I bought a Gold cup a couple of years ago (different hammer and beaver grip safety)
and was blown away at the performance at the range. Didn't have to touch the sights or anything and shot better than I ever have by far with any pistol I've ever had. Got me some wooden double diamond grips coming in the mail. Permanent home in the safe-never trade/sell this one.
Thanks Jeff, awesome review as usual. Now I know what my next 1911 purchase is going to be. BTW, is the barrel bushing tight enough to require the bushing wrench? I noticed in your web article photos Colt ships a bushing wrench with that one. Their standard fit 1911s don't come with a wrench.
I would be curious to try a grip like this one. My Range Officer is smooth, and the rubber grip would be fun to try. I might have to go to the gun shop to see about checking these out . . .
Sweet pistol! The only thing I would've liked to have seen is a relief cut under the trigger guard to allow a slightly higher grip. Every little bit helps!
The round count depends upon the weapon. I have to run enough to know how well it will function with a variety of ammunition, and then more to test velocity, and more to test for accuracy. I sometimes have a gun for months before getting the review posted, but I have received a gun and had the review posted in a few hours, when we were up against a deadline.
That thing is cool! Takes almost all of the "human factor" out of the test to give consistent results and accuracy so no one can claim you favored one ammo over another for personal reasons.
@batkins852 I'm not a Bullseye shooter, so I could be wrong here, but I don't think that the Range Officer would be legal for bullseye, or at least not for national match, Camp Perry type competitions. I think those competitions require the original spur type hammer & standard safeties like are on the Gold Cup. If you are interested in action shooting, or just putting a lot of lead downrange, the Range Officer is going to be a lot more comfortable to shoot though!
Looks like a great finish job,the flats show up nice on camera. How is slide and bushing to barrel fit, compared to the SR-1911 or the R1-1911? Another good video, short and to the point.

They say Jeff has strangled men to death with his beard for just looking him in the eye.

There is absolutely no proof of that. I was never convicted of any of those charges.

I could turn it without the wrench, but it was pretty tight, so I used the wrench.

Very nice. I don't own a colt yet. So maybe
Jeff how many rounds do you put through a weapon when you review it
And how long do you usually have it for

if it weren't for the gaudy roll markings, I'd say this would be my next big buy :(

i'm lovin the look of this pistol. Beautiful.
One question i have though is how would this compare to the Springfield "Range oficer"? It may not compare to it, but just a thought that popped up.

Different things there, but the Colt is better finished, higher quality, and made in the USA. However, the Range Officer is still a good weapon.

Good looking Colt nice finish and looks classic
I dont think you can compare this with the SR1911 or the R1 1911 like the comment below
the R1 1911 finish is not at the same level as colt
