those competitions require the original spur type hammer & standard safeties like are on the Gold Cup. If you are interested in action shooting, or just putting a lot of lead downrange, the Range Officer is going to be a lot more comfortable to shoot though!

  • Different things there, but the Colt is better finished, higher quality, and made in the USA. However, the Range Officer is still a good weapon.

    jeff

  • Good looking Colt nice finish and looks classic

I dont think you can compare this with the SR1911 or the R1 1911 like the comment below

the R1 1911 finish is not at the same level as colt

  • @revistadearmas i dunno the blueing job looks kinda crappy to me, maybe just the finger prints?

  • what do these list for jeff?

  • Looks like a great finish job,the flats show up nice on camera. How is slide and bushing to barrel fit, compared to the SR-1911 or the R1-1911? Another good video, short and to the point.

    Thank You

    Joe S.

  • Very tight.

    jeff

  • It's sad that they don't make them in the Series 70 configuration any more.
