  • you have to pull the fuse box to get the passenger side UCA out. just sayin.

  • great video!

  • What brand of upper control arm did you use? I just bought a dorman from both sides from rockauto as well two kyb complete struts. Any thoughts on dorman?

  • @shinghidd genuine honda parts. i pretty much always use genuine parts for quality and reliability. never heard of dorman, sorry.

  • Hmmm...well that makes sense. How about taking off that A arm? Since I don't have a camber kit can I just unbolt the ones on the tower instead of loosening it on the inside? Great vids btw.

  • Is there a way to pop off just the ball joint?

  • @SpoonPrelude for this car its welded to the a-arm, so no. i wouldve done that if i could

  • good job, great video!

  • Good video bro, I need to do this work to my 91civic

  • Thanks a lot! that saved me some money and learned to take care of my Civic 96

  • @mainyu exactly he didnt show how to remove ball joint, that was the reason i looked at vid for, does it have to be pressed out by a shop or can i get it out myself

  • Dude u actually forgot to show us how to remove the BALL JOINT. That's the main reason i watched this video

  • @mianyu1 the a arm and ball joint are 1 piece. you can remove just the ball joint on this car.

  • @nukem384 actually i happen to have a 1996 honda civic and i'm planning to change my ball joint myself for the first time. therefore, I wanted a fully detailed video on replacing it.

don't get me wrong, ur video was ok help full an all that but as I mentioned above.

  • @nukem384 its not built like this on a 92 prelude is it ?

  • @mianyu1 I just removed mine, bit of a PITA. FYI You have to pull the control arm off if you're using the same kind of large "C-clamp" type remover/installer that I borrowed from Autozone.

  • saved me a bunch of time on repairs, thanks man!

  • what the hell? where's the actual ball joint replacement part?

  • @RoberTastic on this car, the upper a-arm and ball joint are one piece, so you have to replace the whole thing.

  • @nukem384 Thats kind of weird when you mentioned arm and bjoint 1 piece; I got the front wheel ball joint for accord 2000, doesnt include arm... now i had a terribly hard time trying to remove it from the arm; it wont move even the slightest bit!

  • @irwle 2000 accord is not the same generation as my car, so im sure they changed it by then. they are pressed in, difficult to get out without power tools

  • @nukem384 Not exactly true . . . I just removed mine, I used a ball joint remover/installer tool that I rented for free from autozone ($100 deposit). Ended up just replacing the whole control arm anyways though lol.

  • @300and2CI Any reason why you had to replace the whole arm? Autozone is charging $119.99 for the whole arm versus 19.99 for just the joint. I would love to save myself $100 if I could just replace the joint. =)

  • buen video gracias por los consejos

  • thanks for posting this!!

  • Notes 0:16

  • what size tools where the open ended wrench?

  • @YoungGangstasEnt i believe 14mm

  • thanks man! *LIKE*

Was wondering if you can help me out. I got some UCA's w/ ball joint from ebay (need to replace my ball joints on my 92 civic - same basic design). Anyways, aren't you supposed to fill the boot/joint up with grease? I'm about to attempt to replace mine this weekend but need to know if people are using grease in theirs or not...

    THANKS!

  • @krzfly they should be filled with grease already shouldnt they? if not, def yes fill them with grease or the joints will break super quick

  • @nukem384 Quick reply!!! *LIKE* again

Ummm, they apparently aren't filled with grease. Should they be completely sealed or no? I always thought all ball-joints were sealed units?

Hard to explain without seeing a picture. But with the ones i got, the tapered end of the boot (the side that will touch the steering arm) is open around the bolt. I assume that I will just pack it with grease and once it's all tightened up, it will all seal up (since that end will be bolted to the steering arm).

  • @krzfly hmm there shouldnt be any holes or openings in them. they do need to keep the grease in there. yeah you can actually buy just new boots if the joint is still ok but the boot is ripped. im not so sure about those ebay UCA tho, sound a little shady to me. give it a try and see if the grease leaks out? my guess is it will tho.

  • @nukem384 SHIT... i just noticed that there is no more video reply options :(

anyways, I uploaded a video of the ebay unit i was talking about. come to my channel and look at what i'm referring to. THANKS MAN!

  • @krzfly oh i c. that looks pretty similar to mine, but def put grease in there or the joint is going to break really quick. id just monitor after and make sure grease isnt leaking out everywhere. if it holds the grease in there, you should be fine

  • @nukem384 yea thanks man. i just repaired it today. i shoved grease in there. i didn't get enough to fill it though. but i think it should be fine. the grease is just used to keep the dirt out and off of the ball joint clevis. thanks again for the video tutorial. it help me somewhat. but for the civic, you have to unbolt the top strut nuts to move it out of the way in order to the the upper control arm to go around and behind it.

  • when doing this should i replace the upper ball joints on both sides or just as needed?

  • @JBot307 id do both at the same time.

  • @nukem384 cool. and thx for the super quick response!

  • would you have to do an alignment after?

  • @lilman200388 ya you def. should to make sure everything is lined up

  • very detailed vid. helped a lot. thank you

  • thanks a lot for this tutorial!

  • are you using jackstands?

  • @Ricktards yes the car was on jacks

  • Thanks very nice video. Congratulations!!!

  • Does this include 93 acura integra?

  • @uncool89 yeah itd be pretty similar
