  • Had this happen to 98 gt and code was random multiple misfires. Turned out to be ignition control module after checking spark and switching coil pack positions to check for bad coil.

  • When it blinks like that you pull over and turn your shit off and then turn it back on after 5 mins

  • Once you hit over 100xxx miles on these the bearings in the superchargers where out that may be your problem

  • @WestHero2

The OBD-II system doesn't detect problems with the supercharger unit, or it's internals.

Anyway, you can hear it when the bearings go bye bye.

  • it means your engine is missing i raced mine while it was blinking and blew the engine. thankfully it ran long enough to get it home. i won the race btw :)

  • i got a high flow cat installed for $300

  • i have a 1998 GP GTP and almost all my lights are on. What do you think that could be??

  • @nigster15 ecm engine control mogul

  • have your intake manifold and gasket looked at asap or your going to lose an engine if thats the problem. its the number one issue with the 3800 series 2 engines.

  • damn mine is doing the exact same thing. need to service the transmission and some other stuff but that light just blinks when im going fast and my car is revving.

  • dude ...lol it looked like the light was bopin to the beat

  • I drive a 96 Corsica.

That damn Service Engine Soon light always seems to come on. I never know if I really have a problem or if it's just on because it wants to be.

It's only a matter of time before it starts to blink and then I'll really have a problem.

Recently, the transmission has been shot (car won't reverse). I thought this meant I could get rid of that piece-o-shit, but my Dad just wants to fix the transmission.

I hoped this meant end of the line for that car and time to get a new 1.

  • My Dad seemed interested in the CD player on it. I said he could have it but he said he'd only take it once the car dies.

I was actually thinking about smashing up all the windows and mirriors on my car, removing the CD player, dumping flammable liquids on my car and lighting a match.

I wouldn't do this for insurance money, not for sympathy, but just so that I have no choice but to get rid of the car.

I can't do that though, because people would consider it fraud and/or vandalsim

  • Wow, well I really hope you stopped driving that vehicle. Flashin SEL lights are the worst. A flashing SEL light means you have a code for something Catalyst damaging..

  • my low coolant light always stays on and my coolant is filled up gm has lack of quality i think i might buy a ford next time but i will refuse to buy foreign

  • it is an easy fix if you want the sensor is on the radiator directly below the radiator cap. A mechanic should fix it easily for less than 100.00 bucks. 15 min work if you have tools and minimal knowledge.

  • dont buy GM....simple enuff

  • when was the last tune up at the time of this video?

  • idk

  • oh, i see in the comment below mine that the problems been fixed. see, my service engine light came on the other day and i knew it was tune up time, but it was actually bad gas i got at a shell station. i still need a tune up though. lol

  • Thanks for the suggestion but the problem was fixed months ago

  • hook a scan tool up and see what the code is

  • when the ce light flashs it indicates a wiring short more then likly a bad plug and or wire

  • yea my car did that...when i needed a tune up.... i didnt finish it..and i started to pull one out... and 4 got to go back 2 it.... and my car ran like shit..and my light did the same thing.... so somthing is really wrong wit yo car dude....( thats what i like about the grandprixs... it flash when somthing is really wrong with the car

  • they always run like shit dude..they are pontiacs..what were u thinking? lol

  • wow this just happened to me and i got a new 3 " downpipe after this happened, soi thought it was the cat, but no, my car stutters at around 3500 RPMS and then goes on, so i thikn its time for new plugs n wires

  • i got an 04 gtp. got new dp with magnaflow cat, iridium plugs wizaired cai, and 180 tstat from zzp. my supercharger sounds like shit when i hit the gas hard and the supercharger/exhaust sound odd.

  • YES!!! It is fixed after a crank position sensor and new catalytic converter. Thanks for all the replies :)

  • Glad to hear that the problem fixed. After I read that u did a tune up and nothing I knew it was a Sensor.

  • @sicexhaust2 how much did that catalytic converter cost?

  • When the check engine light blinks it's because there is a serious malfunction and the car should not be driven. More than just a bad 02 sensor. I know you posted this months ago, hope you were able to get it fixed ;)

  • Misfire or putting the wrong oil in. I had my oil changed for the first time at a place in two years (used to do it myslef, but no warm garage) and they put 5w30 in.

  • misfire

  • You may have a bad thermostat. I just had my intake manifold replaced and the dealer did a free inspection. The guy told me that the check engine light was on because of the thermostat (which he estimated $150 to fix). I had just dropped $650 on it and its Christmas time so it will have to wait but you may want to check that thermostat.

  • misfire. had thouse problems with my gtp 98

  • misfire.. had thouse problems with my gtp 2

  • After researching on this issue for several hours i am almost convinced that its the catalytic converter clogged up. numerous auto forums say to remove the oxygen sensor to check for this is that safe? does anyone know of a place to get the cheapest price on a new catalytic converter?

  • yeah my fire bird 99 v6 does the same i changed the coils and ignition mod what else could it be i even took off my catalac converter cuz it was messed up

  • its a misfire.

  • "to much oil on my k&n filter causing the mass air flow sensor to go haywire" the service mans exact words... what? LMAO!

  • this happened to me. ask the mechanic to check the connecting rods. if you rev your grand prix in neutral there is a good chance that a connecting rod will bust. this happened to me and is costing me 4000 bucks to repair it. please take my advice. just trying to help other out with a kickass car that can throw many others to the ground.

  • Major engine misfire.......

  • Yup goin back there Monday morning for sure!

  • What the hell is catalyst damage?

  • That means the car is misfiring enough to cause catalyst damage.

  • Yep. Take it back to the dealer because they didnt fix the problem.
